Thanks for the teardown videos , they are very informative & interesting . I would love to see a teardown video on an early 60 hp Johnson / Evinrude powerhead 3cyl. I have a 1970 Johnson 60 hp & I would love to see how it ticks. Thanks

Great video, thanks. My 94 Evinrude starts and pee strong, but later overheat beeping and no discharging water from tail holes, where are thermostat located? appreciate your head ups.

right smack on the top of the cylinder head. my advice? but the factory service manual. cheap and worth every penny.

If it's the v4 it's at the bottom of the power head , between the cylinder s with the two hoses going to them.

What about sending the block to the machine shop? Can that be done or it's different from a cars engine block? Sorry for the question but I want to get involved in a project like that and I want to learn a little before making my move of getting a project 😅. Thanks for the video 👍

Wow that was one of your best ever Videos Brandon well done. It showed me the area on the block that I needed to see. My Johnson 140HP V4 1984 has the drive shaft unable to release from the block so I can drop the lower unit to replace the water pump. Wondered if I could some how get to the top of the drive shaft by raising the block to hit it with PB Blaster to free it up?
@BrandonsGarage6 жыл бұрын
Not really, Cant even pull the powerhead if the driveshaft if stuck in there.

What's the cause of this problem? I have a 1976 evinrude V4 140hp It was running rough I pulled out the spark plugs One on the bottom was wet I pulled out the head and it was a good bit of water mixed with the gas and oil But all 4 cylinder has 130 psi Well the one is getting water in has 150 I guess it because the mixed is on the cylinder wall It could be the exhaust gasket?

Got a 92 Johnson 90 with a weak #3 cylinder looking to get the power head rebuilt… are you in Wisconsin?
@jondavidmcnabb5 жыл бұрын
Could you not soak in Marvell’s Mystery Oil then bead hone the cylinders and do a rebuild?
@fishyhobby36974 жыл бұрын
Is there no chance to bore and sleeve it? Or is that not done or worth doing with these? I have a pair of these in 140hp, currently run good, just Curious of learning What options exist. Love Your videos, a detailed video rebuild of one of these would be awesome!
@BrandonsGarage4 жыл бұрын
Usually you can find a good powerhead for far less than the cost of a rebuild; so most of the time, I just replace it.

HI great videos I have a 1998 70 johnson with 90 psi on all 3 cyl and it runs fine but will not go over 5000 rpm, some say I should rebuild. I have taking the head off, no visible damage to pistons or walls. My question is when to rebuild before it's to late and might cause to much damage? Maybe a leak down test would help me?
@floridamansgarage86295 жыл бұрын
Benny Knotts try sea foam to improve your compression it really works you’ll extend the engines life and performance I had 70 in one cilinder 110 in the other and it restored both to 120 and also run your engine more rich to extend the life of it
@ct17624 жыл бұрын
DO NOT run that motor rich! 50:1 is plenty. running rich will cause it to build up carbon which will lead to a stuck or broken ring. also increased the possibility of detonation. your motor sounds healthy with all cyl dead on. never go by the actual psi number as all gages are different. why are you concerned with 5,000 rpm? was it revving higher before? what boat and prop are you running?

Hey, I noticed when you took off the lower intake, (crank cover) there was not a gasket or seal. I have a 1977 140 Johnson. It looks very similar. Currently taking it apart because the big main Allen bolts were lose figured it was sucking air.

They older ones may, i just did a 73 and it had as seal.

Hi, Brandon! I want to shut Down the VRO system, the OMC 115Hp engine. Is that possible? Thin tube in the block and carburetor what is it?
@ct17623 жыл бұрын
the dowl pins ALWAYS go out towards the carbs, and get tapped in from the opposite direction (towards heads) when re-installing the crank case. i'm suprised you didn't crack the crank case!

Sounds like something I would do though.

Brandon's Garage probably meant when you go to reassemble.. do you have a system of batching parts or any labelling? Given you actually know What you're doing probably not? I'd Špend more time labeling and baging stiff than actually disassembling.. LOL. Great videos!

hi! What should the compression be in the cylinders? omc 115 hp turbojet engine 1995
@BrandonsGarage6 жыл бұрын
Even within 10%ish of eachother is the general rule. It'll run fine on 90psi, and it'll run fine on 115psi. Ive seen low hour engines all over the place. I don't believe there is a 'should be' compression number.
