Thanks for posting this. I know nothing about mechanics and perfectly rebuilt my fuel pump with this video. Saved me about 200 dollars.

Thank you so much for this video! I have a question though. I have a '98 Foce 120 and was wonder what the part number was for the carb kit you used? I can't find the specific one for this motor. Did you get it from iBoats? If so do you remember if it is the $40 one or the cheaper one? Thank you!

I think the gaskets go to the outside not the inside of the pump. I could be wrong

What is the line that you unscrewed? I know the other two lines are in and out... What is the third with the elbow? I have the same pump n fuel flows freely out of that elbow into the engine and floods.. should It be a check valve?.. thank you

I just rebuilt mine and that 90 degree fitting/hose goes to the motor just above the pump on my 1991 merc 90hp and is a breather/ pressure valve of some sort. If gas is coming out of it then the diaphragms of your pump are probably bad. It’s worth re building for 20$ kit.

Look on boats.net search by make model and year and click fuel pump for a diagram.

I haven't seen Robin Hood in probably 30 years! Funny how you remember the Disney songs. Oh, and thanks for the fuel pump video. I'm going to try rebuilding the one on my 50HP Mercury soon.

I would use something besides the needlenose pliers to push the valve pins in because if you slip and crease the plastic it will be junk.
@davidavalos9179 Жыл бұрын
The check valve is the clear plastic disc. You are not supposed to install the old rubber disc at all. You should discard it and replace it with the new plastic check valve. The rebuild kit doesn't even include the rubber check valve.

Have Force 120 with fuel starvation problem. Perfect video for me. Was pondering whether to rebuild fuel pump myself. This showed exactly what to do. Am ordering Sierra kit. Great job!!

Thanks for sharing, I've just do it following your instrucctions. Perfect!

For the plastic and rubber check valves....I noticed that my pump only had the plastic full coverage check valves installed. I replaced the check valves as per your video with both the rubber and plastic but I'm not sure this is correct. I believe it's one or the other, based on usage of blended fuels vs straight non ethanol. I didn't see any other comments and it may work just fine. I'll follow up once everything is put back together.

Ok. Runs well with the stacked check valves. Idle is a bit high so on to the next problem!

I just did this rebuild last night on my 01 merc 90. I noticed the kit came with rubber and plastic check valve, but my pump only had the plastic in it. I replaced only using the plastic and left the rubber out. Is it absolutely necessary to have the rubber in there ALONG WITH the plastic, even if it only had the plastic in there from factory?
@davidavalos9179 Жыл бұрын
You are correct, Tyler. I just purchased a brand new Quicksilver rebuild kit. It only contains the clear plastic check valves, not the old style rubber check valves.

I purchased the very same rebuild kit for my 1996 Force 90HP outboard. ...and that was the start of my problems! To cut a long story short, after the rebuild, the pump only delivered fuel when the engine ran above idle. At idle, no fuel would pass thru to keep the motor running. I took it to a marine mechanic, who informed me that these rebuild kits are very problematic and the best solution is to spend a little extra and buy a complete new fuel pump. ...that's what I ended up doing!

There is a problem in some situations, most of the mercury fuel pumps have been discontinued. The one on my 1997 40 HP is discontinued and you have to rebuild it.

Hey, I’m having trouble with my fuel pressure on my 40hp 1998 Force. Long story short I rebuild my pump and change the bulb. The thing is that if I keep pushing the bulb works, but once I stop pushing the engine stops. Any suggestions??
