Thanks for the informative review. Giving your measurements is very useful and your experience in actual field use answers most of my questions. Hope to use this for multi purposes - rain jacket, outer shell with a mid weight puffy or fleece and stand alone light weight jacket.

Thank you for the positive feedback my friend! I think it will treat you very well in those uses. 🙌

I have a set 10 months old. I loved it. I hike hot. Its perfect for keeping the wind at bay while hiking without overheating. Unfortunately my set is only waterproof for 1 hour. I use the jacket often, I think I put the pants on three times. The water infiltration with similar. It's still nice and is one of my favorite windbreakers. But it is supposed to be rain gear.
@Engearment2 жыл бұрын
Oh dang! That is a bummer. I have not experienced that. Though 90% of my use is in snow. Which is not as wet as rain. Glad you appreciate the attributes of the jacket though 🙌

There are quiet Goretex jackets for sure. Even OR makes one...check out the Foray II. Paclite Goretex 50D and quiet.
@Engearment2 жыл бұрын
Good call! 🙌. Paclight is usually 2.5 layer and often quiet compared to 3 layer goretex. I should have made that more clear in the review.

My favorite part of this review was when you showed the noise next to your rode ii wireless. I study content creation at my local tech. I have that exact setup with the dead cat muffs. I wasnt sure what rain jacket would work because there all so crinkly. This seems like the one for me to grab just for the sake of video purposes go! And breathing freely when I'm in thailand
@Engearment3 жыл бұрын
Hey Mike! Glad you picked up on that. The Rode Wireless Go II has been super helpful for run and gun shooting, these videos and even presentations. I hope they treat you and your content creation very well too! Yep, there are a lot of noisy jackets out there. The OR Ascent Shell is also a very breathable rain jacket that might be of interest to you. Here is the video for that one.All the best to you :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqqveZmQqc6anKM

@@Engearment I think you'll want to get your hands on their new "Dryline Rain Jacket" and throw it up on your channel. This might even be a good jacket for a comparison video as well. They look similar. I myself am interested to find out the similarities and differences of the 2 garments. I just saw it today and there's not any info really yet for it not even if its self packing as this one is.

Thanks for the detailed review. The Motive's face fabric is 50D but it's polyester. How does it compare to nylon ripstop face fabric of Patagonia Torrentshell (50D) or even 20D nylon face fabric of OR Microgravity or other jackets you might have, for abrasion resistance and durability?
@Engearment2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Much appreciated. It’s much softer with a bit of stretch, compared to the Patagonia Torrentshell. Almost soft shell feeling. It’s been holding up well since this review. No wear spots or failures yet. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the review. What would be your preference between this and the Patagonia rainshadow for PNW rain over a down sweater hoody?
@Engearment3 жыл бұрын
Ohh man. That’s a good question. As I have not been to the PNW in almost 2 years, and certainly not with this shell, I could not say if it would hold up to your epic rain level. The rain shadow would definitely do so. But it does not breath as well as this one. Just my opinion. But I hope it helps! Let me know what you go with and his or works. It could help another person out. Thanks and take care!

Did you find this to be more, less, or equally breathable to the Helium Ascentshell? I dump a ton of heat on the way up, and the lack of pit zips is concerning.
@brandontom62303 жыл бұрын
Hey Sean. I think I’m between sizes on this and the microgravity. My usual size small fits well everywhere except for the hem. It’s a bit tight especially when bending forward even when opened all the way, even with just a base layer underneath. If this was the case for you would you size up? Medium is good around the hem but a bit big on the arms. Thanks!
@Engearment3 жыл бұрын
Hey Brandon! Thank you for reaching out and the good question. I am not familiar with the fit on the Microgravity, so I can not speak on sizing for that. I would hate to misinform you, or anyone else. Sorry!
@brandontom62303 жыл бұрын
@@Engearment no problem. I’ve tried both the motiv and microgravity. Both have a trim fit but the microgravity is a bit roomier in shoulders and chest. Both models were tight around the hip even with the draw cord let out all the way. Just curious how much a tight hem on a jacket like this influences your personal decision to size up or not. Thanks!
@Sku11Leader3 жыл бұрын
According to OR's sizing guide with a 33" waist you should be in a medium, but this is an XL. So I would say the "trim fit" is accurate.
@Engearment3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I find it to be an good, trim fit. I go with my largest measurement on gear. In this case, chest size.
@PrashantDwivedi1212 жыл бұрын
exactly I bought a medium with almost the same measurements and it's a trim fit for sure

I've never been split boarding so idk how it compares but could this be used for snowboarding too?
@Engearment3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jeremey! Splitboarding is just more effort and exercise on the way up the mountain. I suppose you could compare it to boot packing or hiking. But the jacket will work just as well on the ride down, no matter how you get to the top. Hope that helps!

Does this jacket keep the wind out too?
@Engearment3 жыл бұрын
Hey Tyrone! It does let a little wind in. Not much, as it does help with the great breathability of the jacket. Hope that helps!
