Very nice, Jon~! Really like the look of that. Seems odd to use Mahogany for a project like that, but like you said, a different species than what would go in furniture and go with what ya got~! lol
@JonPetersArtHomeАй бұрын
Thanks Andrew, yeah, it’s definitely a little different than the mahogany were used to. Good for a project like this, but I wouldn’t want to build a piece of furniture with it

Yeah buying bags of gravel vs bulk is about 3x the cost but unfortunately that’s the pain of smaller projects. Most landscape supply places won’t deliver less than 3 cu yds so it’s either buy bagged or get your truck bed trashed picking it up yourself.
@stingray427manАй бұрын
I remember picking up my 1st Truck bed full of white river rock, threw in a bed comforter to semi protect the bed and make it easy to clean up. Fckt up the math and the loader bottomed my suspension 😂.
@JonPetersArtHomeАй бұрын
I did think about having the stone delivered… But then there was a delivery charge and the shoveling to think about. But for sure, much cheaper to buy the stone in bulk 👍
@branchandfoundry560Ай бұрын
Cost savings on a couple projects this size would pay for a utility trailer.

Hey Jon, be interested to know how the cold showers are working for you in another video. Have you read “The Wim Hoff Method” ? Great outdoor shower, by the way!
@ifiwooddesignsАй бұрын
Interesting use of wax and then propane it into end grain. I would think the propane would melt off wax and open up the end grains. I’ve always used a slight layer of glue and sometimes a second coat to harden it up and close off all grain.
@JonPetersArtHomeАй бұрын
The propane torch helps to suck the wax deep into the wood pores.

The shower looks great ! Aside from melting the beeswax, does using a torch help seal the end grain at all ? Great video 🙂

True story: Here in LA, I have an outdoor shower under a tree, and when I my head was all soaped up and my eyes closed, I heard a thump next to me. I knew immediately it was a king snake that had dropped out of the tree. I don’t know if I have ever felt more vulnerable in my life. By the way, guys, if you are not building a shower that will be seen by the public, you could do this a lot cheaper with a $30 Waterpic showerhead, galvanized pipe from Home Depot, fake wood boards, and Pex. I did buy a hot-cold mixer online for maybe $40. I also installed a ball we shut off between the showerhead and the mixer, so I can leave the hot/cold mix the way I like it during any given shower. (And for a couple hundred bucks, you can buy a 2.5 gallon 110v water heater.) I probably spent $320. My neighbors, meantime, spent probably $1000 on solid plumbing, redwood enclosure, a copper showerhead, etc., and their’s only cold water. But yes, it looks better.
@JonPetersArtHomeАй бұрын
My son did something like that and it really works great. We have hot and cold water that we plumbed in about 23 years ago so the cost was only for the materials I needed for the platform.. crazy how expensive things are I can’t imagine building a deck right now.
