Keen to see the update at the end of the summer. No matter how much I read up on and experiment with finishes I still get nervous when making a decision. To me finishing to woodworking is like baking to cooking.

As any conscientious boat owner will attest, maintaining even dense woods like teak that are located outdoors is a constant challenge. Treatments that are intended to 'soak in' - like this product - vs. remain as a surface treatment (like varnish) inevitably require frequent retreatment. I've used a number of products of both types on sailboats' exterior wood over the years and, like boat owners everywhere, have yet to find a product that doesn't require a lot of labor. But thank you, Jon, for identifying the product.

Most beautiful outdoor wood table I have ever seen. Is it exposed to U.V, rain, bird do, salt air etc.? What happens if you set a beer on it? Does it leave water rings? The beauty of your finish is beyond impressive. I do a lot of exotic wood finishing on homes. However, I have never used the product you are demonstrating.

Beautiful table. I lived by a guy who had a huge wood deck. He would sand off the old "varnish" as he called it, every few years and reapply....It looked like hell to me, high gloss finish on a rear backyard deck, lots of work. I would think oiling the bottom would have been good before constructing. But the best thing to do is build a roof structure over it, but I understand why you don't. I would build a small roof or awning area over 50% of my outdoor patio space, and I can move the table out from under when I want to.

Question for you my friend. If I have already stained my wood with a penetrating stain, could I still add a top coat of lacquer or enamel or something? Would it hold?

My wife and I really like the glossy finish of the hard coat surfaces, but on our outdoor table they seem to fail after a year. I've sanded the finish of and reapplied it a couple times, even using different product. I'm wondering, with a polyurethane (or some similar glossy hard surface) can I apply a new coat over top every few months? Would that help prevent the failure of the surface?

Great video Jon. I love using Danish Oils for my Walnut wood projects. Im working on my first outdoor bench and would love to use the same Danish Oil (from Watco) on the Bench, but wonder if Applying something like a Poly or Teak on top would be the best to protect it....OR would using a Single product be better. Love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks! It’s only been a few weeks but the finish really looks great. What I like about it is reapplying to finish every few months is so easy. I find that film finishes like polyurethane and varnish is eventually fail. I’ll post an update at the end of the summer.

Two coats on the underside… I mentioned that in the original build project video. The drip edge at the bottom keeps most of the water from ever touching the bottom of the table
