The key is reducing the area of coverage from 360 degrees to something more manageable. The best tip that I've used is to wear your hat backwards. The doves will think that you're looking the other way.

I want to start dove hunting, but I have a question. I'm really into birdwatching and have noticed how similar kestrels and doves can look in flight. Is the light usually good enough to wear you can tell them apart?

Wade Slovick I have never had a problem seeing the difference because of the flight style. Kestrel do get erratic like startled doves but in normal flight the difference is apparent. Always if you have doubts don’t shoot. There are plenty more doves out there so letting a few pass isn’t a bad thing.

I would like to learn how it's dove hunting here on FL, limits and lands I hunt dove before but that was in Puerto Rico and there it's more easy because are not so many restrictions like here.

The way I hunt for them is to just hunt early morning in a cornfield and shoot them while they're flying by. Then when they stop flying I walk around the perimeter of the field and shoot them when they flush out of the corn. Most of the times the ones that I miss or didn't shoot at will land in a different area of the field, then I just walk around again and shoot those ones.

You never talked about what shells your shooting with. What shot size ect.

2 3/4 inch steel 7 shot since it is a nontoxic shot field. 2 3/4 inch 8 or 7.5 shot is what i use for lead shot

What size shot do you use? High brass or low brass?

Dove aren't hard to kill, so 2-3/4 7.5 or 8 shot target loads should be fine. No real reason for high brass on dove.

I've actually started trying my best to remember to wear ear plugs. Especially when I'm duck hunting. I'd like to get the electronic ear plugs that only cancel gun shots, but they're so expensive.
