Hi Mike. Hi Eva! Beautiful woodlands Mike. I miss the woodlands. My very first holly tree. Story: My late mom & her mom/ my grandmother had the fake plastic holly leaves. Beautiful spruce tree. ( We occasionally see them in Vermont's Christmas tree farms. We had a massive 5 foot white pine for 25 yrs. We lost the 15 inch white pine next to the 5 footer. Every now & then. A huge summer thunderstorms would break the huge white tree. I would dry it & use to my old truck tire fire pit. Smells wonderful. Fall: Oh! Yes! Even dry wooden under dead leaves! WEEEEE! CRASH! Sometimes. If thier some more snow to cushions your fall the better. I've slipped on snow buried trees too. Black bear: WOW! He was a good size. My ONLY black bear encountered was a baby black bear in a tree. At 300 yards away! Me & my youngest brother shouted in unison! MAMA BLACK BEAR! We both grab our dry firewood sled/ train & ran out of there. We NEVER went back until 3 weeks. Just myself returned & there was a deer's hind quarter on a tree branch! I quickly left that area. That was February/1982. There was no further evidence of bears in mid spring. I mostly finished cutting all the dead trees in that area. It was enough for April. April was rather cold that year. Our last frost date is May 31st. Good luck on your fire starter production. You don't want be " burnt out." By doing fire starter. 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😆😆😆😆😁😁😁😁 Sorry. I can be " devilish" too. 😈👿😁😁 Say Hi to Melissa, Melissa's dad, Hunter, Levi, Kate, Tyler, & Hannah. Everyone have a good Saturday the 14th. 🤣😂😆😁😈🤔🥰😊😉🥶❤️💜🧡💛💙💙💙💙🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻☀️ Flowers for the ladies: 💐💐💐💐

I,m 92 now and live in Florida ,but my fondest memories are hunting with my boys in Pennsylvania,I went from taking them hunting to they taking me hunting I lost one son to FTD when he was 67, the other is battling Parkinson’s but still hunts. I call him every day and we mostly talk about the years we hunted together, I haven’t been to Pa in about 5 Years but the last trip there he called in a nice mature Tom for me. Thank God for memories.

You can always do some smaller projects after everything else is done. When you take the side by side, the 4 wheeler, the 4020, a shed to park the in or under. A firewood shed. Haul your splitter down twice a year and make a bunch of firewood. I know it's all pine, but you'll have just a short stove pipe to brush out once annually. And the trees you select could be ones that widen your trails. You can make playsets for grandkids, rope swings, zip lines, and tree house. Maybe get a Starlink set up so Hunter will have music and TV. Whatever you do, just keep the cameras on. It was great to see Eva out w dad hunting. Good stuff! Thanks for sharing.👍🚜❤️🙏🇺🇲🇺🇲

Have a place in North Conway NH and see a couple of bears every year and I really enjoy when I do. Saw a bear run up the drive into the backyard. My dog was on the deck so I went back there to let her in the house. On my way I heard the neighbor's dog bark which sent the bear back thru my driveway. I went east between my parked vehicle and the house, about 6', and he came west thru the same gape. Neither stopped till we were about 50 feet from where we passed. We both stopped to look back. I was laughing and I think he was as well.

Hey Mike ...compadre...get checked for cataracts. I thought that I was seeing OK, but after the surgery, it was like smoke lined cellophane was removed. Really upped my deer spotting big time! Also improved my long-range vision edit to add...got my fire starter yesterday! Thanks!

MIKE, PLEASE, JUST ONCE......... When you have hot embers or coals, don't spread them around, rake them toward the front. Set your wood in, front on the coals and leave the door open a crack. ALL the draft comes from the door or your sliding draft plate....AT THE FRONT. Air from front to back and up the chimney, more complete burn! By doing this, you will have less coals and fire will kick off without wasting starter. Thank you! My dad and uncle taught me this when I was little, the same way their dad and grandfather showed them 100yrs ago!

US Navy took its toll on my eyesight and hearing. Was the last time I actually hunted. When was the last time you (the audience) should have been wearing hearing protection but didn't? I shot a big Doe last gun season on the down slope of a ravine. Preparing to go down and retrieve her (and field dress), I slung my .450 across my back and started down the hill. About 3 steps in, I stepped on a leaf covered and unseen by me flat rock about the size of a car hood. Just like you said it was oriented down hill and covered with wet leaves, instantly feet went out from under from under me and I went straight down on my back (and my rifle). I knew it was going to be bad, a quick examination of myself and my rifle proved me right. I was ok fortunately, I'm 62 now and don't heal like I used to, but the impact physically bent the eyepiece of my Vortex scope ever so slightly sideways. I was horrified and my mind instantly raced, this was first light of day 1 of a 7 day hunt and I had 2 tags left. We always plan ahead for different weather conditions and take several firearms for the different situations, so I had a .44 wheel gun as well as a Cantilevered 12 gauge along on the trip. After transporting Doe back to camp and getting razzed by my hunting buddies for being so graceful in the woods, we decided the best course of action would be to set up a makeshift target at lunch and check my zero. My rifle miraculously suffered no visible damage except for the slight tweak of the scope eyepiece, and to my relief still shot to point of aim (10 ring) at 100. The end result was I filled my other tags with that rifle that week, and although I know I need to replace the scope at some point, it shoots so nice I can't bring myself to do it. This might be an unintentional plug for Vortex, but I will be mounting another Vortex on that rifle one day. Glad you didn't suffer any damage in your slip/fall incident, sometimes we need to be reminded of things like gravity the hard way! It warms my heart to see you spend time doing things with and for your family, when I think of American family values, your family comes to mind. Cheers!

It's great that you can share memories with your daughter 😊 Where I live, bear really don't hibernate they just go inactive for periods of time. It could be days to weeks, but nothing really long term. They will tuck up under a blown down tree or under a clump of mountain laurel. It's different now compared to 40 years ago where winter lasted below freezing for months at a time and there was snow on the ground from late November thru March.

Great time to be in the woods! Noisy but fun to be out in nature. The distance you can see with leaves down as compared to full foliage makes it seam so different. Deer, bear, turkeys, birds and trees so interesting to live where you see and feel nature. I get out in January and February after fall hunting to start getting ready for maple syrup season. Folks complain about cabin fever and in February we start see trees wake up and sap run in between snow storms. Awesome Mike! We wish you and Melissa and family Merry Christmas and happy new year. Idea for Holiday video, or not. We’ve gotten to know you and family over the years, maybe if family is all over for Christmas, do a video in front of wood stove with all together. Levi, Hunter and all grands and parents with dogs! On second thought sounds too difficult to round em all up and video. Maybe thats the story in video just trying to heard the cats vs still shot! LOL

Way back in the day PA Fish and Game fenced of a 5 acre block of woodland . They put 5 or 6 bucks in it. After giving them time to acclimate the had two professional hunters attempt to find said deer. They didn’t find or bounce any deer. PA verified the deer were still in the fenced area.
