Good on you for giving your firewood clients their money's worth. I couldn't figure out several videos back when you referred to your face cord being 1/3 of a cord. Later in another video you mentioned you cut your pieces to a 16" length, so, indeed, your cords measure out to three face cords. Around here a cord is sold as two face cords, even if the pieces vary from 14" to 20", as they frequently do.

Newnan, GA, about 45 miles southwest of Atlanta. Firewood isn't as hot (pun intended) a commodity as it is up north, but we still enjoy a fire on those chilly winter evenings. I go through probably 1/3 - 1/2 cord per year. As we speak I'm waiting for my neighbor to pull my Kubota MX4700 out of the creek. Got a little too close after the hurricane drenching we took last week. Live and learn.....

Mike you should get a good towing trailer for the estate. You could easily tow a whole cord and use it for a lot more besides. If it was a low load trailer you could park the mower on it to save parking space maybe?

Looks like someone needs to be in the market for a trailer with sides and a 3 point hitch trailer ball mount. I have a 5x8 trailer with 3 foot high sides. Fits just about 1 full cord of wood and pull that with my kubota b2320 all around the area.
@OutdoorsWithTheMorgans7 жыл бұрын
Next purchase is a grapple for the tractor, then a trailer but Im thinking of getting a 6 x 10 or 6 x 12 dump trailer for the truck primarily. Use it to deliver firewood, haul some stone when I need it, and a bunch of other things
@kyleciolli11407 жыл бұрын
My dad and I had a 7x12 dump, traded it for a 6x10. the 12' was a bit much for his F150 loaded. It was 3k lbs empty. A 6x10 is probably small enough to drag around the woods with your tractor with maybe some gravel in the bucket for counterweight
@mikeshobbyhomestead89177 жыл бұрын
I like the idea of a dump trailer. I wonder if that would hold the b2320 kubota to bring places? They are kinda expensive though.

I've watched enough of your channel to know that you want to do things right and efficiently. Toward that end, you may wish to consider a transfer tank instead of the jugs. There are several advantages: always have fuel, buy when fuel prices are low, put alligator clips on to power the pump from the tractor battery, load and unload with forks using a pallet under the tank. If you get a 100 gallon and fill to 90% that's 630 lbs. of fuel plus perhaps 200 lbs. for the tank, pump, filter, hose, nozzle. The specs on the tractor and lift are 1131 lbs. Plenty of reserve. You can find used on Craiglist. I got aluminum. You will be glad. No more jugs. Just be certain that the front tires are aired up to specs. Best, Jerry in northwest Georgia.

Thats a great idea, the Kubota sips fuel but it would be nice to have 75 gallon on hand, I will start searching craigslist

Great Videos Mike, I bought a Ferris zero turn mower so far so good rides like a Cadillac, then I was gonna buy a tractor like yours and a neighbor turned me on to a sweet barn find: a 2008 Kubota M59 with only 88 hours on it and original orange paint still on buckets (loader and backhoe) also brand new pallet forks, hydraulic blade, trailer hitch and front grapple never used. Let's just say price so low I stole it. Thanks for the motivation

Thanks for the very helpful video on wood stacking and moisture content. I live in the Pacific Northwest and most of our firewood is Douglas fir, white fir and alder. Occasionally we have wild cherry. My question is stacking wood in an environment of winter rain. I tried stacking and covering with a tarp. This doesn't work well I suspect because the tarp holds in the moisture. I am going to try and single row stack like your video suggests. I would appreciate any thoughts you might have to help us. Thanks again. ...George

Hi Mike nice video Mike would you not buy another carry all for the front off your tractor
@tfhummer7 жыл бұрын
I watched your video on the carry all but I would make a suggestion to you that instead of a carry all buy a 3 point fork lift. You can always build a box for a carry all to sit on the forks however most forks are 42 to 48 inches long so I think your carry all box for the forks would be larger. Forks are rated at 3000 lbs plus, not the 1000 lbs the carry all is rated at so what you cannot lift with your smaller tractor you could lift using the 3 point hitch which usually lifts double of the front end loader. A fork lift attachment would probably allow you to lift items higher than your front end loader lifts now. I would also suggest upgrading your 3 point top link to a hydraulic link that way you can control the tilt of your carry all, or adjust any other implement on the fly while using it. I think they are only like $200 or so. Also were you just going slow so you didn't loose firewood, or was that high range in the Kubota? Just wondering because my tractor runs about 20 mph but its a slight bit bigger, thanks.

You are like my brother! When he lived in NE Oregon, well off the road, he used to hunt --- until one day. He got in his truck and drove about another 50 miles into the outback. Never mind that he already lived 45 miles from any grocery store. He pulled his trailer off the road, ate dinner, sat out under the bright stars. Early the next morning he got up and fixed himself a 3,000 calorie breakfast loaded up to track in the light snow. Normally he would use two or three .270 shells a year -- one to sight his rifle and one for each of the elk he shot. In any event he started out hiking, got about 200 yards from the trailer and there was a perfect 8 point elk. One shot, one kill, freezer full. End of hunting in the West! For him, the joy was in hunting not shooting.

Another great video Mike, I'm still trying to get my head around what a cord is in volume. Is it 24 cubic feet, which in Australia converts to 0.67 cubic meters? If we cannot weigh the stuff we sell it by the meter. Have I got this right?
@OutdoorsWithTheMorgans7 жыл бұрын
Its 128 Cubic feet of wood stacked tightly. So since mine is 16" long it takes a stack 4' high, 24' long. Make sense?

Thats a good question, all I ever cut was hardwoods
@loganthompson9717 жыл бұрын
TrailerPark Gaming - Softwoods will rot faster than hardwoods even if you stack the way he shows. The issue lies in moisture, as softwoods are moist they allow insects to easily create a home and eventually ruin the wood. Also the sap from most softwoods I have heard attract insects. Hardwoods are so dense they are practically impenetrable by insects for a very long time unless constant moisture is applied.

The ones who believe that the people who have worked hard to earn land and built up their ability to be prepared are the privileged 1%. When the government can't provide for them any longer, there will be unrest and if you have land, shelter, food, your most value able preparation will be the ability to protect yourself.
