I love how so much of outer wilds speedruns is using the game's mechanics over some exploits. There's only the vessel clip used here and i think it's awesome! Truly a game in a league of it's own.

I would classify scout boosting as an exploit, albeit one that's a natural consequence of the recall violating conservation of momentum.

​​@@nnelg8139it's something that they coded intentionally though. A dev had the idea "let's have the scout have some recoil when the hatchling is in the air". No one had the idea "let's let the hatchling clip through the vessel door if they're flying backwards fast enough during the warp to the eye", at least I doubt they did. I think what the original commenter is saying is that it's cool the game doesn't need to be 'broken' very much at all to find new speedrunning tactics

I'm always surprised that you can beat the game without ever going to Giant's Deep. You'd think the devs would want to randomize the coordinates for each playthrough or something so that you always have to go to the probe tracking module Is there a category that's just Any% but requires you to go find the coordinates?

I think it'd take too long because you have to go to giant's deep, get to the core, then get out and go all the way to ash twin project for the warp core, then all the way back to the vessel. It might be theoretically feasible but most people wouldn't be able to do it.

​@@galaxalord7399i honestly feel like this was intended initially, but then the devs thought better of making you reach the core everytime and just made the coords the same. with how much time you have before ash twin becomes accessible, i feel like you were initially intended to do *something* before reaching it.

The game still runs all the physics in the solar system while you sleep, so how fast time goes is limited by your computer. Because they don’t want to give people unfair advantages based on their computer specs speedrunners don’t count that time
