I read on the Outlast wiki that you can see the differences in the personalities of Miles and Waylon by the way they close doors. Miles slams doors shut in panic/anger but Waylon shuts doors gently even though he's being chased. I came back to watch Mark's let's play again to see if it was true. It seems to be true, Waylon is much quieter in closing doors and when sneaking/running.

Which makes sense based on their personalities and their different perspectives and knowledge of the asylum... Waylon would naturally know more about needing to be sneaky and calm, he's been there and knows more about the Asylum and other patients, whereas Miles is an outsider and is more prone to panic. It's a really cool detail and gives more to the characters!!^^ (Btw I know this is old but I'm just revisiting so hi 2022 here 🥰😂)

This and Outlast are the scariest and most disturbing games I have ever seen. The only other horror games I played were Resident Evil. This totally puts Resident Evil to shame 1,000 times over but at the same time, they're two very different stories. I was always afraid of mental hospitals. They're some creepy places.

Yes, and Outlast is super tense (my back and shoulders hurt while playing it), unlike Resident Evil, but I still love both games. And I, too, am afraid of mental hospitals. Like, you never know what could've happened there, and the people are crazy! And a mental hospital like this one on Outlast? Even more terrifying with people's faces being all sewn up and people ripping flesh off of themselves (Chris Walker ). It's just plain terrifying!

I agree. This DLC felt more terrifying than the actual game. Don't get me wrong, I love Outlast, but this just has a whole new sense of horror to it. I think it's mostly showing how the patients were driven mad by the Engine, how the higher ups of this facility are sadistic, perverted bastards, and other things like cannibalism, mutilations, sewing breasts on dead bodies and that one dick cutting scene.

As for "child reptile sexual imagery" or whatever the hell it was, I have a very loose theory. Since there's no context aside from it relating to psychology, my guess it's something to do with a combination of two schools of thought regarding psychological development, the Freudian stages and the "stacked brain" (I forget the proper name). Basically the idea is that there are "layers" of human psychological processing, the top being the primate brain (higher reasoning, logic, etc), then the mammal brain (the midway) and on the bottom is the reptilian brain, which encompasses all the base instincts (sex, fighting, etc). As for Freud, his whole shtick revolved around the psychosexual stages of human development occurring during childhood, because he was probably even more fucked up than the majority of his patients (and did a lot of cocaine, as well). So if you mash the two theories together and shove it into the context of a "morphogenic engine" turning people batshit insane, that might be what the writers were referencing there.

Areej Malik You're welcome! There's lots of stuff like that in this story, particularly if you read through all of the files. The writers definitely did their research and probably had a psychologist (or two or three) consulting, and I commend them for that. They didn't just go with the "scary crazies" ideal that Hollywood is hot for, they first took the time to understand the psychological impairments and factors that cause them that land people in such institutions, and *then* added the batshit crazy of the morphogenic engine. And that's why the characters are so damn scary, because there's a sense of realism to them that you don't get with stock "scary crazies" we're used to in most entertainment. Very much looking forward to the sequel! :)

There's a lot to remember and things change constantly. There are a lot of things that I don't know and I've been working at Game Stop for over two years. Like this week we are running a promotion where you get a free 3-month xbox live card with a purchase of a new xbox one. Also a twelve month is only $40.00 with the system purchase. So you could get 15 months for only $40 extra!! My assistant manager didn't even know about the free 3-month until a customer asked about it and he had to search for it on our web-site. It could also have been this person was just hired a few months ago. But I could be wrong.....Not to certain about the whole group of teenagers and what-not..... Just buy some xbox currency to get the game. it works the same as a code and you can use the extra for something else down the road.

Although I can't see how "arterial spin labeling" could selectively go offline, arterial spin labeling methods actually WOULD be capable of real-time perfusion monitoring. Outlast is truly a terrifying game. I don't dare to even play it. It's fucking scary enough watching people play it. I have to mentally prepare myself to watch it, I tried to watch it once, but had to stop because it was seriously too much for me, I tried again and got all the way through. Now I'm on my second try for the whistleblower dlc, hopefully I make it. I'm so excited for outlast 2 and I hope mark plays the demo

Back watching the whole Outlast run after watching Outlast 2, and it's amazing to see how much Mark changed in 8 months between Outlast 1 and the DLC. In Outlast 1 he was babyplier, and that earlier KZbinr still just figuring out how things work. Here, he's already advanced so much and become more like the Mark we know and love today. It's really crazy to see.
