No disrespect to these guys, but the video doesn’t do it justice. The mountains are so steep and high, the scale gets lost. When you’re there, the mountain peaks feel like they’re leaning over your head. And while seeing Milford Sound in the sun is lovely, when it rains, waterfalls spontaneously appear, and if it’s heavy enough, half the mountainsides will be spouting water. There’s so much fresh water, that there is a layer of it floating above the salty seawater. That, and the tannins from the trees, make the waters of Milford Sound so dark. There’s even cold water black corals that grow in those waters

I'm so glad you took the advice of the majority of your Australian subscribers in visiting New Zealand with it's spectacular scenery and the friendliness of it's people After you guys having spent over 5 months exploring Australia it would be a criminal offence not visiting New Zealand, as you can see both Countries are so beautiful but vastly different in scenery Massive hats off for those subscribers who paid for those Milford Sound tickets for you. How good was that👍 Please don't get offended if you get more offerings from us Aussies and Kiwis in paying for other excursions, trips or whatever other offerings they may give you, It's just built in our culture , it's the real deal with us and proud of it We just want people like yourself to have lifetime great memories of our Countries down under

I spent 32 years in NZ, been on every major road, loved the lifestyle and the people. Wherever you go whatever you do it will be money & time well spent. Will be back in the NI in February then off to the US - Appalachian Trail. mid march. Don't forget to go back to Aus and finish WA (wild flower season is special)😂

Sometimes there's a reason something's a tourist attraction - there's nothing else like Milford Sound - been about 5 times, but it blows me away every time ❤ Interesting reason the water is so dark - it's because the fresh water sits on the top of the salt water and blocks out the light - it makes it a great place to research deep-sea life, because it mimics a much, much deeper environment because of the lack of light getting through! 😊

Some years ago we visited NZ with our boys in September. We were blessed with snow with the road from Te Anau looking like a Christmas scene as we drove. When we went through the tunnel it was like we were in another land. Blue skies and not a trace of the storm on the other side of the mountain. It was incredible.

A couple of my tour guide comments. 🤓 The road up to the Homer tunnel (Alt 3000’) and down to Milford are in the remnants of glaciers! Milford ‘Sound’ (technically a fjord) having been carved out by same. About half way between TeAnau and the Homer tunnel is an innocuous road sign stating 45deg South. At that latitude you are exactly half way between the Equator and The South Pole. 😳 Queenstown is on the same latitude. And finally, you passed within 10min of my home as you passed through Mossburn. 👍 Welcome to ‘The Deep South’.❤️💕

I enjoyed that guys, especially the enthusiasm for just about everything! I was on a cruise on the SS Oriana in 1962/63. Our first port of call was Hobart (on Christmas Eve, so it's almost exactly 61 years ago!). As the ship left Hobart there was an announcement that "if the weather allows" the ship (a 40,000 ton liner!) would steam into Milford Sound. I was all keyed up about it, because my dad had been a seafaring man and had actually been in the sound on one of the ships he worked on. Of course, there was a 70 mph gale blowing, so the Oriana just kept going up the west coast.......

You're lucky to see Milford Sound in the sun - Fiordland has 200 rain days a year! (I've been to Milford four times in my life and it's always been cloudy or rainy.🙁) Those mountains just go straight down into the sound, another 1000 ft to the bottom, actually deeper than the Tasman Sea at the entrance. At one point we didn't just go past a waterfall, but right underneath it.

Dear couples this series of videos is such a welcome reminder of the trip my wife and I made touring the south island a month ago!. We had 2 weeks of straight blue skies weather and we did stay over in Te Anau to be early for going to the Milford sound. Just before the tunnel going to the fjord we stopped aside the road to take some pictures of the snow capped mountains and 2 big deep green Kea's flew towards us and landed on the roofrack of our car. They were not shy at all! And when we had to slow down before the tunnel we saw another 3 of these birds. The only other time we met these birds was when we travelled Athur's Pass and we stopped for a pee 🙂 Did you see any of them? And did you enjoy the tui birds making their distinctive noises ? New Zealand is easily one of the most beautiful countries we visited and my counter is on 45 countries spread around the world. I noticed you lot are now in Europe? Will you head for Belgium? If so you are welcome for a round of sweet and savory snacks in ANtwerp (my home town) I invite you! Have fun , Hans the Dutchbelg 🙂

So, you can tick Milford off your bucket list. I want to GO Back! We did it in winter. We had to wait 2 days for them to clear an avalanche at the west entrance of the tunnel. I was surprised to see how flat it is in this area. We had a10 meter deep trench to drive though then got to the tunnel. No our boat trip we got snowed on the whole time. Our boat actually stuck its stern under the big waterfall at the end of the trip. We walk out on deck and got hammered by the falling water. Antarctica and Milford (and NZ) are my two most loved travel experiences of my life. Thankyou for taking back to Milford... 🙂

Milford Sound is the crowning glory after walking the 53+km (33 miles) of the Milford Track and Sutherland Falls side track. The track is four days of that magnificent scenery. All the better if it rains, and it generally does, because the ad hoc waterfalls along the valley sides are worth the journey all on their own.

Seriously, NZ is the most beautiful place. You do make any country you visit look fabulous. But, N.Z. would be hard to make unattractive. Loving this adventure very much. Try not to get to many tickets. Stay safe.

Does Moki work with deaf people ? I see she signed "good morning" at the beginning of the video .

Very perceptive of you! Moki is deaf herself. She has a cochlear implant, which helps her hear.

I'm glad the implant works so well , i would not have guessed any hearing impairment from watching you guys 🙂You've shot some terrific scenery in this one , I think you're all fairly impressed with NZ . Fun fact , South Island NZ and Tasmania have about the same population density . @@OnePackWanderers

@@OnePackWanderers the early, single channel cochlear implant was first developed in the 1950s, with limited practical success. Although parallel work was being done in Austria, an Australian, Professor Graeme Clark, is considered to be the inventor of the modern multi channel cochlear implant.

Wow, I guess the drive was worth it? We were in Queenstown and chose not to do that drive just for the scenery. We looked at pics on Google. 😂 Looks just like Fjords in Norway and Alaska. We are jaded.

Beautiful video 😍 I have a question to you guys, what month did you go there, it looks like full blown spring, also did you book the cruise ahead and one more how long did it take to drive from Te Anau to Milford Sound? We have booked a trip to South Island for October next year and need as much info from young travellers like you. We are in our 70s and after closed borders we lost the confidence of travelling.

Hey there! We filmed this video a little over a week ago. So that's early December. The drive from Te Anau to Milford is about two hours if you don't stop. Have fun in NZ, and if you have any more questions we're happy to answer. It is absolutely stunning.
