Comes down to what car you need.. and how much you road trip. I do take extensive road trips.. but only once a year or less. There are better cars built for my personal needs than Tesla currently offers.. that suit my needs 99.9% of the time. I need a smaller but practical city car with decent range. Chevy Bolt EV or EUV would be perfect for me as far as the car goes. So you have to choose.. perfect car.. with crappy road trip experience. Or les perfect car, but perfect road trip experience.

The section of I-15 y'all were on has interesting geology. To the east of I-15 is the Colorado Plateau. Rock formations in the mountains have an orderly horizontal layering. To the west of I-15 is the Great Basin where the same rock layers look like they were put in a blender. The Great Basin is divided into a northern section, the Nevada Basin, and a southern piece, the Mojave Desert. All three geologic areas converge around St. George, one of your popular charging spots. You can see elements of all three regions in St. George.

If people want to go electric, then Tesla is the only game in town right now, they clearly got this all figured out. Ironically Tesla will also very likely be the one that solves this problem for the other two cars, as in a couple years or so those cars will probably have adapters to plug into a decent subset of Tesla's Supercharger network, which is the industry standard for dependability as we've seen here.

It’s too bad that Green River Supercharger is a V2 site, which means it will not be of any help after the adapters and non-Telsa NACS cars are available. Hopefully Tesla will either upgrade the site or at least decide to add PLC modems to the V2 stations in rural/remote areas so that this craziness doesn’t go on for years to come. Maybe EVGo or the new consortium can step up and build out an actual national network of chargers to add competition to the charging situation

Pretty spot on with how the charging experiences go with non-Tesla EV's. Even with Tesla though (like the one he stopped at in St. George), can be a risk if you don't know like the local secrets of what chargers are faster, etc... Almost every Electrify America we've stopped at there has always been a charging station down or not working. Really frustrating especially if you're low on battery and need to be somewhere. Always plan ahead and leave room for missed charging stations. Great real, raw video! This is what you will experience owning an EV and traveling long distances. Around town, such a breeze. Not the case when you're going on road trips.

Like, from Rome to North Cape via the Supercarger in Hell, Norway. 😁 That's a 59h drive (5,132km / 3,189 mi) according to Google Maps, if you avoid ferries. Fun fact; in Norway and Sweden, you have about 4x as many fast charging options with any CCS car, than if you were to rely on Tesla Superchargers only. These road trip videos really affirm my decision to buy a Model Y over anything else. It's like there's two parallel realities right now for Tesla vs. Non-Tesla owners.

So true. If you roadtrip your EV there’s no other option right now.

Kyle i feel like you should personally install some chargepoint CCS chargers in this town. you'd probably make bank competing with useless EA here haha

@OutofSpecMotoring there is no sound for some reason. Did one of the editors have an issue in audio or what?

Extra hour or so once or twice a year isn’t so bad, especially considering the NACS conversion coming soon so it’ll only be a problem for another year or two.

Ok, time to change this up, Ioniq 6 Rear wheel drive long range with 18" Fastwheel EV01+ wheel will be the road king on your next race to Vegas! Comfortable, quiet, and likely very efficient with its great charging, mind you CCS is still the wildcard. By the way my Ionq 5, 20" Fastwheels EV01+ with my Micheline Cross climate 20" 245/45 (my fall and winter tires) fit with a set of WHEEL CONNECT Hub Centric Rings, 67.1 to 64.1 on to my Model Y!!!

You guys should do it with a Mercedes EQS Sedan 450+ in this type of race. It also has a big battery and it’s efficient too.

You should give the times of the three cars to Las Vegas with charging times & driving only … subtract any waiting times to charge, and show us those results… if driving at night, you might not have had any wait times

Those EA chargers in Green River never worked for me. I’ve tried using it a few times just to test out the CCS adapter and ended having to go up the road for the Super Charger.
