Do you ever pan the material that you dig out to see if there is small pieces of gold in it. how small a nugget of gold can your detector detect thanks
@USMiner8 жыл бұрын
I used to test pan nugget patches more, but often there just wasn't much else there. I still keep ziplocks in my pack to put dirt in if I think a place looks in need of test panning though, and if it looks good I'll bring the drywasher in later, but it's rare. The detector in this video can detect pickers down to about 1/10th of a gram, though shallow. I have another detector that will find smaller.

Question; Anytime I see someone find and dig a nugget on camera I always wonder how did you know when to turn the camera on? How did you know you were going to find gold right in that spot? In order for this to be real you would have to keep the camera on the whole time you're out detecting, and then edit out the hundreds and hundreds of hours of detecting when you don't find anything????
@USMiner7 жыл бұрын
Answered this in the other thread. Short answer is the camera isn't always on, there are times when you can be more confident it's a nugget due to particular conditions or familiar areas, and sometimes you just have to brute force it and deal with hundreds of hours of video with nothing but trash. I think it's easy for people to see videos like these and underestimate how much time it truly takes to make the finds and then put the videos together. Which is also why I couldn't come out with a new video every week, you have no control over what you find or when it happens, and KZbin unfortunately punishes content creators for that.

@USMiner8 жыл бұрын
It's a few different places but all were chosen from geologic observations both on maps, aerials, and in the field.
@scottjarvis64288 жыл бұрын
Okay Thank you. So I am learning that the key to successful Prospecting IS learning...using maps, USGS reports and the like. Cool. I appreciate the answer and Great vids!
@USMiner8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, always keep learning, even non-gold related stuff can end up being useful if you always read about geology and connect what you read to what you see in the field. That and become as proficient as possible with the detector you use, know how it speaks under all possible conditions you encounter before you encounter them so you are never left wondering if you missed something, the confidence that you build will increase your detecting success.

@minerken45038 жыл бұрын
Ride on i do not blame you. I watched some of your more informative videos and learned alot quick thank. I know of some spots that need looked at i noticed that many of the nuggets you dig out are very root bound. And almost in the center of small sediment build ups witch are obviously thousands of years eroded and built up but after watching you do this i have some spots that need looked at. My only problem i have a garrett at gold and have not had very much luck with it always find trash or hot rocks not in a gold area. How ever i just picked up a gold claim here in gilpn county colorado i would be more than happy to have you up if your interestd or ever in the area.

+Ken Kissell Yeah Colorado is a hard place to nugget hunt - I haven't done it much but I've never got a nugget with a metal detector in CO, I plan on it someday. I have a claim on the Arkansas River by Buena Vista for dredging but it runs real fast and high most of the time.

Great information and videos. Have you had any success in areas where the ore/Mineralization consists of sulfides? Once again thanks for the videos. Always grateful for people who are willing to share their knowledge and experience.
@USMiner7 жыл бұрын
Yes I have found some nice nuggets in areas with a lot of sulfide mineralization. The exception is when the gold is fine and only mineralized throughout the sulfides themselves. Nuggets can and do form with sulfides though, often with enough time they will turn into oxides but you will see the casts of their crystals still. Limonite after pyrite pseudomorphs, etc.
