The book is also "Period correct" when sitting on a Preserved Railway platform or on preserved passenger coaches. And you can thank books for coach lighting...

There were some excellent layouts this year. I particularly liked the Old Elm Park layout with its view inside the steam roundhouse shed. The train fun continued after the show as we went to watch Clun Castle doing its Polar Express runs with a heritage diesel assisting on the mainline by my house.

Cheers for the glowing review of Brian Street, still very much a work in progress, the helix were a necessity for our clubroom, all built from scratch by a couple of us over several club nights and is pretty unique for a exhibition layout

It was great to see on all the ultra-realistic setups, with tri-ang and early hornby railways designs! A bit of weathering and they blend in fine. Just proves that they aren't quite toys and that the new options, that you mention shall burn any pocket, aren't always necessary to make a superb layout come to life. Hopefully see you at the middy over the next week or two Best wishes Will

Wonderful thank you for filming this Laurie so much inspiration. I have never managed to complete an entire layout, they just have so much going on in them, I might just build a micro layout just to say I have completed one. The trouble is I have started a 16mm scale garden railway and that is epic, but the problem I have with that is it is either too hot, too cold or too wet at the weekends!

Interesting that you had an early fascination with the Tay Bridge disaster. The very first text that I could read by myself was the page devoted to it in the Ladybird book The Story of the Railways. With particular emphasis on the last sentence "There were no survivors".

I have some of the ladybird books I was given to me by my Uncle. One is actually on how the railways are run (in BR blue era) and a general one about the locomotives inner workings. I love them for the beautiful painted pictures in them.
