I have the relationship issue. We went vegan 3.5 years ago, and I did connect with the ethical reason (started about health) but my husband never watched/read anything so never resonated. He only lasted a year, then went back to SAD and harder core than before. He enjoys restaurants, eats a lot of junk food at home and still enjoys his beer and wine, whereas I also don’t really drink at all anymore. I think I had a glass of wind a year ago! So we are different now, like Abby was mentioning. I changed. It’s hard ‘cause I love my husband, and need to remind myself it’s his choice. Trying to make it work can be challenging when one person makes such a big life change. ❤

I totally get it. I also have a friend in a similar boat but she is working through it and struggles at times. Sending hugs to you ❤️.

That sounds really challenging, particularly when we change our core values. I know it's hard, but perhaps having a very open conversation about it might help you both understand each other - perhaps with someone to mediate if that's helpful. But I think not talking about it will be worse in the long run.

@@pbwithjeremy we’ve had many. He says he’s not changing for anyone and if I try to force it there would be issues 🤷🏻‍♀️ so it’s an accept each other for who they are or bust 😅😬 he hasn’t gone so far as to cook any animal products. But he’ll buy takeout (not plant based or at all healthy) and bring it home…constantly, like almost daily.

@@suemichaelsen8486thanks. He doesn’t want to watch any documentaries, just doesn’t want to hear it. Almost like a stubborn child that does the complete opposite if you try to get them to do something 😂🙄 I tried to the point of me ending up in tears. It’s just not worth fighting over.

Thank you for sharing your story. I lost my grandmother, father, and younger brother to heart disease. My mother and two of my sisters have high cholesterol, and I also have high cholesterol. My primary care physician suggested I visit a cardiologist due to family history. The first thing the cardiologist said was that he wanted to put me on statins. I asked about side effects, and he told me they were blown out of proportion and he had been on statin himself for 30 years. I asked about diet and exercise, and he told me they make no difference. I have chosen to try diet and exercise until my yearly check-up. If my cholesterol is on its way down, I will continue the diet and exercise. I have been vegan since 2015 but also did not always eat very healthy. I am now WFPB. One of my favorite salad dressings is sauerkraut and oil free hummus mixed together.

Thank YOU for sharing Tracy. Wow - that Cardiologist sounds awful. "Diet and exercise make no difference." WHAT?!?!

I'm really sorry your cardiologist was dismissive, I've been some version of vegetarian/vegan and whole food plant based for over 25 years. I now follow Dr. Jennings' Portfolio diet for cholesterol lowering. My cholesterol was high most of that time and I stubbornly refused to take statins. Now I worry about the damage I did to my blood vessels refusing to take a statin with such high blood cholesterol. I take a statin now, the side effects are negligible when compared with the effects of a stroke. I worked on a stroke unit for 17 years, and strokes can be devastating and life altering. Both my parents died before the age of 50 and my familial cholesterol is very high. Don't be like me, if your cholesterol is high consider statins. Diet can only do so much for some of us who have a history of heart disease.

I’m happy to finally hear someone using frozen vegetables. I was questioning whether they were good to use or not.

I use frozen vegetables all the time! They are picked and frozen quickly, so are very nutritious. I say make it as easy as possible to eat WFPB!

I use frozen vegetables because fresh vegetables can go off too quickly and it creates food waste. I never waste frozen vegetables.

I don’t get why people don’t think they are good anyways. 🤷‍♀️. But I’ve been seeing people say they aren’t in comments. They are literally picked and flash frozen right away.

They're healthy in many ways. Yes, they're picked and frozen quickly. I do think it's healthier to also mix in fresh vegetables. Frozen is like cooked, which makes some nutrients more and others less available. Any vegetables is better than no vegetables.

I HIGHLY recommend group class! No need to run if you don’t love it. Lots of wear & tear on joints over time. Nothing more motivating! 😁 Find a really great instructor that you resonate with, & get to a fun class (Zumba, Spinning, barre, kickboxing, etc). The community will carry you!

Good interview, and congratulations to both on your very hard work. Inspiring! I kept waiting to hear how Abby's cholesterol and weight numbers changed though, and how her doctor responded, as those would have been inspiring as well. I was disappointed that there was no discussion on those topics, but Abby seemed like a somewhat trepadious interviewee, so perhaps she was not willing to share that info. Her right, of course.

Hi, I’m sorry we didn’t get to that. I’d be happy to share my numbers! Overall cholesterol was 247 and it decreased to 175 which is the normal range. My weight went from 217 to 148.

75 yr old Sue from IL. My back is ok with 45 mins treadmill level 2 walk. I leave running to everyone who enjoys. I also do 40 mins daily floor/ standing exercise, in addition to 8-9 hr weekly Tai Chi and Chi Kung. Training with swords and fans are great free weights. 52:22

Running is overrated. I used to think a 5k wasn’t worth getting out of bed for. I’ve run a marathon, 5 half marathons and a few 10ks. I developed a repetitive motion hip injury and had to retire so now I couldn’t do a 5k if I wanted to. Do I miss it? Not. At. All 😁. I love rebounding, I walk on a walking pad while I work, and have a gym in my basement for resistance training. Do whatever is fun for you. Running wasn’t fun for me so I have no idea why I used to do it 🤣😂
