Not a pro, not even an amateur. I am headed to Tanzania for 3 weeks. Taking R5 Mark II, 100-500, 24-105, 50 mm 1.4 if it arrives. Dji RS 4, Falcam Treeroot, Prograde 4 TB.
@lindsaydonald7743Сағат бұрын
The tripod is pretty useless on safari, leave it behind. A monopod can work but I generally don't even bother with that. Take a second body in case the first one craps out. Borrow one if needed but absolutely take 2 bodies. Not sure what you will need the 50mm for.......landscapes are better with 24-70mm.
@johnr193Күн бұрын
Went on safari in May 2024. Brought R5 with 100-500, 24-105 and 14-35 (and 2x teleconverter). Didn't use the 14-35 much. Used the 24-105 in town and non-game drive shots. 100-500 was used mostly. Got some great shots.

Got a trip upcoming to Kenya. Just ordered myself a Canon R6 mark 2 as I want an upgrade to my old 7D (mark1) Swithering over getting the 100-500mm or 200-800mm as I've still got my old 100-400mm 5.6. So I guess I'll see how it goes with the new body and make a decision after that.

Thank for this amazing video... again. I want to go on Safari in 2026. I have the Sony a6700 and want to buy the Sony 100-400 GM as my main wildlife lens . For Game drives at dusk and dawn though, I was wondering if I should get a f/1.4 prime lens (e.g. 85mm) or rather a not so bright zoom lens (e.g. Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8). What du you think?

Haven't gone to Africa yet but I do have an Alaska trip in the works that I'm planning on taking both my a1 and a7SIII with the holy trinity plus the 200-600. So two bodies and four lenses with the Atomos Ninja V, batteries, MBP, blah blah blah and all the things. I'm only taking one tripod, it's a manfrotto oss with the mhxpro-bhq2 (definitely didn't remember that, it's just sitting next to me!). Also taking a couple of GoPro's. Should be a good test run though since we'll be on foot most of the way!

I took SONY 200-600 with 1.4 tc and 24-105 (perfect for hot air balloon). Bring some sort of plastic cover for lens/camera due to constant dust layer. You can buy large bags of local nuts in Nairobi airport for cheap. Bring empty bean bag which your guide will fill for you. Sneakers, long light weight pants, long sleeves, hoodies, layer up. Cool nights/ mornings. Rare if any mosquitos, but staying covered is a good bet.

Honestly massively surprised you're happy with 400mm. I had a 600mm of safari and while it was a little tight sometimes, most of the time it was great, or i could've used even more reach. Edit: I'd switch the r5 and r1. Zoom lets you get perfect framing, r5 lets you crop in a pinch.

Would you ever make a video explaining what leads a lot of photographers into this type of photography? I notice a lot of higher net worth people tend to lean towards this photography. Is it just because you guys get to feel part of a special club or do you feel like you’re doing something that makes a difference? I think it’s cool, but don’t really get what is being achieved through it? Just a fun vacation I guess to see some cool animals. I’d love to hear people’s thoughts!
@kennethwilliamsincКүн бұрын
If you like wildlife photography, trips like this are like the holy grail of wildlife photography. You see mostly “higher net worth” doing this because these trips are EXPENSIVE and that’s not including the gear needed.
@SeanLewisMediaКүн бұрын
@ That makes sense! I haven’t gotten the bug for wildlife photography yet but that definitely makes sense
@sgporkКүн бұрын
Because many people grew up watching nat geo channel or animal planet.. something like that. And seeing animal in the open/wild is 100% different from seeing animal in a zoo. So. If 1 would like to do so. The only way is to go Safari/Africa in this case and these trip are not cheap. Infact more expensive than typical city tour. Wildlife photography includes animal and bird. Why isit also popular may be because human we see human everywhere. On the street.. at workplace.. at home.. etc. But 1 dont see animal everyday. So its a really cool and different exposure all together. And almost every photographer/hobbyist would love to have own a very big lens at some point. And the best use for big lens is at a Safari.
