Narrow Road Adventures

Күн бұрын

Discovering the diverse terrain in the Huron-Manistee National Forest in Michigan as we traveled down its ORV routes and camped in its backcountry. Ending the weekend with some relaxation on Ludington Beach.
Note: I created this video for my personal use and enjoyment before having started my KZbin channel. I added the song "Burn One Down" and later realized it was about pot smoking (how did I not catch that? I don't know). We strive to have our videos present who we are as people and what we stand for; this song does not represent who we are. We personally do not use, condone its use, nor do we pass judgement on those who use it. We strive to learn from past videos and continue to make better videos in the future. Thank you for watching & subscribing.
If you enjoyed this video please "Like" and "Subscribe" to join our many adventures to come!
Soundtracks: "Traveler" by Chris Stapleton, "Burn One Down" by Ben Harper

I videoed the engine build process so if I have time I might put that one together but videoing build progress always makes projects take twice as long. Somewhere I have footage of my front bumper build (built after this video) but never got around to editing it.

Starting this last Mermorial weekend, I took a week trip from South West Michigan to the UP, just my dog and I and spent about 3 days in the Manistee National Forest area. Even rented a rubber raft @PineRiverPaddleSports and spent a day on the Pine River. I was in my lifted Lexus GX 470 and went down a few of these seasonal roads. I would have spent more time exploring them but since I was just one vehicle and a lot of times with out cell service, I was reluctant to get to far off the beaten path. Id love to spend more time on them if I could get another vehicle to go explore with me.

Sounds like a great trip! This particular video we were just running ORV trails most of the time but since this trip we just explore the seasonal roads that are aren’t beat up like the ORVs. There are lots of neat areas to explore in the Manistee Forest. As dry as it has been there aren’t many muddy areas to be concerned about right now but caution is the safest mindset if self-recovery options are limited. Thanks for watching & happy trails to you!

Thanks bud! I appreciate the feedback. This video was initially created for personal viewing, not necessarily for KZbin. They've gotten much better from my first edits of high school snowboarding trips. I'm hoping to step it up more in future videos.

Need help on something, Do I need any sort of permit or anything to go here? Or can I just get up and drive there? I’m in Detroit Michigan and am wanting to go but am unsure if I need anything.

If you use ORV routes you're going to need ORV permits. Look up on DNR site. Around $35 for everything.

This is a frequently asked question and the rules don’t make it easy to understand. If you have a road licensed vehicle (w/ license plate) you do not need ORV permits on all ORVs. It is only needed ORV routes that cannot be traveled by 2WD vehicles & within ORV scramble areas such as Silver Lake Dunes and State run 4x4 parks. Yet, if you want to error on the safe side, go ahead and purchase the permits. It goes to helping maintain the trail systems.

Where about where you at? What trail system?
@NarrowRoadAdventures

The trails were all official "ORV routes" within the Manistee Forest. The first day we covered the Little Manistee routes and some around it. Then we drove asphalt north near Cadillac where we spent the second and third days covering the North Missaukee Route and those around it. Thanks for checking out my videos. In the future I plan to do a better job explaining the areas we are covering.

Brian Tenney I don’t have the specific route we traveled but on my website I have compiled all of MI DNR’s ORV Routes. For this trip we primarily stayed on the Routes but there are many seasonal forest roads that are nice to explore. www.narrowroadadventures.com/overlanding-the-michigan-manistee-f

@NarrowRoadAdventures
@NarrowRoadAdventures 5 жыл бұрын
Tim Hopper In this video I’m running 35x12.5x15 Mickey Thompson Baja Claws. It’s one of the coolest looking tires out there in my opinion and paddles through mud really well but they got super noisy and couldn’t stand them. I went to Cooper STT Pros (same size) and they’re much better. Perform great off road, better in slick rock and winter, much quieter on-road. I’d recommend them over the Claws. With a 3” lift on an XJ 31s or 32s should be a good fit.

Do you need a permit for michigan ORV trails? I can't seem to find any info on it
@NarrowRoadAdventures
@NarrowRoadAdventures 6 жыл бұрын
Adam Zmija Sorry for the late reply. Yes you do need a Michigan ORV & ORV Trail permit if you plan to travel on the ORV routes. You can pick up permits at some MI gas stations, bait & tackle shops, ATV stores, or DNR stations.

If you stay on NFS roads, you do not need a permit in Manistee/Huron Natilnal Forest. You do need one if you plan on leaving NFS roads. Alwsys have a NFS MVRM with you.

Most seasonal roads in Michigan are active tree routes. Try not to tear them up to much. Semi trucks have to get in and out of there with logs many own their own trucks and when they get stuck out there it's often well over $1k dollars to get pulled out. Be respectful of the land as well please take your trash with you so the state doesn't close these roads and trails to the public.
