Welcome to Mosaic Monday!
In this tutorial I will teach you how to crochet this eye catching Mosaic design. This pattern is worked in a NEW MULTIPLE of 12 + 1 and is not Part of the Crochet Along (CAL).
The chart for this is in my Etsy shop for $2.00 USD which you can find here:
www.etsy.com/FiberFoxStudios/...
You DO NOT need the chart to do this tutorial, every row is shown in the tutorial. The chart is only available for those who wish to purchase it instead of following the tutorial here on KZbin. The file contains both the single repeat taught here in this video and the additional repeats for those who want to continue for multiple repeats of the pattern. NOTE: Ravelry no longer accepts chart only uploads so unfortunately I can only utilize my Etsy shop at this time.
Mosaic crochet is great for all skill levels and can be used to create many different things such as blankets, pillows, purses/bags, totes and garments. You can crochet these patterns in any combination you would like or just choose one and make and entire project with the same design. The result will be an eye catching, geometric design that is unisex and versatile.
Suggested starting chains for various projects - counts include +1 at end:
Baby blanket: 97 to 121 chains depending on yarn size used
Throw blanket : 157 chains, yarn size will affect total width and the number of repeats I'd up to you and will determine total length
Tote or Throw Pillow: 37 chains or 49 chains depending on yarn size used and desired size
Makeup or Notions bag: 25 to 37 chains depending on size of yarn and desired width of bag
Scarf: 37 to 49 chains depending on yarn size used and desired width. I recommend size 3 light weight yarn or smaller for wearables. This stitch out will have you work the pattern in the width of the scarf moving up additional rows to create the total length. you can chain 97 to 121 chains 9r more to create it by desired length and then work it to the desired width.
You can create any project you like from Mosaic Crochet, these are just a few suggestions!
HOOK SIZE: I am using a 5mm hook in this tutorial. I recommend using the below hook sizes depending on yarn used:
3 DK yarn : 3.5mm to 4mm
Size 4 Medium/worsted weight: 5mm to 5.5mm.
Mixing 3 & 4 weight: 4mm to 4.5mm
THE YARN: I'm using size 4 yarn, any brand will work as well as any size. I love using DK weight yarn for Mosaics...If you are looking for some new yarns to try, check out Deramores! They have a huge selection of all kinds if yarn! And if you want to save $5.00 on your first order you can use this link to check out their yarns: i.refs.cc/jQr71X4p?smile_ref=e...
Note on mixing yarn sizes 3 (DK) & Size 4 (Medium Worsted weight): THE TRICK TO MIXING YARN SIZES IS JUST KEEPING YOUR TENSION EVEN AND USING THE SMALLEST SIZE HOOK RECOMMENDED FOR THE SMALLER YARN! You can use any yarn size you like and can use yarn that is all the same size, you do not have to mix yarn sizes.
To begin your project you will chain in multiples of 12 plus 1 at the end. You will skip the first chain and begin working in the second chain from the hook, ending up with an odd number of stitches. EXAMPLE: I chained 37 and had 36 stitches at the end of my first Foundation Row.
Stitches used in this project: Back Loop Single Crochet and Front Loop Double Crochet (drop down double crochet as I like to call it).

Thank you so much Marcia! I actually made dishcloths from this pattern that you are commenting on, pattern 38 and I used the first pattern in the Native Bliss CAL for some dishcloths. Any of them can be used really and you can make a set from a few different patterns just using the same colorways so you can keep it fun and interesting. Hope this helps!!! 😘😘

Hi! Lovely & THANKS! What do you mean by NEW multiple? Is this multiple of 12 or 10 (towards the bottom of your drop-down it states multiple 10, but maybe that's for multiple types of yarn??)... (I've never done this type of crochet but I've been seeing your videos 🙃) Thanks so much ❣️
@FiberFoxStudios
@FiberFoxStudios 4 жыл бұрын
New multiple means it's different number of starting chains than the ones I have out put previously. But I believe you caught a typo in my description so thank you I will fix that!!! This one works out even at multiples of 12 plus 1. So the mosaic patterns have to have a base number of stitches for the pattern to work out evenly. So as I figure out a new design I figure out how many chains you need to create the pattern. I'm probably explaining that poorly but a lot of patterns actually work together well even though they are different multiples so I'm going to do a video soon that explains how you can work various patterns that require different starting chains together in one project. Hopefully that makes sense lol if I confused you more just let me know!

Is it possible that you are accidentally working some of your sc in the same stitches that should be taken up by the dc's? I can't really think of anything else that would cause you to be so off. How many chains are you starting with? How many stitches do you have on the row you are currently on? And if you can tell me what Row you discovered the issue on I can give you the repeat stitches so you can check and make sure you have the repeat down. Sorry for the delay in reply, I had a sudden flurry of comments so yours wasn't showing until I went into all comments to check and make sure I hadn't missed any! I'll be looking for a reply from you so I can try and answer quicker this time.

This one was not designed with in the round in mind like my newer stuff is so I think I need to make a chart for you. Can you work from a chart? If you can could you email me so I'll have your email to send it to when I get it done? I'll work on it this weekend and get it to you asap. My email 8s fiberfoxstudios@gmail.com just put the pattern # in the subject of the email so I can find it easy. I get a ton of alert emails and I don't want to overlook tour message. If you don't work from charts please reply here and I'll try to just help via comments, maybe put all the row repeat info for in the round here or something.

Good tutorial but the repetition got a little annoying after about six rows. It’s not necessary to keep demonstrating how to do a single crochet or double crochet after the first 40 times. We get it! Even a rank beginner should be able to follow along after a while. Ironically the video only shows how to start and end a row once, in the beginning. Why not repeat that a couple of times?
@FiberFoxStudios
@FiberFoxStudios 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dana, its an older video, the teaching style on these has since changed. I guess its hard for you guys to imagine the number of requests someone making videos gets asking for me to explain it this way vs that way. Show row start and end once vs. Several times or show it every row, don't show it at all, etc. Trying to accommodate everyone's requests ends up with this. You may like the later videos better but they could still potentially annoy you. I'm not the best fit for all but I do hope you enjoyed making this one and appreciate the feedback.

I wanted to read the comments before complaining. 😁 I would love to see an updated version. I like the level of repeating of the stitches. Please consider chaining 25 stitches so we can see the end. It took me a while to see that the end mirrors the beginning. This will also allow you to record the correct route repeat. Thinking about it, it makes sense to go to route three, but I would've gone to row seven. The end of this video (you have to admit) seems abrupt. You probably have a video on how to do the ends and could've been mentioned at the end or give an example of what to do with the ends. Please consider revamping this video. It's a good gateway pattern to mosaic crochet that's not too simple or too complicated, explained well enough for beginners without annoying experienced people. (It's not like they couldn't speed up the video. Sheesh! Gee whiz! 🙄😉😉😉)
