On today's adventure I started by packing up my sled full of my camping gear and the aluminum foil packing tape and other tools needed to build this wild shelter. it was the same spot where I built the saran wrap shelter in the winter snow storm and the cardboard box shelter in winter. I then began by forging for the aluminum foil and I shook some tape down form a tape tree. I laid down the blue tarp on the floor for some nice waterproof ground. I then began to tie up with some rope the stick to support the foil roof. Once I tied up the web of trees I started to tear and wrap it with the aluminum foil. Once I layered the aluminum foil sheets like shingles and wrapped the bottom of the roof with some layers as well the roof was complete. I built the roof on a slight slant to let the rain drip off and drain to one side during the rain storm that was coming. After a quick break in the hammock it was time to get back at it and build or put up the walls. I decided to wrap each tree trunk with the foil like a burrito then taping segments of foil length wise to each foil tree burrito base for support. I began to layer and build up each wall. Now it was time for the door I wanted a door that would swing open and closed to keep animals and the rain out. I used a tall stick to divide the front wall in half and then built the door out of other sicks and rope and wrapped it all in aluminum foil for the walls of the door. I used packing tape hinges on the door. Once the door was up I put some bottom layers of foil all around the shelter and then covered the bottom layer with the leaves and sticks form the forest floor to make it weather and wind proof. Finally! after all the time the shelter was built and it looked amazing. Like a giant mirror in the middle of the woods or a crashed space ship. I'm sure the airplanes flying above could see the reflection from the sun from walls and the roof all the way from up there in the sky. It was bright and amazing! Exhausted I needed some food and energy. For dinner I cooked some four cheese tortellini with a nice spicy read pasta sauce.Yumm. I cooked up some orange bell pepper and some garlic in a pan as well for some extra flavor. Once it was all cooked up I made my pasta bowl out of aluminum foil to fit the theme for the day. I poured myself a large bowl and began to chow down! Tasty! After dinner it was time to metal detect he forest. I wanted to find some treasure it would be sweet if I found some gold ha. I believe this was very old farm land so I knew there was chance to find some cool stuff. First thing I found and dug up was an old Winchester turkey and pheasant shotgun shell. I then made it down to the larger pond and filmed a bit of a turtle covered in moss sitting on a log I the middle of the water. so cool :D. I then found an old chewed up deer skull. I then metal detected an old like metal double carabiner or clip of some sort. I then I found some fungus spores on an old log which I stepped on and made a cloud of spores pretty wild. I then metal detect and found a larger piece of metal with long hole in it I though it could have been an old like plow tool or some sort of saw blade but I'm really not sure what it could have been. Now it was time to relax a bit form all the work /activities . I watched the sunset and filmed the clouds rolling by beautiful skies tonight :D. Now I started to cook up a snack. Jiffy Pop it was. While cooking it the side burst and about a quarter of the popcorn came flying out and some of it got burned as well lol. Still tasty! I then went on a night walk and filmed some wonderful frog life super loud but awesome! After the night walk it was time for bed. I turned on my little buddy heater and tucked in for the night. At around 5 AM in the morning it began to rain hard. the shelter healed up beautifully. It was morning I Made some breakfast pancakes yumm! After the delicious meal it was time to pack up and head back home. I tore down the shelter in the funnest way I could think lol. All that work and it tore down so fast lol. I had the largest ball of foil Ive ever seen and I packed it up on my sled and dragged it back home. It was a wonderful shelter and experience I truly hope you enjoyed the journey along with me :D
Thanks for stopping by and have a beautiful day :D

I was thinking a harrow tine but couldn't work out why it would be "edged" like that. Too blunt to be a ploughshare, and it probably wouldn't be curved either.

You should buy some 4 x 8 sheets of 1/2" foam board and make a hut from that stuff. It would be so easy and insulated as well. Only draw back would be carrying it in to the woods. Not heavy, but bulky.

Hey @Quiet Nerd, this may be a little too late, but that large piece of metal looks like it could be carbon steel. You could spark test it on a bench grinder if you have access to one. This one was funny. Last fall I tried to make one of these for the fire pit because it was raining and I didn't want it to rain on my food. It failed because of the wind. Type wasn't an option for me. At one point I watched KZbin videos on making a wood stove to heat a tent using metal vent sheets but that failed because the the people with me got drunk and took over my project (I don't drink). I thought about trying to make one out of foil pans or tinfoil but it would likely melt the foil. If you figure out how to make a wood stove to heat a tent for under $10. Please share that video. There's a lot of homeless people that might benefit from the videos you do. How about Yarn or any type of rope or rope material combined with twigs and leaves? Maybe if you get the opportunity you can do one. You have such a positive attitude on these projects. I truly believe you have a lot to offer the world. I just hope your blessings are equal in value so that you never lose whatever it is that makes you, you. I look forward to seeing your next adventure.

@@QuietNerd The wood stove or some heating system for a tent at or under $10. Is something I wanted to figure out after realizing just how many people are homeless and die due to hyperthermia. They don't have much money. Perhaps we or someone will in time figure it out. I also toss vegetable seeds on the ground in remote areas across 3 states every spring in hopes they successfully grow to feed random people in need. My insane desire to help in some way is why I love your videos. I don't know your intentions but what I see is you showing people they can use random items for shelter in any weather condition. It's refreshing.

What's up , Quiet nerd , I wanna say two things. First, happy New Year and that's not a bad idea making a shelter out of aluminum foil . I seen KZbinrs make shelter's out of Saran wrap but you're the first using aluminum foil . And with the son , it should be pretty warm inside there . 💯👍😎Thanks for sharing.

I can't think of the name right now but the large blade looks like a vintage tool that people used to shave wood with to round out corners on logs and things like that. If I find the name, I'll let you know.

@@QuietNerd I tried googling it and almost came up with it but not quite. It attaches to a table and has a handle like the iron bar that was sticking up. It shapes and shaves wood with ease since it's a very sharp blade. Maybe if you did a lookup on google with an image of yours, that might help. I'm still trying to think of the name and find images of what I think it is. It's one of those things that will bug you until you find the answer. lol

@@QuietNerd I finally found out what I'm thinking of. The clogger's knife. A channel on KZbin called Advoko MAKES has a video where he makes one.

17:49, injection knife. at my old job we used something similar but larger to inject fertilzer, that was likly used for anhydrous or 28%. atleast that what it looks like to me, if the tube is hollow anyway, could just be a cuting knife for a farm impliment

Far out! I thought I'd already seen all your "I made a shelter out of weird stuff" videos. Awesome to see your foraging skills are still on form. The way you managed to find that foil and tape out in the wilderness is an inspiration to all bushcrafters. The concept of capsicum-and-garlic flavoured pancakes sounds interesting... might give it a try some day.

FYI - bring along a spray bottle of vinegar. Spray your pan, wipe with paper towel. Pan is clean!
