Thanks to the review, I'll hold off on upgrading now, was looking to go from a 3770K @ 4.4, to a 7700 because I found a strix b250 mobo in a dumpster; looks like it was in there for a reason lol. A shop in Lithuania is the only store on ebay to sell the i7 7700 for a 'reasonable' price $26EUR+$10EUR shipping, while China and US still list them at $100+ Just wanted to try and squeeze a little more performance out of a Vega 64. which looks like it would be bottlenecked anyway if the 7700 can't handle a 5700XT.

It's definitely meant to be combined with the GTX card. And I have a very small motherboard, and an even smaller case but I want to upgrade my CPU. The i7 7700 is the latest 1151 Socket CPU that I can use without buying a new ITX motherboard. Tho I'm definitely considering buying a new mother with a new Socket type. Tho at that point, I'm better off buying a new PC case and slowly upgrading my whole PC to something new. This generation is a beast tho.

@CheapBastard in summer heatwave of 32C indoors subnautica without turbo fans mode edges 95c With max fans its 88c But that gaming laptop is old af Need to upgrade into legion LOQ with 13650hx or legion slim with 8845hs and 4070 But budget is low and im quitting my gulag road construction job in november 22 so ill see the options later But its 50% likely gonna still use 1050ti and 7700hq laptop

Im running the i3 7100 and got a i7 7700 for free and I have a GTX 1050ti and I'm playing Call of duty black ops 6 at 1080p on balanced preset and it is oky for me and my budget does not allow me upgrade to a newer processor and graphics card😅

There is insane price gouging on these old skylake and kabylike platforms - why is that? xD Crazy when you consider that you can get a used ryzen 5 2600x for around half the price of that i7 7700 AND you will get the same single thread performance BUT 2 extra cores and 4 extra threads, which will eliminate your microstuttering and frame drops of the 4 core limited 7700. if you're on a tight budget and you're on an old platform like kabylake or skylake it makes zero sense to try and upgrade or max out that platform for those prices when you can get a used Ryzen 2600x AND an AM4 B450 motherboard both for the same price of a used i7 7700... and be on a far newer, still relevant platform. Sure, you get integrated graphics on the 7700 but old integrated graphics cannot account for the drastic price difference as compared to a used 2600x with 4 extra threads on tap - so again, why the crazy pricing? the market is messed up xD

The biggest issue would also be the fact that this Chipley won't be supported by Windows in a few months. Also, that's too much card for that chip. I'd try like an Rx 5500xt 8gb @ 1080p low and only expect close to 60fps. Yeah, the Intel fan boys always think their old hardware is still relevant 10 years down the road. They want an arm and a leg for it. Wonder how Oct 2025 is gonna go for them when they upgrade to windows 11, and they get no support. They'll probably still 100 usd for their i7 6700k. Lmao
