And to run against this opponent, they selected... a black wife-beater who is also pro-choice. Don't kid yourself into thinking that only one party is too far gone, this entire system is going down the drain and what we're seeing in both parties politically as well as in every facet of our culture and society are symptoms of an ageing empire far past its prime. As for us, a constitutional republic, it doesn't do us any good to vote if so many of the voters can't even tell you what the three branches of government are or what position in government is third in line for the presidency. Or what were the two sides in the American Civil War or what country we won our independence from. Being able to vote is a good thing but only if the voters know what they're doing. I agree. At first I was like, Whaaat? You can’t be serious! But I shut up and listened to his very good points about how boys are raised and what toxic masculinity has turned into, and it’s very far from where and why it originated. Sadly most of the men I’ve known throughout my life, their own mothers were the root cause of most, if not all of their issues. Maybe I’m just lucky. Lol Sadly the guys do have problems and by the time they reach adulthood they either don’t get the help they need or refuse it or think nothing is wrong with them. Possibly it’s toxic mentality and not masculinity? Something to ponder.

Reeves: "It's pushing boys away from us and towards online figures who at least appear to be listening to them". I can't believe I'm actually hearing this on national TV! I dealt with a series of incedents in college that put me in a horrible headspace. Girls bullying me, spreading false accusations, and an ex who was emotionally manipulative. I sought help dealing with this, but even bringing it up was considered misogynist. So I read some supposed "self-help" books which actually acknowledged my struggles, but they were basically PUA manifestos talking about "alpha males" and some extremely toxic approaches. This took me to corners of the internet where guys were going through the same thing. It started to coagulate into conspiracy theories and a very toxic outlook on life. This was just before "redpill" was a thing (besides The Matrix obviously), but that's essentially what it was. I had eventually pulled myself out with the help of Christopher Ryan's research on hunter-gatherers (even if it is questionable). But I really only had ME to pull myself out. Now I've seen a therapist to help untangle the bullying and the redpill toxicity. So let me put this as clearly as possible. I would NEVER have gone down that road if people had just LISTENED. Simply demonizing this stuff without understanding where it comes from and that many of them WANT to be pulled out of it, is just more ignorance and apathy towards men's mental issues. Often or most commonly by people who claim they want men to "express themselves" and "not be afraid to seek therapy". The movement I had followed that espoused "Gender equality for women and men" had turned its back on me. These days I try to help guys out of it when I see them going that way. They aren't "powerful men afraid to lose their power". Many who I knew had strong cases of autism, social anxiety, and depression. Some with PTSD from abusive female authority figures. These weren't some CEO's wishing they could "own women" again. If we don't listen to boys, guess who does...

Is there such a thing as toxic femininity? There are certainly some really unpleasant women, although maybe not as many as there really unpleasant men. And they may exhibit their unpleasantness in distinctively different ways. But they're definitely out there. I suspect the damage they do is often more likely to go unchecked, simply because we're not so accustomed to recognising their behaviours for what they are. A male bully, for example, may rely on his physical strength to subjugate others. A female bully, however, is more likely to operate socially, engaging in gossip, spreading rumours, and reputation destruction, which can actually be much harder to deal with. Many men have bruising experiences in the family justice system, from which they can emerge feeling aggreived, often with good reason. Men and women are too often thought of in binary opposition to each other. But while I think there are identifiable variations at the population level, individuals are comprised of a bundle of behaviours, experiences and learning, much of which exists on a spectrum. The discourse around boys and young men nowadays is often unhelpful and alienating, and a lot of social indicators for young men are going in the wrong direction. Discussions about equality tend to focus on access to opportunities and resources at the top, but we also need to look at the people who gravitate to the bottom of socioeconomic hierarchies. Men have always tended to predominate at the bottom, as well as the top, but while progress has been made on raising women up to the same level as men in education, work, politics etc., not so much has been done to help the men who at the bottom. Society pays a price for this, because those men are more likely to be antisocial, end up in prison, become addicts, etc. But there is also the human price of frustrated, lonlmely, unseen and unhappy lives. So the diversity and inclusion agenda needs to recognise more than it does at the moment the particular barriers and problems youn men encounter, and that their developmental needs may be different from girls, but are worth investing in. As a society, I think we need to show our boys some love, and walk a mile in their shoes, rather than assuming that if the don't at first succeed they are simply delinquent. I don't love everything about Jordan Peterson by any stretch, but he is clearly looked up to as a hero by many young men, and at the root of that is that he sees them as having potential to flourish, rather than just a persistent source of problems. He offers them a kind of benign paternal love, and sees their masculine traits as valuable and productive, when appropriately directed. He believes in them, and that's a very powerful and worthwhile thing to do for any young person embarking on their life journey.
