And Bill attributes the lower poverty rates of senior citizens of the 1960s that spent most of their working years during the 1930s depression and fighting in WW2, just missing the boom of the post WW2 work force, and somehow claims the current senior citizens that worked their entire careers in better economies and under social security are all above the poverty line just because of a medical plan policy. I do agree with you, but also see that others are learning too. I'd never heard of pitbull, beside the dog, but I can see why he thinks that way. I am also confident that he learned a lot from coming to this show, that might make him a more engaged citizen. Life has a tendency of breaking a lot of people with years of frustrations. MTV NEWS Who are you to judge how knowledgeable i am? Ive watched the video from jon oliver and am a huge fan of the series. I actually went to a charter school from grades k-8. parents practially beg to get there kids in there to this day. and its students regularly out perform those in the Public schools. But to clarify any confusion, my point is that we can address the problems with charter schools without blowing it up all together (ie. more regulation, thorough background checks of those starting, more followup by the gov). The public school system is FAILING America's children... I think pitbull even says in the video above that the Public schools were failing in that particular city when the passionate british fella cut him off. if Pitbull wants to start a charter school to at least give parents a more diverse field of schools to pick from in his own city, I think he did a good thing. I especially dont see how in this case people are attacking him for it in the comments.

You must work at the local level to change things and talk to kids about how they can live their lives to better themselves. Yeah, executive and legislative power is important to vote on and know about, but what you can do on a 24 hour basis is help your local community.

I think one of the best features of this show is that it presents viewpoints and gives a platform for voices from many different backgrounds. Guests are allowed to speak their minds, as earnest as they care to, and then Bill or others get to rebuke or agree those opinions. Pitbull of course is not an expert on politics, but he has a distinct perspective as a Latino American that is passionate about certain social issues. This debate was entertaining to watch.

I work as a teacher at the highest rated charter school in my state. Many charter schools are much better than public schools but we don't need to use this trial and error method to find a better way to teach. We just need our government to get their shit together and do exactly what Finland does. What we forget is every error can ruin countless children's lives.

Comment about the charter schools was absolutely correct and the bigger point about the way Finland does there schooling, is by making sure that there are no private schools at all, ensuring that the rich kids have to go to school at the same place as the poor kids and what that does is raise the standards of the schools to what the rich parents want for their children. Much better system and that is why they test better then the rest of the world.

Finnish education system is good because teachers are respected (hence, smart and ambitious people actually aspire to be teachers), have masters degree, and have high degree of autonomy over the curriculum of the kids (hence, are actually passionate about the materials that they teach). Their salaries are in fact not dissimilar to US teacher salaries ($40-$60k).

The problem with charter schools is they aren't all performing. ANYONE can open a charter school and that is the danger of it. We still need public schools until there is a way to make sure all charter schools perform at an exemplary level, which would actually make it closer to a public school.
