Thanks. I hadn't got far enough into Fusion 360 to utilize the Cam !

Hello do you have a tutorial on how to draw this?
@clonephone828 жыл бұрын
Hello Patrick, Really great tutorial. I have an additional question: If I have finished should I copy all the components into a new project before I start with the tool path generation? Because If I lay all the design flat with your nester script is there a way to save that design step because maybee I would go back to the design later.

Patrick, great video..hw did you built the tabs along the curve? thank you
@PatrickRainsberry8 жыл бұрын
I actually created a body to represent the tabs and patterned it along the curve. THe manually rotated them to ge the alignment just right. Next combine the tab bodies into the main body. Finally you have to manually draw the dogbone fillet sketches. So a little more manual, but you can get there.

Great tutorial. Was wondering how long it took the your CNC to cut out all those components?
@PatrickRainsberry5 жыл бұрын
i did it on the fancy shopbot at Pier 9 in San Francisco so it was pretty quick. Maybe ~30-45 min

Out of curiosity, is there an easy(ish) way to add a tolerance to a cut like you did for the tabs? This might not be needed in wood, but I do a lot of 3d printing and small tolerance gaps are often needed there if you don't want to end up doing a bunch of filing afterwards, or if you want to do print in place joints etc... If I was doing this myself I would probably cut out the tab and then push/pull a tolerance distance, but wondering if there is a better way.

+Alluvian yes i believe so. This is outside my expertise (contrary to the publishing of this video i really don't know much about CAM :) I think you can apply an offset to the tool path in "compensation" or you can kind of fake it i think by changing the diameter of the cutter vs what you are really using? Is that kind of what you are talking about?

I was more thinking on the CAD side of things, Where you could subtract a slot out of another object, but leave a tolerance gap between them. I know I could do this by subtracting two objects, then grabbing the connecting face(s) and doing a push/pull operation, but this would be harder with more complex shapes. Just something I find myself doing a lot, making tabs that fit into slots, but either the tab or the slot needs 0.2 mm or so of gap.

+Alluvian i see what you are saying Yah you can definitely just do that in the actual CAD model.

Alluvian use a slightly different cutter definition...but don't change the cutter. Your slots will have an extra few thou and it will not be noticed in the overall dimensions.

Patrick, I'm new to Fusion 360 and the CNC world. How would I get the file for this chair to load into my CNC router?

+Frank Condon You can actually get it from the link in the video description.
