I wish I could play in bronze, I once tried to get my second account to bronze, I couldn't get lower than low gold by what to me seems like heavy throwing. If I would have thrown any harder I would have been sure I'd be reported tons of times since it would be so obvious (in my eyes). And at that moment my main account was only high plat so not even that much higher and I was playing dps instead of support (dogshit aim). Like I played hanzo, disabled my hud and would overextend on purpose and sometimes miss arrows on purpose, get into enemies faces on purpose and still I couldn't lose properly while doing duoQ with my friend (same rank) who was throwing quite a bit more obvious. Unless you go full blatenly throwing it's basicly impossible to even get to bronze if ur higher ranked.

He did higher rank Winston before but the has changed so much since then that some advice doesn't work and some new advice is necessary for people learning Winston.

lmao you expect him to cater to everyone? Why account for Master and GM when it accounts for less than 1% of the playerbase? The closest he can get to catering to most of the playerbase is by reviewing matches in the diamond level and below. Furthermore, he hasn't done a Bronze coaching in a while.

In bronze a turret is like a bastion with perfect aim

Bastion has more health, not to mention armor. Bastion has about the same range as turret in his turret mode but far more in sentry. Also bastions spray cone is massive. If you can’t hit anyone with that you shouldn’t even be playing.

Brandon Messer its a joke meaning because bronze players are so bad a Turret can out damage and has better aim then all those players. A turret is like another player for bronze players (which i agree so many times has my team been stuck because a turret (not in bronze but i see this in other ranks too)

A couple of things that I think for this player, 1. When Winston walked onto Mercy on the point and didn't jump her that is actually the big brain play, because most Mercy players will fly away as soon as you zap them, so saving your leap guarantees you the kill. 2. When you told WInston to use his ultimate in the door, true it would have stalled the point, but the play he made easily and convincingly won the team fight just by killing the enemy supports, so that was actually the right player.

Aj Smith if you jump into a mercy who has flied to her team you will die most likely unless ur team dives with you. And since it was on attack trading lives for a kill on mercy is not worth it since she will respawn in a shorter time than you. The way to kill mercy is to burst her down so her self heal doesnt take effect. If he jumped on mercy and punched then tesla that would have been like 100 dmg and ur team can finish off the kill easily. Ur job as winston is to harass and create space. Getting kills is ur dps job.

Xenath that could absolutely happen, but at the point where she flies away you have now created an opportunity for your team to engage on the Orisa and you have still won the fight, if she does fly somewhere you can leap to her and kill her, you also won the fight. Also jumping onto the point as Winston is more dangerous even in my SR (Master) because then you have no leap and are vulnerable to be CC'd with no escape. (Edited for spelling)

Yes you can do that, Xenath, but this is bronze mechanical skill, people in this rank will most likely not be good enough to work such combos reliably into their arsenal. Saving leap is way more reliable, and also enables you to have a backup plan. Nothing worse than being a stuck Winston without your abilities.

Hey Sty! Just a little feedback for you. Instead of drawing all of the things you want to explain on the screen, maybe show it in-game, or for when you want to show your mouse movement use an IRL cam. I know it´s a lot of work, but i think it would make everything easier to understand. Great video btw! Keep up the good work!

As a high masters/gm winston main theres one big thing you keep saying that i disagree with; the usage of jump pack. If he walks into the enemy team uninterrupted or can drop down (like 4:30), theres no reason for him to use it. He can save it for chasing a target (like a mercy who has their shift) or to escape. You cant be too spammy with your jump pack, since it does still have a cooldown ignoring the fact that its small. However overall I liked the video theres still things here that low winstons could use :)

True. Why waste the Jump Pack when you can just walk up to the backline? It's very good to have it up to chase the Mercy or evade the fight quickly.

I came here to make this exact point. Winston shouldn't waste his jump pointlessly, especially when he is attacking heroes with escape abilities like Mercy, Genji, Moira, Widow, Tracer, etc. First force them to use their guardian, dash, grapple, fade and then jump them.

Kazuya yes but there are some areas where this player did not use jumps when he could have.. like when chasing a zen alone he can jump to burst him down faster since no other enemy team member is there. And when soldier tac visors jumping on him and being in his face is the best thing to do but he seems like a coward and just keeps on hiding. He never jumped on widow. He missed jumps on high grounds. Overall he needs to use jump more to increase his burst damage. When attacking point A he just walked onto the point while they just had a zen and orisa. He should have jumped to burst them down quicker and increase the time they have left to attack point B. Every second counts in higher ranks so bursting down is really important

Kazuya yeah i was thinking the same. Why jump when you can literally walk on uninterrupted. And I know it's his job to jump the widow but if we're being honest I don't trust a bronze widow enough to be scared and have to jump them.

I knew I should have been more aggressive and jumped onto enemies more, I'll try to keep that in mind while playing games.

My best tip for you to climb to Gold now, is keep using teamwork like you are, that's great. But next time you are playing, voice out your actions. Example: You are playing McCree, and you say to yourself, "I am going to the high ground" and they have a Korean dive comp, you will realize how dumb that is and you will actually cut down on the bad choices in game and you will climb. It sounds dumb, but if you wanna get better, do this.

Having a different sensitivity on different heroes will mess up your aim. Changing it on one hero just because it's more mobile and requires less aiming will screw up your gameplay. Once you get used to it, you can swing your hand without a problem even on heroes like genji with low sensitivity.

Maybe some pc players can't handle different sensitivity like you but I'm a console player and trust me when I say that using different sensitivity is necessary. You can't use the high sens you need for genji with soldier

I mean, to be honest, my sensitivity on heroes that don´t require aim is usually much higher than on those that do. Like, if I play Mercy or Sym its generally higher than on Soldier, Sombra or whatever. Even Moira is slightly higher. It just helps me turn faster with less movement of my arm ( and since I don´t need much aim for them, it doesnt matter)

milky moo - having primal allows you to take way riskier jumps. You can jump on an enemy, and only use primal if you think you’re going to die. Another fun time to use it.... You’re fighting somebody with their back to a cliff. Instantly pop it and you can boop them easily once you get the timing down.

Yea I also call bullshit on his words "a coaching vid like this takes a day to edit".. Must be the worlds worst editor. All he has to do is skim through some vids, pick one he likes, and then do live fedback commentary on it while he draws on the screen. Making the video itself takes no longer than what we just witnessed, there is no post process editing, very little preparation.. I honestly can't see how this could take more time to accomplish than an hour and a half tops. "A whole day" my ass.

No I'm in bronze because every season I do my placement matches there's people who leave that cause our team to lose. I was a gold rank who went down to silver and now bronze and I refuse to believe it's all because of me and it had nothing to do with anyone else. I've seen many great players in bronze but they've gotten screwed the same way I have.

It's not just you, you can get dragged down if youre not playing your best. If youre truly supposed to be in Gold. Next time you take more than 2 losses in a row. GET OFF OVERWATCH. Either you're having a bad day and don't realize or the matchmaker has decided today is your day. But either way get off. Take about 15-30 minutes than come back. That will help. Also as someone who used to yo yo between the low rank before I figured out Overwatch. I can also tell you that each rank has it's own set of strategies that only work at that level. You need to figure that out and adjust accordingly. Also remember that it is rare that one fights you for a non-dps slot, in platinum and below you can carry from every position, So stop trying to fight for it. Learn how to be a great tank/support.

4:30 I disagree, it was an easy mercy pick and he could use the jump jets to get out while being really greedy. I suppose it's free damage in bronze where he wouldn't have been stunned to death, but in diamond and above, jumping down then leaping out us preferred to leaping in then hoping to survive until your next jump

Sometimes, when it's possible to drop down on someone's head without jump pack, it's beneficial to save it as an escape mechanic. Obviously as Sty said, you'll miss out on the jump pack dmg. He's not wrong, but you don't use jump pack to initiate in every single scenario.

you don't want to always initiate with a jump. if you are targeting someone with a mobility ability, you can just drop on them from high ground and bait them to use their mobility ability then Chase them with the jump pack. or you can drop on them and save the jump for an escape if you want to do a soft engage or cause a distraction. if you just jump pack into a team every time, there's a good chance you are going to die many times because you don't have a way to escape.

2 major things you can notice by skimming through. 1. Barely uses jump 2. At times the winston looks at the ground instead at head or chest level

Im a master winston player I managed to reach rank 68 on overbuff last season and have maintained top 300 on there consistently if that means anything lol. Got some tips But first of all lower rank winstons please go into a custom game by yourself change the settings to no cooldowns. And practice his jump. You can pull back to have a smaller jump use this to control where you want to land. Winstons tesla cannon does minimal damage so you need to rely on your jump pack damage and melee damage when you choose to land on a target. If you master his jump you can deal a lot of damage and confirm more kills. Another tip. Get in to the habit of (punch zap punch zap punch zap) onto ARMORED targets like zen, orisa and diva. You deal more damage this way on their armor. Once its gone you can just zap. Dont be predictable. Most winston stick with the team and jump in. Try just walking up on defense safely when a team fight is over onto a corner wait for the fight to inititate when they get distracted drop down and zap their healers if mercy flies away use your jump pack to follow up on it. I want to make a whole video on how I play winston but I dont have the following for it if you would be interested in that let me know.

What if for symmetra's new ability they give her the ability to drop small health packs similar to torb's armor drop, and they give her an ultimate where she can create a large health pack spot, placeable wherever she could place her other ults. Would make her more supportive and give her more utility to work with her team.

Okay I haven’t finished the video I’m at 4:34 and as a master rank winston main I gotta point out-you don’t want to jump in there, walking into the point and start zapping that mercy is the right thing to do, cuz 1:if mercy flies to her teammate you can chase her by jumping 2.if the enemy team starts focusing on you, you can jump away. I know it’s bronze level game but, I genuinely don’t know if sty is good enough to “coach” all those players, cuz as far as I know he only plays dps(and a bit support perhaps). I enjoy those coaching videos but please if you’re actually trying to learn from those, watch with a grind of salt.
