So nice to see someone talking sense about this camera. Its a monumental release and we see Canon innovating once again. The combination of all these “small upgrades” makes for a massively more powerful tool!

Appreciate this video. I currently own the R3 and very much enjoy that camera. That said, I do want the higher megapixel count for my photo work and the updated video features as I have been focusing on more video the past year. Your video solidifies I made the right choice going for the R5MKII rather than the R1. To touch on the R1 for a brief moment - as an R3 owner it feels the R1 falls short for being something truly great, and I say that mostly based on the price. If it were closer to a $5500 camera, sure, but at $6300 it doesn't feel that much different (to warrant buying a new camera) to the R3; essentially for current R3 owners (at least this one) the R1 feels like a facelift rather than something new and better. Side note: I do love the larger body with the built-in grip of the R3 so much so that I never use my R6 handheld anymore. Now, overall gripes I wish Canon would have addressed with both cameras: why oh why doesn't it have dual CF type A? I say this as I never film on the SD card and if I'm shooting burst for photos I also don't use the SD slot. This becomes an issue for me personally as sometimes I want to switch back and forth between photo and video while shooting moving subjects; the slow buffer on the SD card makes it almost unusable, but I can't record both on the CF card as I'll run out of space. On a completely different note, perhaps something you are more knowledgable than I on, but when I record externally with cinema gamut, the colors are always way off compared to when I recored internally. I have heard this is a common issue; 1) is it? 2) is this addressed with the R5MKII (if it's actually an issue)? Back on topic - again, appreciate this review as it validates the R5MKII was the right choice for my current needs.

Potatojet did a side by side test with the FX3 & R5 II. He’s a Sony fanboy & he said the FX3 has more dynamic range, mostly in the highlights. It looked like he purposely exposed the R5 II brighter than the FX3. That would surprise me since I’ve seen the R5C have more range in the highlights than the FX3 in person & online tests.

Awesome thanks. Open gate would be killer certainly before Sony and Nikon (after Panasonic) if that is that could be implemented via firmware.

Thanks for the answers! I had the ear of a Canon rep, but he ghosted me when I tried to ask a 2nd batch of questions. 😂

thank you so much for the confirmation on the wording of the R5m2 readout speed reduction. There was a LOT of confusing about the wording and it is stated differently on the various Canon websites (USA vs Europe).

Good notes Kenny. Both are great new advancements for Canon. Ultimately I think still photographers are best served by these new bodies and the improved autofocus capabilities. Not quite as much upside for video shooters I think. But I still can't wait to pick up a used R5 II in a couple of years. ;)

Did they fix the wobble of the ibis on a wide lens?

The widest I shot was 24mm and did not see any appreciable wobble.

Would you choose Sony Fx3 or r52 great content
@Owlbot3 ай бұрын
I mean PERSONALLY neither because I need full-sized cinema bodies, I think the FX3 is overrated in general but that's not to say it's not a great camera. It'd come down to how many photo or video features you'd need. If you don't need ANY photo features, I'd pick up a C70 over an FX3. If you need ANY photo features, the FX3 doesn't cut it.

When is OWLCOLOR coming for R5II?😊
@Owlbot3 ай бұрын
Well I'll have this new more "universal" option out soon and then if I can get a hold of the R5II physically I can make the picture profile

@@Owlbot Will there be away to implement this look for Canon RAW Files in Resolve, for few people like us using RAW to decode it to Clog2 ? I think it will make it more Universal and flexible
@Owlbot3 ай бұрын
The new version I'm developing yes because it's LUT based, I'll have to do tests to see if the picture profiles actually transfer to raw, I never actually checked that haha. My brain says "raw is raw" and it doesn't take any profile but I could be wrong.

Kenny, i am wondering if the R5ii will have the option to map a button to activate false color like the r5C, cheers.

even the R8 has this feaure, so I'd assume it should have this option
