Recently I spotted one of this year's owlets sitting all by itself on a branch. Although a parent was surely nearby, it wasn't visible anywhere when this short clip was recorded - at least not to human eyes.
In any event, a few seconds into the video, and without warning, the baby gets dive bombed by what appears to be a hawk. As you'll be able to see, even slowing down that portion to 1/4 speed didn't help to identify the attacker.
Still, even for only two months old the young owlet knew what to do as soon as it recognized the threat. They even brace briefly for being dive bombed again. When that next attack doesn't materialize, the owlet again follows what it knows: Move to a new location and get deeper into the green foliage; sometimes hiding is the way to go for an owlet to avoid threats from above.
