Hopefully Coco lives a long life I had a cat test positive for feline leukemia and he lives to be 23 years old and survived feline leukemia and a house fire and a fan belt incident in a truck. He definitely took advantage of his 9 lives.

OMG, sounds like he's a Superhero Kitty. I also had a cat that tested positive but she only made it six months. But, in the states it's quite possible to live as long as your kitty. I foster bottle babies so I have to be careful and get them combo tested once old enough. But, we have a lady that has a farm full of those infected. She has a huge cation built and a cat proof fence so their safe and can't wonder.

I'm a little bit confused Jennifer. First of all I'm thrilled that your kitty lived a long and happy life with you. But I'm wondering why they couldn't inoculate the brother so that he wouldn't catch it from his sister and also they made it sound like they would be returning Coco back to the hospital where she would soon pass away. Possibly she was farther alongý than your cat was.

I live in the US. Feline Leukemia is not so rare here. I had rescued a kitten with FL, my vet recommended I put her down, but I couldn't. So I protected her in every way I could (indoors only, good quality cat food, no exposure to unvaccinated kitties, etc.) she lived to be 8 years old and died after some kids in my apartment building were playing with firecrackers and threw one inside my bathroom window. I was at work and came home to find her dead in my bathtub, I am certain the fireworks frightened her, and her heart gave out. It is possible to have a cat survive FL for a number of years with diligent care. Good Luck to this family.

@@urmom-od2fg I was at work when it happened, I cannot prove which kid was the culprit, so I never pursued the matter, I had so much to do, daughter and Mom were in the hospital and I had to bury my sweet baby. She was buried at my parent's home.

My baby girl frisky had feline leukemia. She had a litter of kittens and wasn't doing too well and neither were the kittens and that's when the vet told us she and the kittens had feline leukemia. They all passed.

Once they have FeLV, there's no recovery from that. It's just a matter of time before his symptoms worsen, and he passes away. I've been fortunate---all cats I've ever had were tested and none have ever had anything so devastating. They were all vaccinated too. (Jan Griffiths).

I wish I had these vets near me 😭 I just picked up my two cats from getting fixed this morning. Sassys spay went okay and she got medicine there and sent home with her and we paid for my male cat Shredder to have it as well with his and he was never administered it they said they didn't have the request of medication with him when we clearly said yes, who wouldn't?? Also put the wrong breed information on the paperwork, they got their ages wrong when we told them what they was already 😂😭😭 it was jus terrible

Here in the US feline leukemia is prevalent. I had a cat with feline leukemia. Sophie was such a sweet girl. Her sister Princess didn't have it nor did their mother but Sophie did. I had to send Sophie to the Rainbow Bridge when she was 3 years old. Princess lived to be 20 years old.

No, they don’t. I believe you’re thinking of FIV. FeLV is a death sentence within four years typically.

I took in a stray who turned out to have feline Aids & Leukemia too. He was the absolute sweetest most angelic cat I have ever owned. I had to let him go as the Leukemia started to ravage his system, he also developed skin cancer. I really feel for this lady having been in the same boat. It's devastating to say the least. So glad the other kitty did not have it.

Don't know when this video was made but FELV is not as contagious as was once thought. It is mainly passed through deep bites. It is advisable to keep FELV positive cats indoors and not let them road free. In Coco's case, he was allowed out but on a leash so the chances of him coming into contact with other cats was remote. I also thought Chantelle could have been vaccinated against it and only seperated from her brother for the required period of time (2 weeks after 1st vaccination and 2 weeks after 2nd vaccination). Many FELV cats have gone on to live normal lives. The ones most at risk from succumbing to it are strays and ferals.

Untrue. While it is less contagious than previously thought, FeLV has a lot of complications. Even indoor cats will not typically make it past 4-5 yrs.

If they get it later in life, they can make it longer than as a kitten. My girl Monarch was a kitten when it was discovered. Unfortunately she made it after her first birthday before a heart murmur led to congestive heart failure taking her three years ago. Miss you Mon. Long may you reign!

OMG 8% poor, poor kitty how is he even as good as he seems to be. oh no, Leukemia. very teary. not freakin fair!!! i just lost my 17 y.o. kitty. he was really sympatico. it’s very devastating. i have two sister kitties, but like Chantelle, they are not so cuddly and always want to “escape” after a few minutes. So sad. My 3 cats were all negative for FeLV, and got vaccinated against it. FeLV and Feline AIDS are 2 of the most devastating feline diseases. The vaccine will not help a cat that tests positive though. Another horrible disease is FIP. There is a vaccine for that too, but has less than 65% effectiveness. Always have any new cats tested and vaccinated before bringing them home. (Jan Griffiths).

Unfortunately feline leukemia isn't that rare here in the States. White cats are very prone to it. The vaccine is very hit or miss unless it's been improved in the last few years. We vaccinated all of ours but one (5 total) several years ago and lost all but the one that wasn't vaccinated to leukemia. That one lived into his 20's. I really hope the vaccine has gotten better...

If she was vaccinated for it, it would take some time for the body to produce antibodies. It’s the same with humans. So she could still get it before the antibodies are present.

If he’s only gonna live for a couple of days and then it probably wouldn’t have had time for her to build antibodies against the disease. And as we all have learned in the last couple of years, vaccines at their best are 80 to 90% effective. So there’s no guarantee that vaccinated and we have time for antibody building, that she wouldn’t have contracted the disease in very close quarters.

felv positive cats can live for a fair long while after infection with good care, though i'm not sure it'd help coco since it was discovered late as for chantel, it takes awhile for antibodies to form and with how coco was coco would likely be dead by then hell, it wasn't even until i first saw this old clip did i learn that there was a vaccine(wouldn't have helped my friend's cat avoid the raccoons but she'd have been a less sickly cat)

Our dog was like a brother to me. When he died I cried really bad for a week. I'm also a Christian, but I do not believe in eternal souls. When you die, you die. Animals and humans. I make no difference with pets. Our dog, as mentioned, was like a brother to me, he was like a sibling. We included him in almost everything. He wasn't expected to survive, could only move his head for months until he started to walk again. He shouldn't have done that according to the vets. But he did. These crying moments aren't put up for the show or staged. They are real. You just can't fake emotions like this.
