Hello! Sarah. First of all, I really appreciate your help because I really want your help. I have a question, please : l have read a rule in a grammar book that says: " progressive and simple tenses are sometimes both possible, with a slight difference of emphasis : Harry has been working/has worked in the same job for thirty years. " I need to know what this emphasis is if we use either tense?? And thank you in a advance, Sarah.

Hi Arwa, as in your previous comment. The present perfect simple usually focuses on the result of the activity in some way, and the present perfect continuous usually focuses on the activity itself in some way.

May I ask you something the future continuous and the future simple are the same in terms of the meaning ?? so if I say I will study English , or I will be studying English at 8 A.M o’clock are these two sentences have the same meaning ?
@oxfordenglishnow Жыл бұрын
Hi Abood, when you use a continuous tense it implies that something happens over a period of time and emphasises that. I hope that helps!

Hello, Sarah ! It's me again with urgent questions 🥺. I have read in a grammar book that : " sometimes we choose the simple perfect tense rather than the continuous form to emphasise that something isn't short-term. Simple: I 've worked here most of my life. (I.e. long time) Continuous: I've been working here for just a few days. (I.e. short-term) " Taking that rule in consideration, how can I explain to my students this sentence: " I've been living here for 60 years." I hope you can answer me . I am waiting for your answer and thank you in a advance.

Hello Sarah! How are you doing? I hope you're doing great. I have two questions, please and I would be so thankful if I had an accurate answer. I have been studying the difference between the tenses recently and I have a question related to the tenses. The first question is : what is the difference between these two sentences and which one seems the best grammar choice and why? "Your wife has rang for about 20 minutes . " Your wife has been ringing for about 20 minutes " . The second question is: In this sentence:" My parents have lived in Bristol all their years " Does that mean that they still live in Bristol or they moved ?? Normally I know if the action is sill ongoing with the SIMPLE present perfect if we have for or since, but here in this sentence, we don't have neither "for" nor "since" that's why I got confused by "all their years" . Could you please clarify these two questions to me separately. Thank you in a advance, Sarah.

Hi Arwa, in your first question, the second sentence is correct. Then for your second question, the sentence is not correct English. It would be correct to say, "My parents have lived in Bristol for a long time." I am very happy to help with short questions but if you need more detailed help, I suggest you join me on patreon at: www.patreon.com/oxfordenglishnow I hope that helps!
