I am from the USA, and I would first like to say how much I enjoy this channel, The Oxford Society, and th very insightful, but very controled way you all discuss these matters with your guests. Here in the US, debate has truly died. Instead it has degenerated into intransigence, with both sides of our political system resorting to name calling and other personal attacks, rather than trying to work together and resolve a particular issue. Its utterly childish. I am 56, I worked in the intelligence side of federal law enforcement for 22 years, and since the second Bush administration, we basically have not had a truly functioning government and it's gotten worse not better. Almost as soon a Obama was elected, the two political parties threw away reason, and intellectual discussion on issues, and adopted a childish stance of disagreeing, and not working together simply over political affiliation. The Republicans would not cooperate with the Democrats and vice versa, no matter how critical the issue. The same happened under the Trump administration and continues under the current Biden administration. Through these last three administrations true democracy and real debate has virtually died. Neither side will work with the other. And based on my background I have often considered the idea that this situation has been engineered by foreign governments hostile to Western, and particularly, American democracy and ideologies. Western democratic governments , by virtue of needing to stand for elections on a regular basis, tend to focus on short term, while the world's dictatorships like Russia, China and others do not have to worry about re-election, so they can focus on very long term plans. And I firmly believe the dictatorships have been, long term, doing their level best to disrupt western democratic nation's political systems and processes and also western alliances. What keeps democracy, in any country, alive is debate and a willingness to compromise. No solution to a problem is ever perfect, but in the past, different political parties were willing to sit at the table, and focus on the needs of the population and forge a working functional government and working solutions. To make matters worse, for myriad reasons, the people of the world's democracies have forgotten that at their very core, the world's dictatorships want to see democracy fail and will do whatever it takes to make that happen. Putin's invasion of the free, independent, sovereign, and democratic nation of Ukraine, has been galvanizing for the democracies, it has woken them from their reveries, and made them realize if democracy as a thriving political system is going to survive, it's time to put aside childish and petty ideas and work together. And for those apologists out there for countries like Iran , North Korea and others, the world is seriously concerned about a world superpower pushing the nuclear button, there is no possible way that Iran or North Korea should ever have any nuclear capabilities whatsoever. Just imagine what would happen if they do have nuclear capabilities. Keep up the great videos on this channel, you give me hope that democracy can still work in the modern age.

Russian media is running Tucker Carlson as supporting the Russian side in the Ukraine war as we listen to this discussion. You may want to say MSNBC is just as bad. I disagree. MSNBC's opinion talkers are based on reality. Fox's are not. No comment on CNN. But I read the same things as MSNBC on ABC, CBS and PBS/NPR. They all aren't biased. In July 2020 Justice Warby from the Queen's Bench Division of the British High Court of Justice ordered Steele to pay damages to Aven and Fridman who Steele claimed had delivered "large amounts of illicit cash" to Vladimir Putin when Putin was deputy mayor of St. Petersburg. Judge Warby said the claim was "demonstrably false" and awarded the damages to compensate "for the loss of autonomy, distress and reputational damage caused by the breaches of duty". The judge stated that Steele's dossier also inaccurately claimed that Aven and Fridman provided foreign policy advice to Putin

Yep🖒. The proxy wars, deliberate outside interference with & destabilization of sovereign territories, the formation/training/ arming & funding of terrorist groups & replacement of elected leaders with western directed puppets. The stage managed & choreographed disingenuous moral outrage of the west, having deliberately turned a blind eye towards, & chosen NOT to report any of the above (almost numberless) atrocities committed by the West (principally the US & UK) is both laughable & obscene. Appalling hypocrisy by the western leaders & their lying lapdog/attack dog media. These terrible conflicts should never be bolstered by the "pick a side, any side" (& it better be the RIGHT one) mentality, but, sadly, TRUTH is always the first casualty of every war. MY loyalties lie with the brutalized, terrorized, innocent, ORDINARY people, who just want it all to STOP. There are always atrocities, casualties & war crimes committed by BOTH sides, & when & wherever a situation deteriorates into open conflict, the saturation of propaganda permeates the perceptual cognition & societal ethos of all involved. There IS no valid-"but THEY started it!" because the ordinary person has no apprehension whatsoever of what may, or may not be the truth. They certainly ain't gonna get it from the politicians or mainstream media of those involved, or ANY outside party with a potential vested interest in the outcome. I just hope & pray that it ALL ends soon. I refuse to cheerlead for ANY of the human carnage.

What favour? You mean the facts the Russia interfered in the 2016 to favour Trump is a pro Clinton fact?
@bobrobson33972 жыл бұрын
@Dominic Pelle: If that WAS true (& I make no statement or commitment to affirm nor decry it, I don't frikkin' know?), why then, didn't killary & the democrats go down THAT legitimate road, instead of having steele, some Russian drunkard, Schiff, Comey & the rest of 'em cook up an entirely fictitious plot, belatedly proven to be so, DESPITE the media's best efforts to lie it into accepted provenance. I'm not challenging or opposing you or the notion you present in any personally "offended" or combative manner, I'm just confused about why, if the used car-salesman WAS & could be SHOWN to be a Russian asset & placeholder, killary's crew went with the bullshit tales of a drunk & discredited British "liar for hire" that even with the full backing & might of the legacy media, couldn't be made credible enough to succeed? Or did they consider it to be a case of "we believe it to be true in substance, but we DON'T have the "dirt", so we'll INVENT it!"? Could you provide me with the sources, references, statements, individuals & data/information that SHOW trumpet to clearly be a Russian asset, for my own investigation? My request is respectful & sincere, & I'm NOT shouting-"PROVE IT THEN!!" in a confrontational manner, I honestly would like to further investigate ALL sides, data & claims in an impartial, impassive & impersonal way to get as close to the bottom of this as is possible. Thanks.
