My mom always used salt, garlic powder, onion powder and dredged in seasoned flour. She would fry them first cook, brown them. Then switch them to a large pot season again and add water, dash of milk.A stick of damn butter 🧈 and then add cabbage, carrots and potatoes. They where in perfect gravy as she would then over a bed of rice.I watched my mom do this at least once a month for 35 years.Everyone prepares them differently but these oxtails was the absolute best. The meat would literally fall off the bone. The stories my dad told during our oxtail dinner use to make us laugh laugh laugh. In that 2 bed room 1 bathroom house we lived,we lived so happy back then.We had nothing but we had each other and that was more than enough….Mom is in Heaven now serving up some heart warming amazing dishes….

That whole oxtail must’ve cost a fortune! Oxtail is so expensive, even to buy a few pieces of it. When my dad was young his family used to eat oxtail soup all the time because at the time people didn’t really use it so it was cheap and plentiful. He used to complain about it because they ate it all the time. Now oxtail is expensive and we hardly get to eat oxtail soup 😂

@@Hengel_Andrews I'm far from 90 and I remember when it was that cheap. It's only expensive now because of people like the guy in the video. The main people that bought and ate it for eons with no issues, have now been priced out from eating it. Why ? Again thanks to people that look like the dude in the video. It was practically free at one point , now you'd be lucky to find even a decent amount from the prices they're now charging for it.

@@glizzyap4912 yes, but most people think white Americans started eating it and that's why the demand went up hence why they keep saying gentrification. People fomenting oxtail was food for the slaves. Because rich folks simply wanted the meat that is easy to prepare and didn’t take much time ti cook. Why would they eat a tail of an animal where they could afford cow’s prime parts?! It doesn’t take away, however, from the fact oxtail is a nutrients dense part of a cow primarily because it has so much collagen which is incredibly good for your gut health, joints, hair, skin. Majority of people have no clue how to prepare oxtail and usually it’s time consuming unless you use a pressure cooker. Many find is repulsive food and find it appealing to eat a tail of the animal where they can buy ribeye or a porterhouse steak. So, still relatively low demand for oxtail, inability to comprehend its deliciousness and nutritional value and not knowing what to do with unappealing part of cow keep the price high. Chefs preparing it at their restaurants and selling it for big bucks make people curious. They try it, like it but think it must be an expensive delicacy since they assume it could only be made by chefs.

Originally a slave food. Post emancipation, African-American continued to eat it because it's what they knew, was affordable, and tasty. Once it was discovered that African-Americans consume said product, prices go up. This is the history of most " southern delicacies" in Western civilization. Same as for chitterlings. Look up that price.
