If you have welding / heating /brazing to do - you can get a propper oxy/ acet set from hobbyweld works out about £200 to get the cylinders (NO YEARLY RENTAL CHARGE) - the gauges torch you can get second hand off of ebay of a new set is £120 - it works out MUCH cheaper in the long run for the gas if you are doing a rebuild - contray to what you have been told - it is NOT illegal to have them at home in your workshop obviously you need a fire extinguisher and the gas data sheets displayed in your garage / workshop - I have had mine for the last 20 years - I don't use them much now for welding mainly heating up rusted bolts etc - but a life saver

I think it's closer to £300 now for the deposit/ first fill, if buying new regs and torch, close to £500 why are those little oxygen cylinders so expensive?

Thank you for demonstrating this kit. I now know FOR SURE that I will need a "proper" welding set-up for my intended use! ;)

Thanks Steve this has been extremely useful. Man I miss the use of oxyacetylene, there's nothing like it but this looks to be a good second best for the hobby user. I've taken up silversmithing and I have just bought a professional jewellers torch that runs on LPG but it's a million miles away from acetylene and some of my work requires pinpoint control of intense heat for a very short duration. Silver solder for jewellery comes in a range of melting temperatures from around 750 to around 810 degrees C which is fine, but silver is the best thermal conductor and even with these relatively low temperature solders a reasonable lump of silver sucks the LPG heat away making it very difficult to work with. Thanks for a good, practical demonstration, you've set me off in the right direction. I've found one company that does a rent free high pressure oxygen bottle option. Regards . . . Andy

It can't be compared to a full size oxy acetylene tourch but it is fine for use at home and if you want to get something red hot in a confined space.

Really good review Steve. I think these are a great idea. I first saw one in my local car parts shop. My first thought was for heating up bolts, I seem to do a lot of that with my MAP gas on my old bus. The smaller flame would stop my heart rate going up when things catch fire! I have seen a lot of guys welding lead and would love to learn that. Many thanks for the help

I'm just away to use my Oxyturbo set 90 for the first time as soon as I finish watching this upload. I would have used the Rothenberger Roxy PlusI I had also bought but they decided to sell me a set where the connectors don't fit the bottles of gas and oxygen they come with (via Machine Mart). I have the same problem with the flint lighters they come with that you highlighted. What's wrong with a cigarette lighter? Nothing, as you demonstrated. Thanks for a really useful upload. 🙂

Hi Steve, thanks for the review, just what I was looking for. You might be better off with TIG, I have a R-Tech DC TIG welder 160 amp which I find isn't that far removed from gas welding and I find much more controllable than MIG. You obviously still need gas, but a big bottle of gas is much more affordable than those little bottles.

interesting that you actually welded rather than brazed. Even with mapp gas, I was unaware that was a possibility as only ever used it once to do some brazing. As for cost, it is like most things, uneconomic for heavy use, OK for one off jobs, but you then need to have practised a lot before tackling your actual job or you may as well just pay a workshop to do it for you in the first place.

If you have a factory unit you should be able to get full size bottles from BOC they will last much longer.

hi Steve i also got one of those oxyturbo sets, the 110. but today i started using it and the oxygen bottle was empty after just 20 minutes with a normal flame... i was wondering what is your experience with the time you can keep a flame with these bottles? i think the one i got was like at least half empty already, because i have another mini set with CFH bottles and with those i could keep a normal flame for at least an hour

ooh i see you say in your video you used it for 5 half days O.o that should be far more that just 1 hour right?

Hi yes the oxygen bottles are what let this product down. I think your correct you got a bottle that was leaking it should last longer than 20mins

@@StevesConsul i found out on the official Oxyturbo website they say the oxygen bottles last about 30 mins with a 80L flow

I bought one of these it's a brilliant piece of kit, but the oxygen is eye wateringly expensive about £30, and only last minutes rather than hours, probably worth investing in a hobby weld bottle and regulator, that will cost around £200 though

I find that on the oxygen valve on top of bottle there is a small sprung plastic part screwed in the back , possibly some sort of pressure valve. This lets oxygen bubble out on mine. If i unscrew the bottle after every use the bottle lasts a lot longer

Great video, I’m thinking about using this for a small (2.5mm - 4mm tee) stainless steel joint, brazing with silverflo 55 and easyflo, would it be up to it?

Will it work with propane and Oxygen?…Those small map gas and oxygen canisters work out really expensive Also have you seen the oxygen hydrogen generators…provides a very hot controllable flame similar to oxy/ acetylene?

Yes that's is what I have found so far but its nice to know I can get something red hot if I need to.
