A knife to me is a tool, the most abused tool I own. I will never go through enough $10 knives to justify a $200 knife. Lose a $10 knife, go buy another one, lose a $200 knife and spend all day looking for it. Being a bit gritty only affects people sitting around flipping it open, not real world users. I agree, if this Ozark trail knife is used for normal pocket knife stuff and not as a fidget toy, it will perform just fine. It's a $10 knife not a work of ART! On a side note, I have a couple of these Ozark trail knives in use and I have found if you put some light oil in the pivot before you start using the knife and don't over tighten the pivot ( trying to get rid of any tiny bit of side play) it will break-in very nice and run smooth.

Yes there are two ways to look at it. 1. It's only ten bucks don't expect much and if you lose it or it goes to shit well you don't have much invested. On the other hand it's ten bucks that could have been put towards a better knife. I have several Chinese knives. Oddly three of them, two civivis and one cjrb that I noticed the liners are rusting which is weird because none of my other knives have that problem and I take good care of all my knives. I have a dozen or so knives in the $100 - $225 range those are the knives that over time I continue to really like and would feel bad if I lost. But yeah it's ten bucks.

You don’t get it Lance English. It IS a ten dollar knife. But we need to raise awareness of the objective truths of this knife and promote discourse in the community to either fix the issues or let Walmart know to fix them. What if Walmart fixed everything and charged $15 for the knife? You wouldn’t want to promote discourse and take that chance? We want knives that work well, regardless of the cost. I don’t want a knife that I can hear fucking breaking everytime I open it. Knives aren’t THAT disposable to me or a lot of knife guys I know. No one wants to use a knife that’s breaking faster than the blade is wearing.

This knfe isn't high quality or even quality. It's exactly what it is a 10 dollar knife. The bearings knurled the liners and that alone takes any quality out of it. For D2 the heat treat is a little above average. After that it goes down hill fast and shows why the price is low.

I've got knives that cost the same or less than this (from Ozark Trail and others) that have lasted for years as daily users/beaters opening foil coffee packets at work, collapsing/cutting up cardboard boxes, opening Amazon packages and all the other odd jobs I run into around the house and at work... I'm not saying they are as good as knives that are $15, $20, $25, or more from budget companies like SRM/Ganzo/Opinel/Victorinox... They aren't. I'm just saying that dismissing knives out of hand because of their price or implying a cheap knife won't last for years (provided you don't abuse it) is short-sighted. Sometimes you get a knife that is good. Sometimes you get something that is junk. As for why people get hyped by these sorts of knives... For what they cost if they're a decent quality beater knife, people feel like they've gotten a bargain. Most people love a bargain. And TBF, most people aren't as picky about knife quality as enthusiasts tend to be. The "average person" just needs a knife that cuts. And assuming the user can sharpen even modestly well, most "cheap knives" will cut and continue to cut for years as long as they aren't abused.

And a $24 Ganzo, Eafengrow or whatever fills the role perfectly. And if it's a couple months before I clean the concrete from the pivot, so be it. I'm not gonna cry over it. Conversely, when it's time to show off my daily carry, I grab the Benchmade, Spyderco or Quiet Carry. I use the right tool for the job.

I don't get the people spending $20. to $30. in gas driving around to every Walmart to buy a $10. knife either. I really don't get those paying $100. to $300. for a knife either. I EDC a $9.97 Kershaw Hotwire assisted opening knife. Razor sharp, small enough to not no it's clipped in my pocket and will poke holes in a kidney or sever a vein if need be. I also have a cheap $15. Chinese Amazon knife that resembles the old school stiletto's sort of. It's heavy, came dull but is now razor sharp. Assisted opening. It had several issues like a burr from a screw hole that wouldn't let the scale seat properly. But I cleaned it up, lived it with microlube. I carry it around the yard when I'm out there just in case. My favorite knife is a Ruike 105B. I can't say enough about the quality of that one. It's a beast. A little on the heavy side and too nice to carry around. The most expensive knife I bought was a SOG Flash 2. That one was $50. lost it at work for a couple of hours and spent time looking for it before an engineer found it and asked if it was mine. That one is razor sharp. The most expensive knife I own I found at the movie theater on top of a toilet paper dispenser. It looked like a cheap knife to me. Turns out it's a Skallywag Blackwater Folder. Runs $200. It doesn't have a scratch on it. Flicks open smoothly. And has an aggressive looking blade. It's D2. I don't like the metal scales. I think that's why it looks like a cheesy knife. I have a thing for finding knives. I found a Swisstech knife in the box, in a Walmart bag, in a cart in the parking lot. I don't know what Walmart sells them for. I wish it had the receipt and I would have returned it. But I gave it to my brother for Christmas. Lol

I took mine apart as soon as I got it home several weeks ago. Absolutely no threadlocker on any of the screws on mine. IMO, this is a nice blade attached to a POS handle. If the blade is off-center, you can apply pressure with your thumbs to the center of the side the blade tip is closest to, while applying pressure to the ends of the scales in the opposite direction ( kind of banana shaped pressure). That will center the blade. But that also demonstrates how flimsy this knife is. I'm tired of hearing "THIS IS AN AMAZING KNIFE, (for the price)." My $19 Ganzo G721 auto in 440c is immensely better, and sturdier, than this OT knife, IMO. It will be around long after this OT has failed.
