You trying to comprehend what the bike is even for is so spot on. I've been racing bikes of all kinds for decades and a gravel bike really throws you off and makes you rethink things. It's burly enough for getting through rough stuff, but fast on pavement to get you from place to place. Obviously, gravel roads are where it excels and you'd think so what, who wants to ride those? But when you do, it's awesome! It's like a destination adventure because you can go far and fast enough to explore and it turns out that gravel roads have nearly no cars and the landscape is really untamed and fun to explore. "Where does that road go? And that one? Can I make it through this? Holy crap I've never seen this before! I didn't know this was out here!" It turns road riding from kinda boring and dangerous into like riding like a kid again. Keep it up!

You're getting the idea fast.🙂 Hands up higher on the hoods and don't lock your elbows out. Let your arms be suspension and stand up to take any big hits with the legs. Hands are meant to be inline with shoulders not stretched wide like mtb. notice your hands are paralell to your body like walking. Once you get used to it you just want to ride longer distances and explore 🙂 Fatter tires will give more comfort and stability of course. Sorry for the long comment🙄

Yeah, dropping the tire pressure and a cheap carbon seatpost will make the ride a ton more comfortable. I run 45s at about 30 psi. If it was me, here's what I'd do: Easy upgrades... Carbon seatpost- flexes when hitting bumps Biggest tires you can fit (tubeless preferably)- smoother ride, more grip Mech/hydro brakes Bigger investments... 1x drivetrain- I think you got this covered, but Microshift advent is a great deal Wheelset- freehub instead of freewheel, wider tubeless for bigger tires and puncture protection Carbon fork- cut a ton of weight and absorb bumps better. Looking forward to the progress on this bike!

For neck pain, try actively dropping your shoulders while riding. I notice that when I’m tired, I rely on my shoulders instead of my core to keep my body up. As mentioned earlier, lower your PSI by 10-15 PSI. Silca has a great tire pressure calculator that made my gravel bike much more enjoyable. Still not a fan of drop bars, especially in chunky terrain, but gravel bikes are great for green and blue trails, and add variability in your riding.

If you're on the shorter end of 5'1” to 5'9", you may want to shorten the stem to get a little more upright for comfort. It's been a few years since I rode on a gravel bike, but I did like the Maxxis Ramblers or Ravager for more grip on the tires. For seatpost, take a look at the PNW Coast suspension seatpost. I put one of those on my uncle's bike and it gave him a more comfortable ride.

Chicken Sendies upgraded his with a Bolany suspension fork made specifically for gravel bikes. Haven’t seen the actual test yet. That bike in green trails is calling for clipless pedals. It can be done safely and you will be able to pedal much faster with them. On another note, that G.1 could be a great bike to take down the 34.3 mile Virginia Creeper Trail. There is a shuttle you can take from Abingdon to White Top Station. From there it’s mostly down hill or flat until the last 8 miles that have a very slight incline. I did it on an MTB and hit over 20MPH on the steepest sections.

Great video man but it's growing pains. You're a mountain biker so you're used to suspension, shorter stem, riser ,wider bars. I bought an XC bike and hated the flat bars and longer stem. I felt like I was reaching out and leaning down, hated it. Swapped it out to a shorter stem and some riser bars and it did the trick.

I have got to tell you guys I have been super tempted to buy myself one of these, I think what this bike really needs is an H bar set up. We as mountain bikers would be more comfortable, we could install normal gear, changers triggers. We can install the hydraulic brakes were used to, and still have the nice glide ability of a road bike. Those gum wall tires really catch my attention. The color of the frameis pretty much the best color ever.

About the pain in your neck … When I bought my first gravel bike I felt great discomfort and raised my stem. It made it worse. It took a whole lot of testing and researching and retesting to find out that A my drop bars were to wide and B to high up. Measured my shoulders, went for a 38 and dropped the stem and I’m all good now. I come from mtb too and going narrower and lower wasn’t even on my mind but it was my fix. When it comes to the drops you can go for a wider drop if that’s what you want for control. I just love being tucked in even in my drops now and have great control even if it gets technical. Experiment and you will eventually find the right setup. When it comes to crank length 165 is favourable if you like rougher terrain. I love 165 but ride with 172.5 now and it’s great too. You’re an mtb guy and you will eventually take that bike out on trails … just can’t help it😂 So you’ll eventually be grateful for the shorter cranks, trust me. Love you guys. Keep up the good work. 😊

If you’re getting neck pain, try to make sure your back is straight and your arms are bent. If that’s not a helping enough, try moving the saddle back a bit. It may seem counterintuitive to do that, but it’s possible there’s too much weight on your hands. Moving the saddle back will shift weight away from your hands and more toward your pelvis and your feet. After experimenting with that, THEN you might consider getting a stem with more rise if you’re still experiencing neck/shoulder pain (or flip the stem you have if it’s currently sloping downward). Always start with the saddle position. It usually helps a lot, and it doesn’t require purchasing another stem. It’s also what professionals bike fitters start with when it comes to fitting a rider. Saddle height and setback first, everything else second.

I was tempted and purchased one. I had to make adjustments to the steering, stem was not aligned with the front wheel.Rear derailleur was not shifting properly, i adjusted the cable. Brakes need adjusting too, havent done that yet, not difficult to do. I bought the medium size frame, Im 5’8” and it fits perfect. 50 psi is too much for a gravel bike, try 30-35, it smoothes out the bumps. Havent taken it out on gravel yet, cant wait!!! Thanks for the great video wolfman

Every year, there will be guys in the 200 mile gravel races, on MTB's Mid-fat, Fat bikes, I saw a cruiser a few years ago, but after just a few climbs, it's obvious that the road style gravel bikes are much faster, more efficient, and they absolutely dominate. Comfort-wise, I agree with you, but gravel riding is more of a distance challenge, It's not for everyone,

12:15 when i started road biking I noticed that same neck pain. I think it has to do with like you said, posture. On my janky parts bin road bike I'm sprawled out more and bent forward more and I really noticed how bad my neck hurt after doing a 20 mile ride. Another issue I had was hand numbness, again with being stretched out and putting alot of pressure on my hands they would go numb pretty easily. I ended up taking off my 70mm stem and replaced it with a regular 35mm mtb stem. I also ended up cutting my bars from 760mm to 720mm since I'm using just some regular mtb straight bars with some generic ergon short horn grips.

If they made this a 1x8 like they had with the schwinn axum, I would have bought this in a heartbeat. The 2x7 really put me off to it. Seems like a good jack of all trades (master of none) bike. I recommended these to my parents as they go camping a lot and seem like a great option for a budget "bike around the campsite" bike.

you might want to go flat bar on that. if you never see yourself using the drops, all you want is a couple hand positions to mix it up for comfort. you should feel like you are sitting down in it vs riding on top of it. you can probably get away with 35psi even with tubes. i’ve been using 50s with only a chevron pattern for tread. i am not a knobby fan.

Maybe try out a 35mm long stem or a stem with some rise to it. Kalloy Uno makes 35 degree angle stems in 70+ mm length. The thing about drop bar bikes is they always come with long stems and the hoods are even farther than the actual handlebar clamp, so you're really hunched over. People say shorter stems ruin the handling of drop bars, but I've never really had an issue. It would be worth a try to help your back and neck out.

I am in the proces taking 22:19 my daughters flat bar road bike and make it gravel compatibable . I got some gravel tires . They are 32c which is as big as i want to go . The stem was fairly long so i am shortening that up . I am thinking about adding a stem suspension just to lessen that arm snd and hand chatter . They do make flatbar gravel bikes . That maybe an interesting upgrade to compare . You should easily be able to get 10mph average speed . So maybe try a flat bar change with maybe a suspension stem . I also think you can takevthe pressure down to 30 on the front . So maybe it woulf ne interesting taking a hybrid bike amd transform it into a gravel bike . Tire type and style is key and then compare to this bike

best gravel upgrade is the brooks b17 leather seat. Really start to have seat issues and associated soreness at the 25+ mile mark even in padded shorts starts to become a problem if you're going for distance. Also remember that if you're 7.5 mile away from the truck if the bike breaks down its 2 hours and 20 mins of walking at about 3 miles per hour to get that far. $120 or so for the seat but they last a lifetime after you break it in, like a horse saddle. Really interested in seeing how far you ride, your nutrition picks for long rides and what seat you end up with if you guys can find a good budget option. Also wider bars and flare your elbows outwards to breath and catch your breath like how ppl put their hands over their head but can also pinch your elbows and arms together lean all the way forward arms resting on the bars its a very aerodynamic recovery position. going wider on the bars over a long distance is a lot of wind you end up fighting against. lots of upgrade considerations all depends on your riding style and goals. good points

Also, I am wondering if I might prefer a 650b (27.5) wheel size over the 700c (29) which came stock on my bike. With a 700c, I believe the biggest tires they make are 50mm for gravel/allroad. With 650b you can get into bigger sizes like you were mentioning 55mm/2.2”, which I feel may help with a tiny bit more tire suspension haha. My biggest gripe is the lack of wheel upgrades for QR gravel wheels. Since most serious gravel bikes are going to 12mm thru axles, that means most upgrade wheelsets are 12mm thru axles. I have been considering swapping out my rear hub for something with better engagement since my WTB rims are fine as is.

A shorter stem and/or one with more angle can make a big difference if you aren’t used to riding g a drop bar. Though that stem looks like it’s already pretty short. It also helps to relax your shoulders and keep your elbows slightly bent. If you lock your arms out it’ll cause those neck issues.
@bikdav

Flip the stem so it angles the handlebars upwards. That might get rid of the painful "bent over" position. You also may want to change the seatclamp from quick release to a fixed clamp.

If you want more of a planted feel air down some. I know you are pretty light so 50psi is probably better for road/smooth trails. Something like 30 or 40 could be better for ya on gravel. For shorter crank arms you need to learn how to spin more and reach higher cadences, that's always been my experience with 170's or 165's. I haven't done much gravel riding, but riding like this is better to enjoy more as a training ride for me via cardio and speed. That's how I have fun with a bike like this. All about speed. Oh, and try and get used to the bars for a bit. I agree with other posters in that try other positions on the bars. I like the hooks, tops, drops, and hoods. Tops for climbing/cruising, hooks for semi easy riding/options, hoods for braking/general riding, and drops for descending/ sprinting. Just air down the tires some, obviously for road only run high psi, but on that type of terrain you want a little squish for the tire to deform with the trail like a mtb tire. Oh, and try braking in the drops if you want more leverage. Maybe it's just me but I only feel triceps when on drop bar bikes, but I have more arm bend when riding to get more room for my chest/breathing.

Because of the price point, I think 2 by is the way to go. It’s 2 by drivetrain is roughly equivalent to a 10-12 speed 1 by system, which I doubt is even remotely possible to spec at that price point. I see the appeal of 1 by, but 2 by has its place for sure when it comes to finding the perfect cadence.

So I have brakes up on the top bar. Looks like the bars might need to be turned down a bit. It might help with the feel on the hoods. I'm really glad you're enjoying different riding. Making this a 1 by would probably require a different wheel with a freehub. I think leaving it a 2 by but upgrade to a MegaRange freewheel with a 34t granny would be better bang for buck. You're not wrong about grip when going fast but 23mph on gravel is pretty fast, it would fly on pavement.

The saddle you like on a mtb might not work on a drop bar bike. Because there is different weight distribution over the bike. I tried to put my mtb saddle on it and didnt like it. Wider bars might help with stability but they will make your reach different too.

from my experience riding, you may be fishtailing because most of your weight is going forward, meaning your geometry is off, think your bars need to come up a tiny bit, and adjust the seat accordingly. and that may be a little to much air, you want air but not to where you're bouncing off gravel, just gotta find that fine line between comfort and rolling resistance 🤘

You have to pick up the speed and the gravel will feel smoother. Gotta hit that sweet spot.

You say about lines …. MTBers have got lazy with front suspension being the norm, imagine doing MTB on a fully rigid steel bike, it was normal until probably about 1998. You did learn to read the terrain and pick your lines and you had to be able to do it at speed. You should try a rigid MTB , you will be slower and you will feel much more beaten up after a ride, but it will make you a better rider and kinder on your equipment in the long run.

For max comfort and stability change the wheels to 27.5 with 2.2 tires. These will have around the same overall diameter as standard set up. Woohoo Monster Gravel drop bar machine 🤣

Work on those neck muscles. I lay on my back on a bed with my head hanging off with no head support. Make big circles with your head clockwise then switch to counter. It only takes a few minutes every morning before your feet hit the floor.

Does it say on the frame anywhere, where the bike is built? For me to come down from Canada to pick one up it matters. If it's built in Canada, US or Mexico I don't pay customs. If I understand correctly. If it's a China bike, the customs fees make it not so much of a interesting option.

I hated drop bars. I didn't like a straight bar gravel bike either. A lot of gravel riders are starting to put a small "gravel" suspension fork now.

Your handlebars are tilted way too far back. The bottom of the bar should be more level with the ground and the hoods (horns) should also be more parallel with the ground.

Maybe not, looking at pictures of the bike it looks like the drop bars don’t sweep as much as a lot of other bars, however I think they are still up too far. Also with your hands on the hoods (horns) it’s typical to use one finger towards the top of the lever, as long as the brakes are grabbing good you shouldn’t need much leverage.
