What is ozempic injection
Ozempic or wegovy, is a prescription designed to treat Type 2 diabetes, and its getting lots of attention for one of its side effects, weight loss. Because spoiler alert, it does cause weight loss. And With over 320 million views on tiktok just on ozempic, this has caused many people who don’t have diabetes to use it as an off-label for weight loss, Causing the FDA to classify ozempic and wegovy injections of semaglutide underneath a shortage.
Semaglutide weight loss
Semaglutide is an injectable glucagon-like peptide-1 Agonist, or short for (GLP-1) agonist that’s administered once a week. It was originally approved in 2017 under the brand name ozempic to control blood sugar in type 2 diabetes. So the manufacturer wanted to study semaglutide in people who didnt have diabetes, at a higher dose, to see if they can find any weight loss benefits. And what you know, novo nordisk, the manufacturer, got their product, semaglutide FDA approved for weight loss under a new brand name called Wegovy.
Wegovy weight loss
Wegovy is ideally made for adults whose BMI’s are greater or equal to 30 or 27 with at least one of the following conditions. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, or having diabetes.
Semaglutide mechanism of action.
Ozempic and wegovy are glp-1 receptor agonists. They mimic a natural hormone in the body called incretin. The job of incretin is to lower your blood sugar by triggering insulin release and blocking sugar production. And interestingly, they also slow down how quickly food leaves your stomach, which is called gastric emptying.
Semaglutide weight loss how it works
Not only does it lower your appetite, it curbs those feelings of hunger and also lowers the amount of food you eat.
Ozempic dose adjustment and ozempic injection how to use
Wegovy is available as a single-use injection pen. So basically, This means that your dose is already pre-set for you, and you can discard the pen after you inject it, which is once a week on the same day of each week, and it doesnt matter what time of day, or if you want it with or without food.
Wegovy 2.4
You'll notice that Wegovy, is available in slightly higher doses, you got: 0.25 mg, 0.5, 1.0 mg, 1.7, and 2.4 mg pens, each in different colored pens to help you keep track how far are you are. Ozempic is available in 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, and 1.0 mg pens. Both of them start at the same amount of 0.25 weekly, and then gradually increase every month, the only difference is that with wegovy, you ramp up to a higher sustained dose of semaglutide at 2.4 mg per week.
What are the side effects of ozempic injection
Every month as your dose gradually increases, your chances of experiencing side effects increases as well. For some, reaching that target dose of 1 mg or 2.4 mg can be difficult and your doctor may want to slow things down by waiting another month before they increase your dose just because the side effects can be quite really annoying. Like burping more frequently, nausea, having constipation or diarrhea, headache, dizziness, and feeling bloated.
Wegovy foods
To get the most results on ozempic, wegovy, mounjaro, or even saxenda, if you want to be super successful with these, you want to create and eat a healthy and balanced diet. Some foods to avoid include: your fried foods, foods and drinks high in sugar, processed foods, and of course fried foods. So try to increase your protein rich foods, your vitamin rich fruits and vegetables, and your whole grains.
Wegovy how long
Wegovy starts working right after you inject a dose and as far weight loss, you may see the results within the first 4 weeks because it has to take some time to build up in your system. I mean, the study looked at it over a 68-week period, and found that an average of 35 lbs, or about 14.9%% of body weight was lost compared to placebo, which volunteers only lost 6 lbs roughly 2.4% of their weight with placebo.

I had tried a few months before when I had United healthcare and they wouldn’t approve it until I tried another ineffective drug that I can’t recall the name of. The little secrets that I've learned throughout the years that makes a difference: 1 - Like the Dr said, CHEW SLOWLY. 2 - Drink a cup of water first thing in the morning. (Hot, room temperature or cold) 3 - Drink green tea 2x a day (Hot or Cold) (preferably after a meal) 4 - Avoid sugary drinks. These 4 alone work miracles! Any form of exercise will be the cherry on top.

@@jackki6869 from what I understand (nurse not doctor) it actually curbs your appetite and you also don’t crave sugar and carbs (which are quick ways to raise blood sugar). This mock hormone are what some people are lacking, therefore they tend to crave those things. @@rhondadbush exactly. They make money making people obese and make money selling weight loss medications. It is unfortunate that manufacturers can not maintain inventory due to these medications being in such high demand. I see comments that some viewers believe it is unfair for those to use the medications for vanity as a way of weightloss. However, you may not be aware of the ever increasing reports of people being prescribed these medications for weightloss due to metabolic disorders/syndromes, autoimmune disorders, preventative measures for those that are borderline i.e. diabetic high cholesterol etc or for currently diagnosed conditions such as diabetes.

Thank you so much for the last parts of this video explaining and advice on better and continuing weight loss during and after Ozempic. I was up to 1.0 and have lost 28 lbs and a perfect AIC! But at that dosage I was having horrible side effects. So my doctor took me off Ozempic for 6 weeks for my digestion to rest and heal. Now I'm back on Ozempic, starting over at .25 dosage. I was loosing weight at the .5 dosage and great AIC without major side effects so I will go up to that dosage and stay there. SO in me saying all of this, I have not watched any video where it talks about people who already have IBS, CROHN'S, GASTRITIS, HIATAL HERNIA, Any other digestive system issues... Will ABSOLUTELY have worse issues with taking Ozempic or Wegovy. That's what happened to me. I can handle Ozempic .5 dosage, but not going higher. I got such bad digestive system side effects on 1.0 that I couldn't leave my house. So this needs to be addressed in videos too for digestive sensitive people. Thank you again for this video 👍😊

I've been told by my doctor that the higher amounts you can lose more weight but I'm happy with the slow steady weight loss other than having such severe digestive issues I couldn't even leave the house. It would be wonderful if everyone could get this who needed it but right now the people who have diabetes are in need of it more. It's a shame that they didn't think about this prior to putting it out as a weight loss drug and other drugs like this are having the same issue. I am type 2 diabetic and thank God I have been able to find the doses that I need of the medication that I'm on but in the meantime it is very difficult for others who are in need of it because of diabetes. They should have thought about this ahead of time made overproduction of the drug so that this wouldn't have happened. I can't believe that they as a company didn't think of this knowing that the United States has the highest obesity that there is in the world. They need to start producing this in huge amounts to be able to get it to the people who need it whether it be for diabetes or weight loss. But for people like the Kardashians who are using it as a prop for their show should not be able to have it if their BMI is not off the chart. And they aren't the only celebs that are doing this. And because they have money that they can just throw away unlike a normal person they're scarfing up all of it and none is left for those who are truly in need.

I've been on Ozempic for about 6 months, 44 lbs lost so far. It's such a catch 22 being on this drug. You're supposed to eat a balanced healthy diet but you don't feel like eating anything and everything tastes different than it used to and not in a good way. Therefore, it's very hard to develop new habits that will stick with you when you are no longer taking the medication. Learning to eat slow is the best advise I've heard so far. I have about 60 lbs to lose yet but I'm for sure going to start eating slower right now.

I have pcos and therefore I have an insulin resistance. I’ve been on ozempic since March 2021, I started at 317, my highest weight ever. I’ve since lost 110lbs. The weight melted off for like the first 40lbs then it slowed down but I’m not complaining because I don’t have any loose skin although things are sagging more than they used to but I chalk that up to not being my current weight in over a decade and with me being 33 now. I’m 60lbs away from my goal weight. Throughout the time I’ve been on ozempic, I’ve experienced nausea here and there but never actually threw up, the gag reflex is insane though, it’s very problematic when I brush my teeth. There’s been plenty of diarrhea as well but I blame that on the metformin, once I changed to delayed release it improved but it’s still present. All in all, finding an endocrinologist has changed my life. I have 99 problems but gaining weight with the inability to lose it due to insulin resistance ain’t 1.

@@fatimarauf5465 so my insurance (Medicaid) stopped covering ozempic in the fall so I’ve been off of it for some months now, I never reached my ideal weight, I had about 50lbs to go, but I’ve gained about 50lbs back and I don’t attribute it to stopping ozempic per se, I just attribute it to pcos because this was a problem I already had that led to me being prescribed ozempic in the first place. As far as reversal, no, it didn’t reverse it at all HOWEVER, since stopping it, I can say it definitely helped everything else work better. I’m still on birth control and Metformin and before I went to my first endocrinologist appt, I hadn’t had a period in nearly a year. My periods came back. Since being off ozempic, they’ve stopped, even with birth control. Again, I was already having this problem before ozempic so I don’t blame it. I have hirsutism as well and while I was on ozempic, it started thinning and the growth slowed down. The only downside was that since the hair was fine, it struggled to pierce through the skin so I’d get ingrowns but learned to manage them. Now, the hair is thick again. My appetite returned with a vengeance, that’s been my biggest problem. But I’ve been on phentermine for a few months now and am only just now starting to feel a slight decrease in appetite, no extra energy or anything. All in all, I highly recommend giving ozempic a try. Just get some nausea drops or tablets, take some type of fiber to keep things as solid as you can, and the gag reflex will be whatever it will be, it took months for it to go away after I stopped. Weight loss is fast the first few months but slows down and in my opinion it’s better that way because you’re not buying new clothes every month. As soon as I have better insurance, I’ll be getting right back on it.

My sugar levels are controlled and I continue to lose weight so my Dr. and I decided to keep me on the .25 dosage. I was so relieved because of the side effects. I try to go for a 45min-1hr walk 3-4 times a week. Otherwise, I am not doing anything different in my daily routine. I am sure I would have a lot faster results if I was pushing myself with exercise. However, I am not really interested in that. I live in the Swiss Alps and the walking that I do is enough for me. I wish everyone well on their journey to better health!

Glad my sister in law told me about ozempic n I mentioned to my doctor. Been wondering why she never mentioned. Definitely a life changer.

For me, it worked to knock of 20 more pounds after losing 40 pounds. However, my kidney numbers went way out of whack. I stopped wegovy and within a month, my kidney numbers are almost back to normal. My clue to investigate metabolic panel was fatigue. My doc was sure it was depression until the blood tests came back. So be careful and watch your own symptoms.

I just started Wegovy today. I did Saxsenda for a month leading up to this and had decent results. I started at 6’1” 346lbs and in a month I’m down to 332. I’ve been big my entire life, no one could understand why. My parents average size, my sister average size. I weighed 75lbs going into kindergarten, 220lbs by 8th grade 330 by senior year. I’m bigger an taller than everyone in my family both sides. Only thing i ever read that made any kind of sense was a medical article that said if you take a lot of antibiotics before the age of 2 you destroy gut biome and people who did grew taller and bigger than average. While at 9 months i had a form of meningitis and was hospitalized for a few months taking a lot of antibiotics. I never ate fast food, my parents didn’t buy us soda, all home cooked meals… idk i always felt like i was dealt a bad hand.

I’ve been taking Ozempic for about 6 months now, and this month is the first month I’ve ever had a problem getting my hands on it. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see. This is one of those drugs where it might work for some, and might not for others, but it has worked for me, with very few side effects. My doctor started me out at .25, and steadily increased me every 4 weeks, and I’m currently on the 2mg dose. The 2mg dose is the only dosage I’ve had a slight issue with, and I compare it to morning sickness. (My youngest is 20, but you still recall vividly what morning sickness is like😂) it’s manageable, and I get through it, because I’ve lost over 50 pounds with Ozempic. I was pre diabetic when I started, and extremely overweight. My thyroid was off the charts, and my blood pressure was way too high. Along with some thyroid medication, my thyroid is now normal, I’ve been able to get off of my BP medication, and I’m no longer pre diabetic, and 50 pounds lighter. With any life style change I guess, it does help to drink water, make decent food choices, and physical activity. I’ve decreased my water intake with the change in seasons, and I can tell a huge difference. I work in the garden during the summer, and would drink water like it was going out of style, and the weight literally just melted off, but now that I’m not working outside anymore, and not drinking the water, it has slowed. I know what I need to do to get it back on track. However, I have not been able to get my Ozempic this month, and have no idea when I will, so I’m going to try to do the best I can without it. Good luck, everyone!

I hope for you, we are able to get the medication back as it has helped you weight wise and with you pre-diabetes. You can always ask your physician about alternative injectable pens that are out there. I have had to do that for my father who is 69 and a type 2 diabetic. He is also obese and in the long run, it has helped him loose roughly about 20-30 pounds since starting it earlier this year. And have your doctor reach out to your insurance company to make sure it is covered before going to the pharmacy and hearing the news that it's not covered. Hope this helps some and keep your chin up, you're on your way to success!

At 26 weeks on Ozempic (the first 4 on .25, then on .5 ever since), I've lost nearly 45 lbs, bringing me back to my pre-pandemic weight (I gained a lot after starting an SSRI). The bulk of this happened in the first 20 weeks and things have slowed down since, especially because I fell victim to the shortage just before Thanksgiving 😂. The fatigue has caused me to resist exercise. However, my diet has changed because I just actually get full now, which it felt like I didn't before. I may up my dose to get myself to a "healthy" weight range (I was technically overweight before the pandemic), but this stuff is really great. Side effects can be tough sometimes, but if you're really struggling with chronic hunger or any kind of insulin resistance, it's worth exploring this.

I'm type 2 diabetic. What ozembic does is cut your appetite . I can still eat,eat eat. Some people get an awful full filling, stomach aches, vomiting. I don't have any side effects. Sometimes a really full feeling. I do believe if you stop taking it. You can differently gain weight fast because you don't have anything to stop your hungry. I've been told . Don't eat unless you are hungry. Some people just want to taste food and so you eat as normal. You do eat less at every meal for sure.

My experience. 1st six weeks lost 40 pounds but i was so fatigued, i stopped my regular exercise routine and just did nothing, barely went to work. Nauseous all day, poor sleep. If i ate i felt worse, if i ate poorly like fried food i wouldnt be able to function until i had diarrhea. I didnt function but i lost a load of weight. I lost weight in the beginning because i couldnt eat. Now 10 weeks in, i am eating larger amounts so i can work and do normal activities . My weight lose has significantly slowed down. Im still eating very strictly with terrible digestion problems. 4 days of water diarrhea and the worst sulphur burps every 30 seconds. Sleep is terrible and sometimes during the day im so exhausted i question if im going to have to make some drastic lifestyle chages to deal with it. Its depressing telling your kid not today i feel crappy. Im starting to exercise again. 10 miles every 3 days on my exerise bike and daily walks with my dog. Its amazing to watch my sugars drop and my mental state improves aswell. I think exercise is the key to battling the side effects. The consant battle with eating makes me want to stop all together. So i did for 3 days. The first day was horrible. Bad headache and complete lethargy. By the middle of the second day i regained some desire to do stuff and by the third day i felt incredible. i broke my fast with a french toast turkey sandwich and i felt horrible. I could make a list of more agreeable foods but i really wanted the french toast . Im looking forward to loosing another 40 pounds which will put me at my target weight and hopefully my diabetes will be more easily controlled. In December my doctor put me on insulin, my sugars where 25 to 35. My 3 month was 12. He called me 4 weeks later and told me i no longer need insulin as my pancreas is producing insulin again. My sugars now jump from 5 to 10 and rsrely go to 12. Im happy to say i went out yesterday to get me and my 2 kids ski clothing and am super excited to go skiing next weekend. My 14 year old wants to work out with me. I asked him to let me do the cardio alone. Its my time to meditste too, but we set up the weights and i look forward to working out with him. Im really hopeful and i dont really care what side effects ozempic gives, i am getting my life back. Being over weight is horrible it robs me of so much

I work in a hospital pharmacy, and it is kind of around, but it's so unreliable that a lot of pharmacies will say it isn't rather than screw people around. We can place back orders with the supplier and they do occasionally get fulfilled, but we don't know when they will arrive so we can't guarantee supply. It's super frustrating :( are you in Melbourne? There's a pharmacy doing a compounded version of it, but it isn't covered by the PBS in that form so it's very expensive.

I totally fixed my stomach problems when I bought a case of Gas-X at Costco. I also have lost 40 pounds. Any time I feel even a twinge of stomach pain, I take a couple of Gas X and problem solved! Try it, I was miserable for the first 4 months until I figured out what works for me

I switched from one type (Moundjaro) to Ozempic. Ins wouldn’t cover M - for my understanding (and experience now that I’m up to 1 mg) the first month doesn’t do much except make sure you don’t have an allergy or really bad side effects. You’ll notice more as your dosage goes up

I live in Australia and am a diabetic. I find it interesting that those that take ozempic then stop find their hunger increase. Because this is what I have been forced into with the shortages here. Really they need to ramp up supply of this drug. Sometimes I can get lucky and find some ozempic but the problem I now is my blood sugar goes up and down as one month I have it, the next I don't. So I risk taking too much insulin or not enough insulin. I'm at a point where I really need to talk seriously to my endocrinologist about giving up on ozempic because of it.

Novo Nordsik has halted supply to Australia, and is ramping up production capacity and plans to supply again in January with April or May being the estimate when it will be easy to obtain again for both diabetics and non diabetics. The recommendation right now from most pharmacists is to alter your medication in the mean time with help of your GP or specialists and sign up for waitlists at pharmacies in your area

@@mkaylagomez1959 Thank you for your response. Novo Nordisk entering the ozempic market will help I'm sure. I just hope it goes straight onto the pbs. I have done better with my blood sugar this week so I'm happy about that. It really does help having some idea of when the shortage will end.

I started Wegovy a month and. Half a ago. I lost 15 lbs in three weeks on the .25. I’ve been off of it two weeks due to it being out of stock but my appetite hasn’t returned. BUT I’ve been on a health journey for almost a decade so I already had healthy habits and I work out 3-4 days a week. I’m hoping I can maintain the 15 lb weight loss until I get my next doses.

To loose weight; 1) eat a diet of around 2000 cals/day. 2) work out, until you're sweaty, 3-4x/week, for 30-45 mins. This should do the trick. BTW, no pop/soda, no bread, and no fried food. Do this for 3 months and you'll loose 20-30 lbs.

Great informative video Doc! Can you use Ozempic or Wegovy while on a ketogenic diet? I have many chronic conditions, autoimmune, osteoarthritis, chronic pain the list goes on. I've gained so much weight in the past 3 yrs. I'm only 42 yrs old but feel so old with all these aliments. Any advice on if either of these can safely be used while on a ketogenic lifestyle would be greatly appreciated 🙏 I've just started Keto this week.

Greetings! I just wanted to say, Thank you for your detailed explanation of the injections. I've watched other Doctors and didn't comprehend anything. I think the most important part of it is the lifestyle change that we all must make. I've pondered back and forth on getting a mommy makeover but then I realized I have to at least try to do the work first before I run to a plastic surgeon. And the long term effects of MMO is what scares me. Thanks again Doc.
