All of which were the symbols of rulers on the SMP who believed their reign would last forever, only to have their power taken from them. I really love the detail of how, in Sad-ist’s animatics, even in moments where Wilbur is drawn to be antagonistic or menacing, his eyes are still shown with what seems to be some deep weary and sorrowful sense. It really gives the depiction of Wilbur both taking this antagonist role, but also being a man who’s lost everything, including his hope, and fell into the pits of despair.

As someone who is an English major, this is by far my favorite SAD-ist animation. Not the all the others aren’t great. But this one captures the all the characters perfectly in even smaller snapshots. Each line of the poem and the heart beat were excellently timed. By far, I will never NOT get chills when I see the scene when he said “My name is Ozymandias, King of kings”. Everything about that sort was perfect. Also I’m a liiiiittle tired of seeing people bring up the allegations on fancontrnt from before 2/22/24 and/or c!wilbur. First, it’s highly disrespectful to whoever made the fancontent. Second: C!wilbur is a fictional character. His whole story is about (1) how someone can be demonized for mental illness and YET (2) how mental illness is not an excuse for mistreating others and everyone needs to be held accountable for their actions (IE: the true apology arc). Considering how neither of these, especially the second one, is in line with cc!william and all he does, it’s pretty clear that the CC wrote a story with such themes because he knew they would appeal to audiences- THEORETICALLY. I think it’s likely but obviously I can’t psychoanalyze some British man I barely know. Even if Cc!William actually believed in his character’s themes, though, nothing would change. He would just be a person who can’t practice what he preaches. So he had bad intentions with the c!wilbur storyline, MAYBE, but the themes are still true. The story wouldn’t have worked otherwise.

That switch from Techno looking at the statue to looking at the grid of death is so ominous, I love it. Showing that, even while Wilbur is gone, the shattered loop of his unfinished symphony continues to repeat itself. It’s etched into the trauma of the ‘kings’ of the server, all unaware that they are still carrying out the will of Ozymandias, king of kings.

I don't understand, can you explain it to me, please?
@thesilvercondor68353 жыл бұрын
@@Leemon692 (i tried my best but its now a short manifesto sorry,, hopefully it actually answers your question lol) Basically, L'Manberg was meant to stand for freedom and unity. Then Wilbur went mad, and decided that if he didn't get a happy ending, no one else was allowed to have one either, and blew L'Manberg up. This essentially set the 'unfinished symphony' back to the start- just a group of friends, wanting to start a country, running from those in power. The loop began. This has affected the other people in power; they've seen L'Manberg fall, and they no longer trust it to be their happy ending. They try to find different ways to get their happy ending, but every time it ends up continuing the loop. Dream wants control. Predictability. He tried to give L'Manberg its independance. Schlatt tried to infringe on SMP land while he was in power, but the rebellion stopped him-! Except, they didn't. Wilbur blew up the nation, shattering alliances further. Bringing more unpredictability. So Dream decides to stop L'Manberg from wreaking more chaos, by blowing it up. He continues the loop. Technoblade wants anarchy, freedom. He trusted his teammates to get rid of Schlatt, but they replaced one tyrant with another. Could it have turned out ok? Perhaps. But the country was blown up, and all Techno knows is that he was betrayed. And, that blowing up countries is an awfully good way to get rid of governments, so he does it again. The loop continues. Nikki wants the death to stop. L'Manberg keeps blowing up, and she's had enough of the fighting. If she gets rid of the founders, maybe the country will stop coming back. She tries to get rid of them by blowing them up, getting rid of everything they care about. If L'Manberg comes back... well, she won't let it (just like Dream before the first L'Manberg). The loop continues. Eret wants to be with their friends, but they also want power. They can have it in the SMP- but L'Manberg was always doomed to fail. They'll ensure the SMP survives, even if that means getting rid of L'Manberg. (just like Dream before the first L'Manberg). The loop continues. They're all making sure L'Manberg, his L'Manberg, his great unfinished symphony, is never finished. Making sure no one else gets their happy endings, even if they don't mean to do so. Carrying out what Wilbur wanted- and when he returns, he calls Dream 'his hero' for doing so. L'Manberg is gone, and he's so proud of everyone for keeping it that way. Kings, all of them. And yet, they did exactly what Wilbur wanted. Wilbur, king of kings.

This feels like Techno telling the story of an encounter he had with a very broken and once again, willingly this time, exiled Tommy, recounting his reflections of a power infested Wilbur. Like long after Wilbur dies again, he spends his days traveling, and one day runs into a Lonely Techno blade, still yet to die, but a life that long tends to blur the memories. He doesn’t even realize it’s Tommy that he’s talking to, it’s been so long. And Tommy, trauma ridden and exhausting himself looking for a way out, will tell the tale to anyone that will listen, regardless of weather or not they’ve heard it, or lived it before.

Honestly, coming back to this after over analyzing it in English class makes it hit so much differently! Especially now that I know of the meta irony of this poem. Considering that Ozymandias is just the Greek name for Rameses the great, and we know litreally everything that the ancient Egyptians knew about him, its ironic that his namesake is used in a poem about great men being forgotten over time. This really fits with Wilburs character as well, since even though the things he built are now a crater he will not be forgotten. I also loved how you took the original message of the poem that power and glory fade over time to Wilburs power and works being undone and overshadowed by those around him.

This is less on the Dream SMP and more on the poem itself. I just felt the need to put this down somewhere. When I first heard Ozymandias from this video, I immediately went to read it so I could properly understand the work. Unlike many others, I didn't read it as a tale of futility that mulled over the power of time to wear away anything. Instead, I saw the empty desert itself as his Works that the Mighty should despair over. I saw the poetic figure of Ozymandias not as a great ruler who tragically lost a seemingly timeless empire to the inevitable erosion of everything, but as a man who sowed a kind of tragedy and destruction to a land that would last far after he could continue to mock the Mighty that failed to stop him. I don't know if there is anything to take from this interpretation except a cold horror, but that is what I have taken nonetheless. Anyway, on the actual video: amazing job. I don't know much about the Dream SMP, but I can tell how much time, effort, and heart went into this.
