I had these in Shreveport,La., with my Brother about 25 years ago, the little restaurant we stopped at was a Mom and Pop restaurant, I ask him if he would show me how he did this, he was so kind and let me go in his kitchen and taught me his recipe and showed me how to cook them. , he was about 70 yrs old and was so proud to teach me, because I was in love with them, I bought a dozen to go.. and he also gave me tips on how to reheat them, in a hot oven about 5 minutes, and they taste just like they just came out of the deep fryer.., so glad your making and sharing., God Bless

Those look so delicious! Very similar to what my honorary grandmother called "fried poofs". She made an enriched dough for cinnamon rolls, but she would always take a portion of the dough and set aside to make the fried poofs while we waited for the cinnamon rolls to rise and bake. She would roll the dough into a rope about an inch in diameter, perhaps a little more. Then she'd cut the rope into short pieces about the same length as the diameter of the rope. Drop those in hot oil and roll in cinnamon sugar after removing from the oil.

I don't do deep fry foods, but definitely going to try this dough for cinnamon rolls or just plain rolls with honey butter 😋

I don't think I have your patience Tom, but I love watching you make them. My daughter is observing and she is going to give it a go. They love their Newfoundland fried dough called Toutons. It was passed on by the Irish that settled in parts of Nl years ago. Its served with molasses. She will try next time with your honey butter. Anyway it was fun to watch and they certainly look delicious. Thank you

Hi Tom and Melissa ! While I have heard of yeast rolls, I hadn't ever heard of a fried dinner roll before. Looking forward to trying these !

Hey Tom and Melissa! I just bought your cookbook. It was fun to see you in Northern Virginia...where I live! We do have several Great American chain restaurants and they all serve Ozzie Rolls, but I don't think they're something that is typically associated with NOVA. Did you see J.T. at Wolftrap? It's such a great venue!

I was waiting for Tom to rave about the wonders of Wolftrap! But I also love that he so enjoyed the bread at Patsy's. I'm definitely a fan of the community bread basket at any one of the Great American restaurants (Sweet Water Tavern is my particular favorite)

Oh yeah! Love them Ozzie rolls. It’s quite the process though, but worth it, I’m sure. Tom, do you deliver? 🤣 Seeing James Taylor in concert is on my bucket list, too. Preferably with Carol King! I love her, too. Happy Halloween week, everyone! 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Tom, those Ozzie rolls did look delicious. I have had something like that before that the Africans make on my job and they’re called Mandazi rolls so delicious also.
