He should do traumatic ads, in the 90's and 2000's Canada had so many traumatic ads, mostly aimed at kids. I'm pretty sure I was scarred for life after watching the, "why be you, when you can be me." Ad, yeesh

I think the Thailand one was suppose to be the opposite of racist. A guy put in effort to go out of his was to make a child happy, but the mom was scared of the appearance. He does it a lot because he's a good guy. They compared that to an ugly looking product, saying appearances are deceiving because the product is good.

I think you're right. Sometimes meaning can get lost in translation and us Westerners have a tendency to think things are racist when they really aren't. Like Dragon Ball's Mr. Popo or Pokemon's Jynx. Anime in particular is a goldmine

As a middle-aged man and father the anti-speeding one horrified me but I know as a teenager I would have thought that was the funniest freaking thing I'd ever seen. Ozzy Man, the anti-speeding ad is from Northern Ireland. During the eighties and nineties our road safety ads were much more graphic and visceral than the Republic or Ireland or Great Britain. The feeling was that the experience of "The Troubles" had inured us to violence; it took more to shock us unfortunately 😕. Some were worse than this.

The Aussie ad I liked the best was one from W.A. where some working guys were loading up an old flatbed truck with Emu Bitter beer; they were wearing the "Aussie 3-piece suit," i.e. shorts, beater & thongs, and had obviously been working their butts off & had a bit of a thirst. They got the truck loaded to the top with cases of beer, ready to go back to the station, when one of them said, "Oy, what about the shielas? Better grab a bottle of plonk!" So they went back into the pub, came out with one half-bottle of wine, put it on the truck- and the truck collapsed! First time I saw that ad, I laughed so hard I almost dropped my beer!

I think that ant video went way over Ozzy Man's head. She actually laid down so the ants would crawl on her. Shes smiling because it's working. Then she was waiting until they got to a certain spot, then told the ant eater to sick them. It makes the whole commercial a lot more 🤣

Prob just a British thing but we had an Ad removed over here in the early 90s because t upset too many people. BT was laying underground phone cables and somebody was looking in to see if they could bury their dad in the hole. The whole idea was that BT was sharing their roadworks and welcomed anybody to do work whilst the roads were dug up.

Ozzyman I can’t believe I ran into a generation gap about the Antz Pantz ad! I’m disappointed there was no bugger dog ads for Toyota. But the biggest omission was the 1980’s grim reaper ads. Admittedly you’re too young to remember them but they shaped the attitudes toward sex for the entire country of a certain age (teens).

Oh to be an echidna in the 80's. Eating ants off of hot women in underwear. Those were the days. P.S- That Thai ad wasn't racist. At least not by their cultural standards. The message was don't judge by someone's appearance, i.e don't stereotype. Especially since this probably was the 90's or early 2000's, when this discrimination was way higher. The amber alert ad has the same message. Don't be deceived just because it's a woman. Women are predators too. Appearances can be deceiving.

The panty liner add was so so funny at the time. Sadly you had wowzers back then complaining that men should not be talking about womens products. There was another one about tampons, men talking about which type the women in their lives prefer, it got ripped off the air pretty quick, again old lady wowzers thinking men should not be involved in lady issues. Those adds were breakthroughs at the time. Men need to be involved to understand their women better.

In W.A. they had a pad commercial where some good looking shiela apparently had just killed her boyfriend, and there was a pool of blood on the hardwood floor as we heard police sirens approaching. What a misconception regarding the toothpaste... So they produced brown toothpaste which could seem weird, unusual (20 years ago), just plain bad and they personified it with a "brown" man which was perceived bad, weird, plain bad by the girl's mom. We know what the situation really was. Many balloons just show this is genuinely great person that helped a lot in the past just perceived incorrectly - like a brown toothpaste could be perceived. So the bottom line: Brown man = great, brown toothpaste = also great :)
