It is true that " Once Sivaji Rasigan is always a Sivaji Rasigan". I do not know how many times I saw the movie and how many times heard the songs of the movie. The meeting scene of Karnan with his mother was a classic performance where everyone wept in the theatre. Every part of the movie in the digital form is very grand and beautiful. Sixty years ago such an epical movie was produced with the best of stars in the southern cinema industry .🌹👍

The publicity given for the movie was great.But commercially did not do well.I was closex to the the film world.I was a student doing college at that time.Saw the movie in Sayani theatre Madras.Unforgettable.Later when i was at the top in Government in Delhi,requested for a special show for the PM.For Mr.PVN.He knew Tamil.

Interestingly, this all-time classic movie commercially bombed when it was released, on the same date as MGR’s huge hit, Kaavalkaaran. As time passed, the timelessness of Karnan movie songs, played and re-played on AIR, was becoming increasingly appreciated/understood across TN. Likewise, the film that launched ILAYARAJA, Annakili, also had a miserable first week before people fell in love with the songs making the film a hit and launching a musical genius amongst us.

The one that actually surpassed all the so-called "brahmaandam" is CHANDRALEKHA (1948) directed and produced by the legendary S. S. Vasan. To some extent, Maya Bazaar, Sampoorna Ramayanam, Gulebagaavali, Ali Babavum 40 ThirudargaLum and Malai KaLLan also. Karnan was a well-made movie, but not a "magnum opus" when compared to the ones above.

Karanan was a very good movie. DOn't compare it to Bahubali or any other HUge movies. Bahubali had the "One of the biggest "world buildng", Huge vision, Graphics, fantastic photgraphy, exemplary production value and never matched until today.
