The waterpump and bypass valve (n75) are notorious for failing prematurely on the 1.4 twinchargers. The spark plugs often have a pretty short lifespan too. Great engine when everything's working...

I have a VW Tiguan 1.4TSI 118kw (Turbo and supercharged) and I noticed a rattling in the engine compartment. Notified VW service center of this when it went in for it's service (they greased the fan belt afterwords). The rattling noise went away after the car had warmed up after 10 mins. A week of driving passed and the rattling started to become a screech, the car went into limp mode and the engine light came on. I drove the car to the service center and when I arrived I noticed water pissing out and the mechanic told me it's a water pump failure. Adding to your story- my car had some power up until 3000rpm, the limiter is then activated and the car loses power. I am unable to hear the turbo working, the super charger still boosts lower revs as normal. Car is currently in for repairs, hopefully there isn't a turbo failure as well, my hopes are that the turbo won't kick in since the car is in limp mode.

So the waterpump pulley which is mated to the supercharger pulley broke- apparently the clutch in between the two broke. Long story short, Engine light came on due to supercharger not working. Waterpump was replaced and all is good!

To my knowledge the ECU in this engine uses a CAN protocol. If so how are you able to find the Magnetic Clutch Adaption from the Settings menu without first choosing a Group Number? VCDS offers no guidance on which Group Number to choose. They expect you to guess the correct answer

Morning,got a similar problem replaced the pump about 3 times now and just replaced it again, noticed a rattling sound on starting acceleration but goes away. Could my supercharger maybe faulty causing the water pumps to give in so quick?noticed the sound in the previous water pump and that one lasted a week. This pump is form a different supplier though. You'd be better emptying first. You will lose all the coolant out of the engine and most out the radiator. It's a good time to renew the coolant anyway. Use genuine vw audi coolant only! Otherwise you will have other issues potentially in the future.

Hi I have changed the water pump. Now the car won't start. It cranks and sounds like it doesn't have compression. checked the compression , it was very low 25psi. Evening mate, I have vcds with unlimited vins, plugged it in to do the adaptation but the system is not displaying any IDE, just generic basic settings labels but not IDE----- lambda sensor, it will just show as lambda sensor. Any idea whats going on? Cheers, love the content.

Hello, My engine (1.4 TSI 160 CAVD) started making noise like broken fan or something from the water pump area. I can also hear a squeaky mouse noises for 0.5 - 1.0 sec when i move on. That would be water pump? The Engine was regenerated with timing chain, but possibly without new pump Like other said in comments i feel like car haven't power below 3k rpm. And i have also one more question. I have the car with manual transmission and the question is... If you do a downshift with "rev matching" is this safe for this engine (water pump clutch) / supercharger or even whole engine? Because by doing revmatching you activating supercharger all the time, right? Please, answer me. I would like to post links to the videos, but i can't do this in this comment, don't know why ( Im really sorry for my bad english)

Water pump bearings fail and cause this noise. Replace the pump. You can take the belt off and feel the free play in the bearings, and spin the pulley and here/feel how rough it is. This is a common issue.

I have this same problem on a 1.4tsi Scirocco 3; but I don't have VCDS or have anyone with VCDS that I know of. Can the basic settings be done with the ODIS software and cable? I know an Audi guy who uses this software.

Yes odis is the factory tool so will be able to carry out the basic settings. As long as the odis isn't dealer locked to Audi that is.

@@johnhorgan5313 thanks, you hit the nail. Yes, fuse 21 was blowing off every time it was changed. I found that the reason was a faulty/shorted magnetic clutch of the water pump. A few months ago I got it changed as I also needed to chain my timing chain (4th chain this car has).

Hi FRA. I just got P10A9 Magnetic Clutch - Stuck NIL on my 2011 CAVD Golf 1.4tsi Twincharge. Looks like I still got boost from supercharger, but sometimes feels jerky especially if boost on 2000-2400rpm (feels on-off-on-off). If boosted over 3000rpm (turbo boost only?) it is smooth. Anyway I will change waterpump. After changing waterpump.....the adaptation of magnetic clutch in Basic Setting.....is it should be done with engine OFF (only ignition on) or engine ON ? Assaliz Auto Parts hi my son didn’t bring the car back to me to do more testing , I mark the belt when stationary and drove it , recheck and it move , but I thought the clutch was engaged until about 3000rpm , then disengage when the turbo kicked in , he said the car drives ok , so didn’t follow it up , tried to adapt it but came up with safety error

Never used Delphi. I'm a VW Audi specialist so I use VCDS and Odis. When I work on any of the other brands I do like BMW, Mercedes, Land Rover, Porsche, I use the factory scan tools.

Potentially wear the electromagnetic clutch out faster. They say to do it so it probably should be done even if it does work as is.

Yes, at first I got the error too. I tried a few things and eventually I was able to do the adaptation. You should make sure all the doors/hood/trunk are closed. When you want to do the adaptation you'll have start the engine and follow the instructions on vcds, fully press the brake & throttle.

Drove it. It should only move when the compressor is engaged. You can load them up stationary or slow rolling and watch too. Bit to be honest, mark it amd drive it ajd it shouldn't end up where it started.

it depends how you press the gas. if you’re a slow driver you wont feel a sudden boost, only if you put a lil bit of gas then the supercharger engages.

Well the part is like $450 AUD here in Australia, and it's around a 4 hour job from memory. So could easily be close to $1000 aud when you take this into account and g13 genuine coolant being almost $40 per bottle and needing 2 of them to fill the system. 450 parts, 80 coolant, 4 hours labor could be between 400 and 600 depending on labour rate (or 800+ if going to the dealer). So yeah, 1000 would be absolutely around the ballpark.
