These tours are some of my favorite content of ANY planty channel! It's super helpful to see how different plants grow in SO many different environments with different lighting, humidity, etc.. I get tons of helpful tips along the way! ❤😊

The haters are out today! These videos are meant to expose the general public to what are interesting plants and how different collectors are managing/maintaining their plants. Jimmy, the moderator, is letting the collectors express themselves in their own way. He is not imposing his format. I am enjoying these videos; they are chock full of information. I hope Jimmy continues to provide us with interesting videos like this one.

I wonder if it’s just the Albo that turns brown due to the excess water. My Thai has water on the leaves sometimes and they haven’t browned

I’m surprised too see the mature Strawberry Shake, idk it looks like a Variegated Dark Lord? Very Beautiful an great Albo tips. 😀💚

the name "strawberry shake" is marketing, its not a patented hybrid, so there is that.
@PlantFriendDownTheStreet3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sherry! A strawberry shake is a variegated philodendron red emerald, which is the red form of philodendron erubescens, which I believe is also the species that gives us the Pink Princess! Philodendron dark lord is actually a philodendron hybrid of unknown parentage that was “discovered” back in the 1970’s, but it’s suspected that philodendron erubescens is one of the parents! I love plant genealogy, I think it’s so interesting.

@@PlantFriendDownTheStreet people pay a thousand dollars for a variegated erubescens? I'm not loling, I swear. I think pink princess is probably an erubesscens too, but not a very good specimen, it grows really leggy, not an attractive plant at all as far as I'm concerned.
@PlantFriendDownTheStreet3 жыл бұрын
@@notverynotoriousg5674 yep! It’s kind of nuts how people will ascribe value to things, right? I guess, like almost anything, things are kind of worth whatever people are willing to pay for them 🤷🏼♀️. I think strawberry shakes are kind of becoming an “it” plant right now so my guess is the prices are going to go up for a bit and then come down. What I’m seeing on the market is that the best profit margin on shakes is for reverted ones bc I guess people are willing to pay low triple digits for the chance to have a strawberry shake but not mid-high triple digits to have a nice one… just like with the PPP, I wouldn’t be surprised if the market is saturated with less than stellar specimens and then the plant gets a bad reputation and then falls in popularity. I also agree with your pink princess point though… I think that the popularity of this plant really kind of ruined the cultivar because of the rush to mass produce and capitalize. A lot of the TC pink princesses are just not up to par with the specimens that can be traced back to the original hybrid (christy shows a really spectacular, mature PPP in one of the videos on the memorial tour). The trends of the plant markets are really interesting because it’s one of the few markets where the inventory can self replicate in perpetuity! Even if strawberry shakes fall out of popularity, there are still going to be folks who genuinely appreciate them. Even though a lot of these plants in the series are for my business, it’s hard not to get attached! 🤣

Is goo-tate the actual word for the secretion? I see mine do it all the time but it's grown outdoors in my beautiful Florida and I don't notice any issues from the gootation?
@PlantFriendDownTheStreet3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes, the technical term for plants excreting excess moisture through their leaves is “guttation”. I’m not actually sure if using it as a verb is correct or not, and if guttation is just the fluid that is secreted. I’ll have to look into, thanks for raising that point! Plant nerds unite!
