Someone commented the same thing. All of the designer pothos that you showed we're all actually philodendron Brazil which is cheap and easily available, or philodendron Rio which was once cheap and easily available at big box stores right next to pothos. Rio has been around for years and the plant trend just Jack'd up the prices
@notverynotoriousg56743 жыл бұрын
I thought I had seen everything, and then I got to see idiots paying thousands of dollars for a jungle weed. All of the "designer" p. hederaceum are from sports of "brasil", most if not all are from gabriella plants, and gabriella plants themselves used to sell them for p. brasil prices.
@kathybrintlinger99933 жыл бұрын
I thought the philodendron rio was exclusive to Gabriella’s plants online. They’re supposed to have exclusive rights to it or something? I have never heard of them being in big box stores. Of course the Brazil has been everywhere. Prices are beginning to come down.
@notverynotoriousg56743 жыл бұрын
@@kathybrintlinger9993 Gabriella's has tried to control the hysteria, but Brasil will sport and people will take advantage of it. Now they are charging something like 1500 themselves for the Gabby and can't keep up. They will issue you a nice card that says you bought it from them, but its a sport, and you can't patent a sport, this is all marketing, and I'm sure Costa Farms is watching and waiting, they have already exploited the sport market at least twice, P "Golden Goddess" and P. "Birkin". I'm pretty sure M. "Thai Constellation" is a sport, the Albo is, all this sport nonsense and greed.
@Laundrification3 жыл бұрын
Also, the fact that they're called "designer" just shows you that it's a rich people club type of thing. Designer bags require artisans to make them. Anyone can grow these, the only reason they're holding value is because of the market hype. It's gross tbh.
@kathybrintlinger99933 жыл бұрын
@@notverynotoriousg5674 I know nothing about whether you can patent a sport. I knew I read something to that effect on their website. I just went back on their site and it does state at the very end of a write up on the rio they’re in the process of obtaining a patent. I purchased 2 over 3 years ago from them when a 4 inch was 40-50$.

Agree way too expensive & the fact some are very easy to propergate, I sometimes think is it greed for the $ that drives sellers in putting big $ on these plants & demand is high. Prices will stay high for as long as someone’s prepared to pay for them. I like the variegated plants. I don’t like how much fussier they are. Not all , but most look like the leaf will crumble if you touch it. Seeing a half eaten leaf for sale doesn’t make me want to buy it or grow it. I guess that’s what will keep some in the rare category. Commercially they are too delicate to sell in regular garden centres or big box stores . Many wouldn’t look good enough before leaving the nurseries 🤔
@Putipuerca3 жыл бұрын
I already purchased most of the pricey plants I wanted on my wishlist or traded for them and I'm done collecting expensive plants for now because I'm gonna wait for all the hype and prices to die down. Too many times I bought something and saw it drop in price a few weeks later. I'm done getting ripped off for juvenile or 1-3 leaf plants. I remember when we could buy so many fully grown plants with 100$. I don't like having allot of plants anyway, only my very favorites. I could never be that person with over 100 plants I think that's insane. Edit: Forgot to mention I was offered a mint variegated adonsonii for a trade deal and I rejected it because I think they look sick and diseased. Hard pass !! Edit: I also get very annoyed when I see people selling fast growing easy to care for plants for outrageous prices. Albo syngonium is a perfect example.
