In some countries the shepherds have donkeys and the donkeys have jacket things that they put the lambs in when going to a new area.

Sweet! Hope it helps. Goats are awesome...lamas are weird and unpredictable (and they don't like you...and you need to lead them...and, and, and...goats are the way to go. The only advantage of llamas is they carry more weight and live longer which is a legit advantage...but spend some time around both and you'll see why I chose goats.

And if you need to pick them up (to weigh, for example) how to do it safely with horned kids (my are 2 mos old and with quite pronounced horns already). I did it fine this time without being hit by horns but there is a possibility of it. Thank you.

I tell people to hold a goat like you would hold a cat support their legs keep them feeling safe and they won’t flail

Its interesting that there's no stigma against declaring yourself a "goat lover" like there is for sheep lovers.

Thinking of doing a bottle fed Dam next cycle to see if itll help her encourage her children to wanna be around us. We have a skittish mom but buckling enjoys me and a doe who comes to me but doeling that'll avoid me like the plague lol. Coming up on year 2 going from 2 to 24 goats. So trying to just spend time like ya said and hopeful the ones not born on my property will start to warm up.

Great info. I won't run after my bucks anymore. They nibble on my clothing like yours did. Does that mean anything?
@PackGoatscom5 жыл бұрын
Hey Kenny, glad you found it helpful! Generally goats are curious creatures and they explore things with their mouths. I wouldn't worry too much about them nibbling clothing and such. Even as adults they 'test' things with their mouths. As long as they have good mineral supply I wouldn't worry.

Hello I got new baby goats and didn’t know about not picking them up. Now they’re just scared and hide or run away all the time. How do i gain trust back?
@topendadventures52475 жыл бұрын
I'd just sit and let them come to you...they will. When they do love them up.
@user-ql8vq5en2w5 жыл бұрын
Top End Adventures How many hours would I have to sit with them? and should it have to be on the ground on the same level as them or it doesn’t matter? Thank you so much! Really appreciate it xx
@PackGoatscom5 жыл бұрын
@@user-ql8vq5en2w They will come over to investigate you and you pet them when they do....Shouldn't take long...so I take it they are dam raised? Same level is nice. If they are dam raised, treats will help as food is how we bond to babies and we use the bottle to establish the connection so peanuts in the shell can be a nice treat. Grain as well.

New to goats...How old should new kids be when you get them if you intend to bottle feed them?
@PackGoatscom6 жыл бұрын
Luke M usually best to bottle feed at 3 days.
@LukeMAXM6 жыл бұрын
What if the breeder says that I can’t pick them up until they are 45 days old? Is that an issue? I plan on getting 3 from Dwite, but I also want to get some large breed animals that aren’t sterile...?? (Not to sell goats, but for hobby breeding)
@PackGoatscom6 жыл бұрын
Luke M The key is that someone bottle feeds them starting early. As long as they do it’s fine. Starting to bottle feed at 45 days can be quite challenging sometimes to get them to accept the bottle.

I am just starting to explore the idea of having goats as a pack animal after finally getting out of horses due to the extreme expense of maintaining them to a good standard of health. If having the choice of purchasing a bottle fed baby or an already weaned dam-raised, which would you recommend? I am not looking to breed at all and can only have 2-3 goats at most so would like purchase 2 x little guys but not their dam.
@PackGoatscom6 жыл бұрын
Jules I’d buy babies from Dwite Sharp. He’s on the site. Packgoats.com
