Packing My Bike In The Scicon AeroComfort & Heading To Majorca 312. Bike Box Or Bag, Which Is Best?

Time to pack up my bag, ready to head to Majorca for the 312!
I've picked up the new Scicon AeroComfort bike bag for my travels this year. In this video, I take a look at the bag, pack it up for the 1st time and cross my fingers that my new S-Works Tarmac SL8 reaches it's destination in one piece!
I also discuss the pro's and cons of using a bike bag, over a bike box.

I travel with the bike box Alan easy fit aero. It is massive, but super quick and easy to pack/unpack. Wouldn’t trust a soft shell with my sworks 7 tarmac.

I've use soft cases for a few years without any issues 🤞. Appreciate the extra protection offered from a hard case though..... 👍

Tip i do is get that orange disc brake spacers when you remove the wheels.

Me and my friend flew to Gran Canaira using these bags after recommendations from fellow club members who've used them for years with no issues. On arrival his left shifter had taken a massive impact and there was brake fluid absolutely everywhere, thankfully a local bike shop fixed it 2 days later... My bike was fine except on the return flight my rear seat stay was completely snapped in half and had to be repaired by a Carbon Repair specialist. BA did pay out for the damage but I sold the bag and went for the Bike Box Alan!

Ah what a nightmare mate.... Really bad that handlers treat bikes in this way.... The rear triangle protection guard on this bag should go some way to prevent the stays issue... When taking the bike onwards to Majorca from Spain, my shifter had also taken a knock but thankfully was OK. I think for my next trip i'll add some extra protection to this part and other areas around the frame. Thanks for watching 👍

Just back from Majorca. 4 bike box Alan aero fit boxes used with 4 lads cycling. All the boxes have dinks, scratches and stuff inside has moved even though it was tied down. They obviously throw bike boxes, bags about behind the scene. Hope all good with your bike on arrival

I’ve used the same case no issues. It’s my stepdads. He’s used it abt 20 flights with zero issues I personally added foam for around the hanger and sides of forks

The new bag looks super compact and light. I suppose the larger/heavier Borson can hold more kit but everything is a trade off as it's like steering an ocean liner 😂 Great price too (relatively 😬) even with the extras. Best of luck tomorrow 👍

I’m thinking of buying the Evoc Road Bike Bag Pro, halfway house between hard and soft bag. Would feel too nervous seeing the soft bags. Have an original Bike Box Alan but need to upgrade due to integrated cockpit.

I like to slightly loosen the shifters that way when they get it, and they will, they will love and not break. I didn't see if you used the brake blocks for transit?

Good luck mate, Is it easy enough to just catch a last minute flight to majorca and rent a decent bike for a few days? I have been toying with the idea for a while! if anyone else can help me out.. hotel reccomendations where to rent a fairly decent bike etc.!!

Thanks mate... Tons of flights to Majorca. Check Skyscanner for the latest prices / times etc... Bike hire is also plentiful as is accommodation... I don't have any specific recommendations, but I'd just check Google mate. You should be able to sort out a trip without any issues. Pollenca and Alcudia is a good shout as a base. It's a fantastic place to ride 👌

I just bought one of these for my move overseas. Terrified to put a 15k bike in it and let airlines handle it tho. Only thing is to decide where for the summer Nice? Mallorca? Thailand?

Thanks for the message - After my last trip I'd definitely recommend the rear frame guard - Scicon also do a lever protector... both worth the extra ££££... Hey, thanks for the message. On this video I attached it to the gopro mount on the underside of my outfront mount... sometimes I use a clamp I bought from Amazon and clamp it to the bars on the drops, to get some nice angles - can also be clamped to the seatpost 👍 Thanks for watching 😎

Hey Dave. I've got the same bag, but the rear triangle protector is new to me. Does it go over the rear derailleur without having to remove it?

Thanks for the message. The frame protector is new I think. It would fit over the mech without taking it off although I bought the mech bag aswell. The protector itself it 2" thick foam with a hard flexible plastic cover. Although not bombproof, I'd say it would provide a decent level of protection in the case of an impact.
