Today we review the SCICON AEROCOMFORT 3.0 Road Bike Travel Bag. I used this bag on our recent travel. Putting a $6k worth road bike inside a soft-shell travel case was a bit scary just thinking about it but happy to say that my bike arrived safe and sound. If you have already purchased the bag stick around because I will show you how to pack your bike and I will give you some tips on how to safely pack your bike. Thank you for watching and God bless you.

I bought this same bag about 6 years ago and have used it a few times with no issues. I would recommend not putting the gear bag inside the bike bag and instead pack it into another checked bag if possible. The reason is that TSA in the US will definitely open up the bike bag and they will likely take out the gear bag out and go through it. This gives them more opportunity to lose things. I had a friend that had a few items missing when he traveled with his bike and ended up having to buy new parts before we could go riding. TSA likely forgot to put them back in the bike carrier when they were done. All I pack in the bike bag is the bike and the wheels. Pedals, tools, shoes, helmet, etc all go in other luggage (don't pack tools in carry-on as they will likely be confiscated). To protect the frame more you can get foam pipe insulation of different sizes at your local home center and use them to wrap the front fork and rear stays. The foam comes pre-split down the length so it's easy to slip on. While not necessary, you could use some zip ties to strap the foam to the stays/forks. If you go that route, bring extras to repack on the way back. Lastly, I loosen the handle bar, rotate it down and then snug it back up. This moves the shifters more out of the way to protect them from impact. Just assume the bag will be dropped along the way at some point so best to move things to areas that will protect them more. Same reason that the rear derailleur should be removed from the frame.

Thank you for this. However, it would’ve been nice to show how you pack the rear derailer and manage the chain back there because that is the hardest part for me.

Sorry that was not shown but what I did was wrap my chain stay and removed the derailleur and taped it in the bottom side of the chainstay to avoid if from scratching the frame and the chain from moving too much. You will need to tape the chain as well to the chainstay after you wrap the chainstay to avoid it from flopping arround. Everything has to be tapped tight and avoid frame damage. Next time I travel I will do a shorts video ☺️

Does the cover not protect the rotors so it’d be safe to leave them on?

Sorry for the late reply. It has some sort of padding or protection but my rotors were still slightly bent so to avoid issues I would take it out still.

@@thequalityadventure I used bubble wrap and foam around pretty much everything and had no issues thankfully :)

Glad that prevented issues for you. The worst thing is the sound of brake rotors rubbing on the pads while riding. I wouldn't risk it any more next time I travel.

That’s a NON approved and NON recommended bike bag. But if you’re CHEAP and ignant, then I suppose it’s ok. 👍

Sorry you had an unpleasant experience with scicon bags but for me, for the price it is worth it. It works as well since I have integrated cables I didn’t have to go through the pain of dissembling or bleeding my brakes. So to each of their own. This is based on my situation, bike setup, and budget. Just sharing my experience and recommendations. Basically as a human we can decide on our own, you would either ultimately use that recommendation or not but you still decide if this fits your needs 😊
