@obiwankenobi687 Жыл бұрын
@@champana02 the show doesn’t actually explicitly confirm or deny it, but the letters are real so they sort of infer it more one way than the other. Eoin used to comfort Paddy, he could talk to him and calm him like nobody else and those semi sort of romantic letters between them exist.

@@obiwankenobi687 Oh wow that is even more well I guess heart-warming and heart-breaking at the same time. I really thought this storyline and character was fictional like this female spy hooking up with Sterling. Overall I am thrilled that the stories are mostly historical accurate. So let’s make it some sadder for you: the matter about paddy being gay is most likely a fabricated, rather baseless myth raised by the show makers and the author. Paddy had a failed romance with a woman prior to the war and was rejected by another in ireland, so he grew to be shy of women

That's the problem with basing a drama on real events. Real people die unexpectedly, especially in wartime. Especially in the SAS. Eoin McGonigal was a real person.

Your almost certainly right , its now an accepted fact by historians that Paddy was gay ( not that it means a bloody thing ) I think it was his shame and guilt that made him such a mad man and had to prove he was scared of no man

Sorry to break it. You know that the thing about paddy being gay is most likely a fabricated, rather baseless myth raised by the show makers and the author? The main argument of the claim is the strong-grown bond between him and his comrades, which is a normal phenomenon. Paddy had a failed romance with a woman prior to the war and was rejected by another in ireland, so he grew to be shy of women
@MikeWilsonn10 ай бұрын
@@TovarischMakarov many gay man of the era had failed romances with women (wonder why) and most married women, as was the societal expectation and norm. Homosexual acts were not only illegal but if charged your life was over. Alan Turing the man who lead the enigma code breakers and the father of modern computing was chemically castrated even after saving hundreds / thousands of lives. Gay men that survived nazi concentration camps were not freed, instead the allied forces kept them prisoners. It seems impossible to understand or see the lives of gay men of this era through a modern lense without feeling the burden of the day. One might even theorize this is why he drank so much even before the horrors of war and post traumatic stress syndrome took hold.
@TovarischMakarov10 ай бұрын
@@MikeWilsonn So you proceed to make random historical figures gay just to appease a minor portion of the viewers then? There is no evidence that paddy had any homosexual tendencies. The ones claiming so and providing the only „proof“ of how he treated his comrades fail that - suprise suprise - you looking after your brethren in arms is a basic phenomenon in comradery
