I had the good fortune of seeing this palace about five years back. Almost entire building is wooden, though there is some masonry works. The floor shines even today, after cuple of hundred years use. Interestingly, it is in a fort, which also has its own agricultural fields and water sources. Though the architecture is traditional, some portions are built after europen architectural style, perhaps to accommodate the visiting British officials.

My place is just 1.5 km from the palace. I have been to the palace many times but never seen the beauty of it in the way it is shown here. Of course, the architecture and the minute wooden carvings is quite remarkable even with the naked eye. The flooring is really beautiful and shines better than marble. It feels very cool to touch and inside, the palace is heat/weather proof. If it is hot outside, you will feel a very cool breeze inside. Good to see the aerial view of the palace. Looks like they removed some touristy stuff like the direction boards, restriction ropes etc before making this video. Some areas like the Puja room with intricate paintings is inaccessible to the general public. There is a museum beside the palace where they have displayed some artefacts from the palace separately.

The Chinese probably had little to no influence on the architecture. Low Sloping roofs with gables is a common feature in many places. It's a common structure in South Indian houses.

It could be the other way round. Along with Buddhism that travelled from India to China, and Martial Arts, the architectural styles could have traveled to China and then mingled with existing Chinese style. Emperor Ashoka's Hall too had wooden floor and roof (Kumhrar, Patna).

You are totally wrong. I have had the privilege of teavellung extensively in China including parts normally alnot allowed to foreigners. What we associate today with Chinese architecture with those unique roofs are relatively recent meaning 10 century. Go to the amazing Chinese National Museum in Shanghai ( city center) and each floor has exhibits in chronological order. They start by saying the original Chinese architecture and structure was based on Hindu temple architecture from India and remained so for 1500 years. There are plenty of exhibits and it is amazing they say that inspite of Chinese govt propaganda. Then came Nepalese architecture which also was based on Hindu Indian architecture ( go see in Nepal) but around 5 century started differentiating from both south and North Indian architecture. This was the first sloping roof firmar that went to China via buddhism and then around 10th century evolved to what today is called Chinese architecture. Three years ago I did a 5 day river cruise ( last too three gorges dam) and one day one stop was at an ancient rock temple to the God's of Wealth. I thought I was in one of those Belur temples. It was eerily similar the only substitute of elephants in carvings by dragons. Similarly I have seen South Indian Hindu architecture based ancient temples in Lanta islands off Hong Kong. No they were not built by Indians but by Chinese around a thousand years ago.

If we leave it it will collapse in near future. Visited many palaces /heritage buildings/museums in different countries. They maintain well.we wil be surprised. Why dont we do proper maintenance with expert engineers visiting the place. Want to post photos which i have taken. Request you &Gvt of kerala to do needful urgently.
