When I was a med student performing a prostate exam, I told the patient "Okay, you're going to feel one hand on your shoulder followed by some pressure in your rectum" and without missing a beat the patient said "That's fine, as long as I don't feel TWO hands on my shoulders and then pressure in my rectum" 🤣

Just so you guys know. You cant test for prostate cancer by taking a dump in a box. A fecal occult blood test ( FOBT for short) is a screening test for Colorectal Cancer, not prostate cancer A doctor usually suspects prostate cancer based on 1) Symptoms ( like weight loss/ loss of appetite/ night sweats, gross hematuria( which is blood in your pee) ) 2) Examination ( Thats where the prostate exam comes in). And yes there are other ways to do it, including the use of an ultrasound, although most urologists just do both 3) Blood tests ( PSA or prostate sensitive antigen is elevated in prostate cancer. However, because PSA can be raised in certain benign conditions such as BPH ( Benign prostate hyperplasia ) , as well as the fact that the majority of prostate cancers are not very aggressive ( most people with prostate cancer die from non prostate cancer related reasons) , screening men with PSA is controversial as it could lead to many unnecessary investigations/tests/procedures/ anxiety. However, PSA remains a valuable tool for tracking the response to Prostate cancer therapy The last thing I want to say is that Akaash asking men to go for prostate checks, while hilarious, is not good medical advice. There is no guideline that recommends a digital rectal exam(DRE) for Prostate cancer screening for asymptomatic males because of its poor sensitivity ( IE its not accurate OR cost effective) . You should only do a DRE if your doctor recommends it, and they will usually perform the exam if there is a good reason to do so.

For those interested in the “Boards” for medical students, Board Step 1 determined what the maximum speciality you could get into. Family medicine and peds are on the lower end sadly and Neurosurgery,Derm, Plastics are considered the top scorers. Step1 has became P/F after 40+ years and now Step 2 will determine your pathway. Then you take Step 3 during training. Then you take board Certification again. And then another if you specialize. Then we have ppl who go to online schooling for one year and wants to do Derm and miss your skin cancer. ^^
