Sherri Hill left the chat!!! Hahaha. I specially agree with the first gown and the beaded rhinestone bustier/satin ballgown combo. Overskirts definitely need to be retired, its been five freaking years! Also to add...capes and fringe!!! I cant with the capes and fringe dresses anymore...looking at you Sherri Hill!!! Do make a video about which gowns or trends you think would be the next "it" pageant gowns.

I think future queens should stop limiting themself to three major prom gowns designers, considering that they’re not as cheap so why not promote local and independent designers for more diversity and personal style in order to stand out , a good gown could make you or break you but it’s always nice and refreshing to see something new on stage rather than playing safe.

I know what you mean. These gowns are usually for youth pageants (18 yrs and under) They're less expensive than a custom gown which is why young contestants wear them.

So happy Miss South Africa 🇿🇦 is really innovative with their dresses, and they're always customised so well for each girl (alhough, Tamryn's runner up dress in 2018 could have been better IMO.) PS Natashe actually rocks a green dress; goes really well with her jet-black hair and warm, inviting green eyes. I haven't seen it at MU (although I wouldn't really know :) I really hope Natasha rocks another (but definitely a better and more simple sleek) structured emerald or black gown at MU this year, it's... rare and unique, like her.

I agree regarding your analysis of these dresses. When dresses get firmly categorized you know you’re going in the wrong direction. The term, “pageant dress”, for example, is almost the kiss of death if you’re looking for an evening gown. It’s unfortunate Sherri Hill has gotten the lock on the gowns worn by Miss USA contestants. Not to say her gowns aren’t lovely...many of them are, but IMO, designers should simply design a fashion forward evening gown, not a “pageant” gown. When you’re competing, the whole point of competition is to stand out among the other contestants. I’m hoping the current Miss USA will have good support from her handlers with respect to securing her a stellar competition and travel wardrobe. Countries other than the US have greater support and many of the gowns the contestants of some of these other countries provide their title holders with designer gowns. In order for the US to continue to be competitive they will have to step up the sophistication. I agree, it’s time to retire the cutesy, girl-next-door competition gowns and go for high fashion sophistication.
@DaniWalker3 жыл бұрын
I feel like the reason that US queens don't get a ton of support from designers is because the best brands in the US are usually a foreign couture brand. Also, some of the biggest stars in the world live in the US, so designers are focused on dressing them for the oscars, grammys, etc, instead of dressing Miss USA for Miss Universe. I see smaller gown designers, that create incredible gowns, in other countries that usually support pageant contestants.
@mimzyLassiter3 жыл бұрын
@@DaniWalker I completely agree. But Miss USA, or the organization for Miss USA, could hire a top designer to design a one of a kind dress for Miss USA. I understand this won’t come cheap but it can still be glamorous without being couture. Problem is, these pageants, though once a big deal in the USA have lost much of that appeal and to me, it’s a missed opportunity. I believe it has lost much appeal because we’ve removed the glamour. There are, to me, many opportunities to hype Miss USA to its former glory. I understand it’s expensive. I’m a former pageant girl from years ago. I understand the need for sponsors to offset the costs associated with competing. Forgive my ignorance but I’m curious as to what the organization in the US is doing to hype Miss USA. Miss USA seems to have a lesser presence on social media, another missed opportunity. I miss the glamour of it. I’d love to see how Miss USA and other contestants for the upcoming Miss Universe pageant are preparing for the pageant. (I.e fitness, grooming, gown/travel/competition wardrobe shopping/consultations, etc.). There needs to be effort to keep up and/or promote interest. We’ve been lucky. Miss USA in the recent past years our contestants have placed. We need another win. The recent and first USA win for Miss World had a wonderful glamorous, high fashion appeal. That is what is going to give Miss USA the win in the future. Other countries, such as the Asian countries and others are starting to surpass our once enviable competitive past. We need to step it up. IMO.

Wait I’m confused, I have always thought it’s not the dress or how the dress looks the judges aren’t judging the dress the judges are judging the person inside the dress and how they carry themselves. Can you please clarify?
@hollysealover3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the system. Some systems have an "attire" score where they literally judge what you're wearing. In those systems, it matters. Also, even if they aren't judging a gown directly, its always there. There are a few dresses I've seen SO many times that when someone steps out in it, I mentally groan. Not only have I seen it so much that it kinda loses its effect, but I also can't help but think of all the other people I've seen it on. When you're on stage it is supposed to be your moment! Its pretty hard for that moment to truly be yours if I'm thinking of someone else! Hopefully this makes sense!
@DaniWalker3 жыл бұрын
They're judging the contestant but if you wear a gown that doesn't compliment you then it will affect your score. A gown can make you look age inappropriate too, and that is something that will affect your score. A well fit and current gown style makes you look better than wearing a poorly fitted one.
@goldeneagle23942 жыл бұрын
I think a girl should be judge on her overall look and not about the dress. You either wear the dress, or the dress is going to wear you. Sometimes a dress will look great in pictures and on a manequin, but you have to remember that different girls will have different body types. And depending on the cut and color, you'll either look great in it or not.
