Someone told me once, “what you think about, you talk about, and what you talk about, you bring about.” I can see how thinking and talking talking about peace and safety will surely reap pleasant results, as opposed to thinking and talking about the opposite! Thank you, Dan, for your kind reminders!

Absolutely does. Your symptoms are just coming from a brain perceiving danger. Thus, the solution of teaching the brain we are safe will work for you too.

Hi Dan. Could you do a video specifically about “long covid”? I know you have a couple of success stories but lots of people could benefit from knowing that LC is TMS and to treat it the same way. Because it’s such a “new” condition, the fear is very strong around this disease.

@@PainFreeYou Dan, while I very much believe what you say, that there’s no downside to telling your brain it’s safe and in calming the nervous system, I would reconsider continuing to share your dated videos on long COVID. You mention giving ourselves “accurate information”; I would suggest you give yourself the same around LC, which is now known biologically to be a different disease from the original COVID infection. One study from Harvard that discusses anxiety and depression being linked to LC is correlation, not necessarily causation. I suggest looking into the research of Akiko Iwasaki from Yale, Danny Altmann from Imperial College of London, Resia Pretorius from South Africa, and the Patient-Led Research Collaborative. There is very real, observable physical damage to mitochondria, blood vessels, and organs as well as immune dysfunction. It’s dangerous to let folks think that hundreds of millions of people globally are causing their symptoms out of ramped up fear and anxiety. Because when doctors told me I was fine a few years ago (because they didn’t know better yet and their egos wouldn’t allow them to admit that), it caused me to try to live the way I used to live, and I made my condition much worse. There is a role here for TMS or PDP, but it is simply not the answer to everything when it comes to long COVID.

I agree completely. Teaching the brain we are safe when we have scary symptoms, and a history of catastrophizIng, is a heavy lift, which is why your videos are so helpful. Constant reminders that we’re safe are the name of the game, no matter what shows up.

Got out today, okish, heading home and there's a big spike again(evidence) . 🙄 Frustrating but this video definitely helping me reframe it all. Thanks. The way to influence it is to KNOW when a flare happens that the absolute best response is to jump right to reinforcing the FACT that you are safe, that your body is okay and stress does NOT need to cause symptom. It's all driven by the four foundations and safety. My fast start playlist is a great set of videos to review often to drill this stuff in. kzbin.info/aero/PLRJmnkn2kTTIl4frNvmpenr49xcTmVl2H

Dan, your genius lies in second guessing the questions/doubts that anyone embarking on this tough journey confronts. I have two questions: - do you think stuff like CBT, meditation etc help at all? and - because there's no dedicated TMS/Mind-body therapist or team in my country (India) that I know of, can I go it alone (as long as I am convinced that it works)?

Dan has said as long as your not using "treatments" to "fix" ( you're not broken) if meditation helps you relax all good. Obviously I'm not a medic.

CBT and meditation are very helpful. Catching your fear thoughts and replacing them with thoughts of safety are CBT in action. Anything that helps calm the nervous system is helpful. I use music a lot to soothe me also. Yoga is great too!

Dan, isn’t reframing our thoughts to safety a form of neural retraining? And doesn’t meditation and other mindfulness practices help us get into a physical and mental place of safety?
@PainFreeYou
@PainFreeYou 11 ай бұрын
When we call things neural retraining - I think that makes the whole thing sound both physical and more complicated. The brain knows what to do with wiring if we give it the right messages consistently. Safety. And if you like mindfulness practices, wonderful. I don't speak about mindfulness meditation or other practices like that. I focus on safety.

How about having a lack of electrolytes that also cause muscle tension and pains? People on high sugar diets have issues and also some who switch to a more keto/carnivore diet.

Not likely a primary cause of pain for the hundreds of millions with chronic pain. There are plenty who increased electrolytes and got no benefit. I don't think this is the issue.
