FIRST LOOK: New FPV wing from SonicModell - the AR Wing PRO!

A huge thank you for the feedback on this one. It's great to see so many getting as excited as I am about it. Thanks for the feedback and support. This has been a model that has gone through lots of tweaks and feels like it was a long time coming. Using the community to define a 'wish list' for a developing product is not unique but still a rare occurrence. I'd like to see this happen more so we end up with things we want, not just things that manufacturers want to sell us. I'm pleased to see products like the MenaceRC AREOPOD wing FPV antenna and this new AR Wing PRO come from grown up engagement and conversations. Well done Sonicmodell and thanks for listening and delivering! Thanks to all of you with suggestions of things you'd like to change. There is no such thing as a perfect model that fits every pilots needs; price, size, colour, weight, capabilities and many other factors define what is 'perfect' for any one pilot but I think that for most of us who fly wings FPV and want more for our money and easier builds/more flying this should fit the bill. Maybe if they sell enough of this we will get another chance to help them design the PRO II?! ;) I will be shooting a maiden video in the coming week (hopefully) without a flight controller and basic FPV to see how she goes so stay tuned! Right, I have two. Beat the heck out of first one my first two years flying fpv. It's held together with glue but still flies. My 2nd is a mid range inav setup that's never been wrecked. Before i get another wing in going to get MFD crooswind!

congrats on the world exclusive, and wow this wing looks great, well thought out, and guess who has been wanting a 1000mm wing for ages and one that will take a 3000mah 4s with ease, love the motor mount set up, the prop is pushed out into clean air so it will be quieter and more efficient, i used to dislike the AR900 but after i got the 3rd one it really grew on me, yes i can see me getting this new version for sure, Lee thanks for giving Sonic the input

Hey Julian, nice spot ;) The main noise I get on things like the Mini and Nano Drak I have here is the proximity of the prop to the rear of the model. This should make the airflow cleaner for the prop to bite into and reduce noise and increase efficiency (I hope) maiden should help me see that..

Hi Mr. P SOLD ! Thanks for the video I will be ordering it as soon as possible. I have a AR Wing and I am not the best when it comes to flying them. I just started flying them last year and I have learned a lot, my hardest part was takeoffs I have had 2 back surgeries and throwing them in the air was hard to do. So I made a finger grips underneath the fuselage and I have been having no problems but I seen your last video on auto launch and I can't wait to try it, but I first want to watch it again and make sure I do not mess it up and do a noise dive. I have lost 3 different action cameras that way. I just use them for paper weight in the noise now. I love the way it was designed to keep the components in the fuselage and the pins for the servos, also the transmitter bay I have a AKK DOMINATOR for long range and I use a rc car esc fan to keep it cool. I just don't know if I should get the kit and have a new motor, esc version and use my Maytek F405 or the kit and use the Maytek F411 se and the Electronics from my old one. Thanks again for the video of this new wing.

Looks like a great step forward although a couple of things bother me. The spar needs to be a lot longer. Looks like it only enters the wing by a couple of inches and in doing so will probably allow pretty bad wing flex. Even the original ar wing had excessive wing flex under load and needed additional carbon strips in the leading and trailing edges.

Man look at all that internal space! At the moment I have a AR900 with a pixhawk cube (with breakout board), power module and telemetry module, it's a really tight fit.

This is incredibly well thought out. I usually build epp wings (RitewingRC, Defiant, VAS etc) but this looks great! I do wish it were maybe 500mm bigger, but I will definitely pick one up for an iNav+DJI setup.

Wow, I've got to have one; it truly looks 'next generation'. I got the DJI FPV for father's day and since then have been trying to transition from old school built up balsa with nitro to FPV with flight computer with induction motors. I started with the macro Drak and although it is not more than I can chew, I must confess, am still chewing. Inav, Matek, Frsky, kv + voltage = rmp, amps * volts = watts, manual / acro / angle / horizon / rth / launch / loiter... It has been a world wind and have learned a tremendous amount and much of it from you, thank you! I have yet to dive into FPV as I have not mastered RTH. I see light at the end of the tunnel but it is not growing any brighter. I believe with this SonicModell AR Pro I will finally see the light of day.

Love it!!! Huge amounts of electronics space that gives you almost any option on mounting them. Really like the quick connections in the wings, although I wonder if someone makes a 9pin? Here in the USA a 1M wing is about the perfect balance between capability and simply where you can fly it . A huge model is great and offers all sorts of possibilities . Problem is where do you fly it and what sort of attention do you attract . Clubs are disappearing here and we've got all sorts of new drone regulations on the way . WIth all the talk of requiring "transponders" and other regulatory plans , having more room to put electronics will only help in the future . Thanks again Lee

Well Lee you talked me into it ( didn't take much ) it's on order now, just trying to choose what prefinals to go with it, cross fire for the receiver, but need to choose a fpv camera and transmitter (analogue ) for it :) with add zohd co pilot . :)

I have just added to the pre-order list as I am a fan of the ar wing 900. I will be interested in how these will be launched. Currently I launch the ar wing 900 by griping the landing skids but this does not look possible on the new ar wing. I supppose I'll have to get used to a wing throw launch method.

Another great review Lee, thank you. Something that I’d like to see is a secure means to launch these things. I’ve had a few launch crashes doing ‘discus throws’ and inverting on take-off and I’ve even gone to the effort of fitting wooden ‘skids’ on a caipirinha to grip and allow me to ‘dart throw’ but that was a bit scary with a 10” carbon prop. I guess some simple finger-holes would be ideal, somewhere on the CoG so you get a solid feel and balance and can easily launch. Before anyone mentions ‘launch-mode’ which is something I may need to revisit, I’ve never really been a fan of it and like to control my own manual launches. As for the way TBS recommend you launch the Caipi2 this seems downright dangerous. I’d be very keen to watch your take on hand-launching wings. I travel to the flying field by bike, so this AR looks brilliant because of the way it packs down. If I can nail launching it, it might just be the perfect wing for me. Thanks again.

VERY Horten shaped & a very slick/sleek looking shape..... The only thing I DON'T like it that the off-set camera pod is not removable- not all of us like an off-set camera feed & it would spoil the the design having to hack it off to try & tidy up the leading edge.... There's one other gripe I have & I wouldn't know if this wing suffers from it or not until Ive seen a few clips from different folks, & that would be what I call the AR woggle & bounce that Ive notice the others in the AR family suffer in a LOT of clips Ive seen... So much so that Ive never owned an AR & instead have gone for the 635 Dart- I hope this one breaks that 'tradition'! Thank you again for your time Painless!

That looks really nice with all those compartments for electronics. I would swap the motor for a 35xx one with a large folding prop and add some locking mechanism for the wings. I don't trust wings that hold in place just by friction.

Hello, i dont know how old your son but im a teenager too, im 16 and i bought my first model last year, it is volantex phoenix 2400. It was big stable and good looking, i used it for los for one year and now im using it as a fpv long range platform. Its easy to fly, it cant stall and also it has a plastic fuselage so you can't break it with hard landings. I think it can be a good beginner plane but it needs a lot of space to land and transportation is a big problem. But also it is pretty expensive for a beginner model and wings can damage a lot because they are very low to ground. If you want something more durable and cheap you can consider reptile s800, it is one of the strongest models but it is not stable, always wobbling side to side. Its good for learning but soon your son will need a better model. You can (should) also ask him what he wants and what kind of flying style he likes.

Hey there! If they are learning to fly fixed wing then a wing isn't the best place to start but if they have a little experience then something that is a little larger, cheap, is forgiving and flies well the AR Wing is one of my top picks. Thank you for bringing us this teaser! I love my AR Wing, and I love everything about this new model except for one important feature- launch grips! I toss my AR Wing overhand by holding onto the center launch rails and have loved this method as its reliable and easy. I hate side arm launching wings and I hate throwing them up behind my head even more. I'm a little disappointed seeing how smooth the underbelly is, but all in the name of performance I guess. Curious to see if anything can be done to add center body grip features.

I’ve got their current AR900 Wing, really great flyer... This one looks even better, very sleek & well thought out design indeed, really impressed with this first sneak-peak of it, thanks! 👍🏻 I like that they’ve moved the prop much further back from the trailing edge also, should make it a lot less anti-social ripping it around!.. Perfect size increase too, moving it up to exactly 1M ... I wondered when Sonicmodell would be bringing out a new updated model/version. Seriously can’t wait to get myself one of these now!! 😁

Reminds me of a mini Skywalker X-8. It is a very good looking wing, but the lack of some grab points at the bottom of the fuse will make it getting airborne interesting.... Wondering if it will waggle as well (no vertical stabs) Suspect cruise speeds around 50km/h, 75 sounds too much for that wing area!
